@FGPackers Yeah, that's not something I'm ever going to have to worry about... 😉

Currently at something like 960. Improving, though. I was in the low 900s for a few days.

Remind yourself that overconfidence is a slow and insidious killer.

@Operative2-0 The point is, it's not controversial. Everything he's getting at is completely unobjectionable. But his style of delivery depends so utterly on the idea of 'waging into controversy' and 'speaking out against malevolent forces' that - at least in this case - he has to actually invent an enemy simply for the sake of 'vanquishing' it. Which is how Alex somehow ends up getting cast as a poster-boy in the 'war on accessibility', despite not holding any opposing views at all. He's so dependant on someone to argue against, that he's completely miscast someone who largely agrees with him just for the sake of having an opponent.

It just reminds me of various underhand tactics used by Boris Johnson in arguing against the EU, where he'd fabricate rules and regulations imposed by the Union, and then argue that they were stupid - which they were. For example, that rules existed dictating the 'bendiness' of bananas that could be sold. The narrative would then shift onto discussing the stupidity of said rule, not whether the rule actually existed in the first place.

It doesn't matter whether your underlying point is correct (as it very much is in this case); it's dishonest to heavily manipulate, make up, or miscast the opposing side of the argument to make yourself sound better. Some amount of this is inevitable, but there's a line crossed when the person you're holding up as the epitome of 'wrongness' probably actually agrees with you.

Well, today the game actually put me up against a bunch of people close to my VR (of around 2500) instead of giving me a room full of mostly new and/or bad players. Had a much harder time as a result. Still, I'm making steady progress toward that magic 3000 mark.

And y'know, although I've complained that I can't choose to play 200cc all the time, I take a somewhat sadistic pleasure in the fact that other people are now forced to do so some of the time. I mean, it annoys me to see otherwise respectable players complain that 200cc is too hard. It's time y'all learned to deal with it.

Does anyone know of any Mario Kart tournaments, UK or international?
If they do, is anyone interested in forming a team for such events?

Wow, I have played this game for years and have only just learned that a super horn blast can parry blue shells! I now have a new shield item to covet!

I never drive faster than I can see. Besides, it's all in the reflexes.

I wish they included in the player stats things like amount of times you've been hit by the blue shell, how many time you've successfully hit someone with a normal shell etc. I'd rather know that than things like the amount of times you've drifted.

Urgh, awful lag in battle mode today. I had a Shine Thief match where the shine just teleported around and couldn't be picked up, and a Bob-omb Blast match where I couldn't hit anyone no matter how thoroughly they were enveloped in my explosion. My connection is fine - I tested it repeatedly - and I haven't seen this degree of lag in races (although it's less of a problem there anyway). Since I haven't played that many ranked battles, I'm gonna have to put the blame on low-ranked players who are likely to give up before long because their connections are so terrible. I imagine once your VR is high enough you escape this mess, but getting there may be painful.

On the bright side, today I took a screenshot so cool I'm using it for a new avatar.

So I caved in and downloaded this last night. Looks stunning on the Switch's screen! The HD Rumble use is great.

Also, THANK YOU NINTENDO. You made 4 races the default setting for local multiplayer instead of 3! That was really annoying on the original.

Finally bought this, but is it just me or is online battles just annoying mainly because of the random selection of what type it is?

Sorry, but all the new types of battle are just pants!

Why can't you select the type you want to play? (balloon battles only for me)

Anyone else think this?

I AM ERROR

@Bunkerneath I'm fine with different battle types but would like to be able to play 200cc only in races. At least you can play tournaments or with friends if you really want to set your own rules.

I only just realized that directional inputs change the types of tricks you do. Other than that there seems to be some that only trigger at full speed and some that only happen when you're going slow. Has everyone else known this forever? I haven't seen it get talked about at all since 2014.

Don't hate me because I'm bnahabulous.

Zyrac

@Haru17 I do directional tricks all the time. Sometimes just because, but when there's a corner after the jump I'll trick in the direction of the turn and keep holding the button to drift as soon as I land. I'm not sure whether it genuinely helps but I like doing it at least. I think a forward or back trick changes your trajectory a little but I'm not sure.

@Zyrac It felt like one of the flips dropped you faster, but I'm not sure. Left and right tricks definitely change the way you move, since they're easiest if you steer into the jump.

@Haru17 Directional tricks? News to me.

You guys had me at blood and semen.

What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?

Forward flips launch you further, backflips launch you higher, and 360s steer you in the direction of the spin. Their effect was more pronounced in Wii, but even so you'll often want to stick to non-directional tricks to keep your racing line, or even not trick at all during 200c if a turn is very close.

Alone, a force. Together, a force of nature.
