@Marioman2020 I like you're idea of GTA Mario Kart. You can have hoes dressed as Princess Peach, drug dealing mini game were Mario snorts power ups and "By The Book" missions where Bowser is mean to people! ;p

Ok. No. You have taken my Family-Friendly-Nintendo Switch- E-For-Everyone game and turned it into an Xbox T rated game. I prefer my option. sort of like an open-world balloon battle.

@Marioman2020 You're the one that brought up GTA, there's plenty of other open world games to have mentioned ;p

Just imagine the sales the controvesary will create!

Sorry, I don't know much about GTA, just using the open-world format as a base. Didn't mean to annoy you.

@Anti-Matter or anyone, do you know if Cars 2 The Video Game is better than Cars 3 Driven To Win? I've only played some of Cars 3.

I assume the easiest angle to improving MK would be to make it like Smash Bros. Present it as a celebration of all things video games. Lots and lots of cameo dlc characters that normally wouldn't be associated with kart racing. Sephiroth kart and dedicated track, Solid Snake kart and dedicated track, Rayman kart and dedicated track, etc.

@Magician I don't think I would like that idea, honestly. I'm fine with some cameos from other Nintendo games, but the other characters you've mentioned - especially Sephiroth and Solid Snake - would be out of place in Mario Kart. It's a family-friendly game, after all.

1. More non-mario locations (like in the MK8 DLC). I really wanna see some Xenoblade locations used for tracks.

2. A proper campaign mode. Something like they had back in Diddy Kong Racing. They had a similar kind of thing in Sonic All Stars Racing too.

It's dangerous to go alone! Stay at home.

@Marioman2020 New console content for the Switch! I know that's bold idea. More tracks would be nice. I put a lot of time into mk8, but I ended up putting more hours into Crash Team Racing because of their monthly themed events where they added new tracks, karts, characters, skins that came with those events. The Switch console not getting it's own Mario Kart, or new content, seems insane at this point.

Mario Kart 8 needs a dedicated no-weapons online race mode. I'm tired of opening/joining a list no-weapons community tournaments only to find them empty. There's no way to tell if they ACTUALLY have players I can join. Its insanity that the tournament communities have now way to see if they have players. Rocket League shows how many players are active in every online mode.

Yeah, that would be cool. The next MK should be updated like AC or Tour. Also have more characters from Mario and other franchises and skins.

They should just do a BMX XXX version of Mario Kart with Peach and Rosalina racing around dirt tracks in bikinis - and with an optional Wet Tshirt contest mini game for a bit of FanService.

Failing that I agree with Anti and they should do a Modnation inspired Mii racer (drop the Mario theming) where you can make your own tracks and fully customise your characters.

Start on 50cc and go to faster cc's as you get better. When starting out, don't do mirror because it will mess with your muscle memory

If you spoil a game i will find you.

I'm sure what I'm about to say is 1. A well-known fact, and 2. Sounds like a petty complaint.

But, come next game, Nintendo needs to do some fat-trimming of the roster. Lets ignore Deluxe for now and look at the original on Wii U. Prior to the DLC, the only new characters that were added to the game were the seven Koopalings, Baby Rosalina, and Pink Gold Peach. While I can somewhat understand why Nintendo added the Koopalings (they're easy to design for the game, you get seven characters, and seeing them playable was admittedly pretty cool), but Baby Rosalina and Pink Gold Peach are completely pointless additions that were only done because all Nintendo needed to do was to alter preexisting models to make them. It didn't help that the reveals between the Koopalings and the other two was a fairly long wait. And come release, the roster was shockingly barren. Donkey Kong was the lone Kong. Series staples like King Boo, Dry Bones, Bowser Jr., and Birdo were nowhere to be seen, yet they brought Metal Mario back (for the same reason they added B Rosalina and PG Peach, I'm sure.) DLC somewhat remedied this by bringing back Dry Bowser, and adding non-Mario characters for some diversity, and I don't think Tanooki Mario and Cat Peach are the worst things in the world, but they could have done better.

Then 8 Deluxe came out. And this helped the roster a fair amount. They brought back Dry Bones, Bowser Jr., and King Boo, and added Inklings (which I still love). But there was still no Birdo. Donkey Kong was still alone, much to the dismay of many a Mario Kart Wii player, I'm sure, including me. And when you look at the roster, I still see at least a third of the roster we could cut. We do not need 5 babies, let alone 7 Koopalings. We also have 4 versions of both Mario and Peach! And if you count the baby versions, jack that up to 5.

Look at Mario Kart Wii. At launch, it had the largest roster of characters, and to do this day, I'd argue it has the most complete roster of characters in the series. It doesn't rely on clone characters to fill out a roster. If nothing else, Nintendo, if you can give Mario Kart Tour the gigantic roster it has, can you at least construct a more fitting roster for 9?

Also, bring back Mission Mode. I miss Mission Mode...

@Bolt_Strike I feel compelled to respond to lists like this with my own opinions.

1. Great idea. So coins can have more meaning. Tour removed the 10 coin limit, which I welcomed, because coins weren't useless once I hit the cap. And having a shop would let us buy the things we want. The only cause for pause I would think of is that this potentially could open the way for microtransactions. Now, I don't think Nintendo would do this, but this happened to games like CTR. Still, this would be a great idea, since I hate getting a random part I don't like.

2. YES. The same goes for T and R/T tracks, in my eyes. Reverse tracks are a no brainer for Mario Kart.

3. I'd support this for the sole fact that I've never played Double Dash. And it looks like a ton of fun.

4. Having a hub world is what makes both Diddy Kong Racing and CTR so fun in their Adventure modes. The maps are full of things to do, and you really feel a sense of progression. They even have boss races and bonus minigames.

5. That would take a lot of work, but man, that'd rock.

@GigaMermaid are reverse tracks really a no brainer for Mario Kart though? Many tracks (including some of the very best) are carefully designed around long jumps downhill to give you lots of speed on the run up and lots of air time in the jump. To go through the track backwards (even if you add a mechanism to reverse the jump) is less exhilarating - suddenly you make a jump and then you’re driving up a steep incline...

Also visually the tracks are designed to show you a particular vista at a particular time. They aren’t designed to be seen from a reverse angle.

I think some of the other ideas are also antithetical to the Mario Kart experience. I love the fact that there’s no “shop” and the random nature of kart pieces (that have negligible impact on the game) is an extension of the party atmosphere of the game. The fun of the game is enough of a hook that people spend hundreds of hours playing it. It doesn’t need artificial grind.

Honestly, if we're not gonna get a licensed Diddy Kong Racing port or remaster, the next Mario Kart should be a shameless clone lol

And yes, trim the roster. None of this rose gold nonsense or different colors of the same character. And get back to just Mario characters.

@rallydefault a month or two ago I would have agreed about slight variations racers being unneeded but then I saw Oktoberfest Luigi in Mario Kart Tour and I now I demand it in the proper games!

lol yea, that is pretty awesome. Well, they need to implement a costume system rather than actual different characters like in the case of the rose gold characters.

rallydefault

Bolt_Strike

@StuTwo That is true, but they make the tracks more exciting by adding speed boosters and ramps to retain the sense of exhiliration.

If anything the random coin system is more of a grind, because it forces you to rack up large coin totals until the game decides to give you the one you want. With a shop system you can just earn enough to buy it and go, and you'll spend significantly less coins if you only want certain parts.

Really the mechanics stemming from the "party" atmosphere of the game is the series' biggest flaw. Not everyone wants the game to be a giant roulette wheel. Some people want to compete with each other based on skill. Some people just want to have fun with their favorite characters, tracks, and karts. The random nature of the game impedes that. Shoving that down everyone's throat makes the game less universally appealing.

All the different characters and skins would be a goldmine for Nintendo....hopefully I could have some self restraint.... I would definitely buy a few.
