What’s the mandatory download for this game again even with the physical version?

Think it's like 12gb? The full game is 27gb and I imagine 14-15gb is on the cart.

I totally hear you, and feel your frustration. It sucks, I know. I think what helped me accept it is taking a step back, and remembering why I started playing video games in the first place. When I first started playing I didn't care what was on a disc or off a disc or on a cart, I just wanted to enjoy great games. And when I took a step back and looked at the situation, I figured hey, it's great games on a portable console. Enjoy it for what it is and just be glad I actually get a cartridge and case for my shelf. I'll back up all my games on a 1TB microSD card when the generation is over. Just in case.

It still bothers me, and if I thought we could make a difference I might consider holding off. But after much thought I concluded by holding off we will only drive third-party support away and won't have any games at all. And at the end of the day having these games on Switch both digitally and on cart with downloads, is still far better than not having them at all. So, I kind of made peace with it.

I also started buying all the top games digitally (in addition to physical) which kind of makes me feel better about the whole thing.

@QwertyQwerty i just think you're being weird.. this game is what, 6 years old? You think they're going to have trouble getting a game like this to run and look good? A port as old as this i would hardly be worried about anything except if i would like the game or not and it sounded like you already like it.

I pre-purchased and have downloaded the game already... living in Malaysia we don’t have EB games and what not... I tried to get Doom and I’m still waiting for the shops to get stock... so I’ll be getting digital games more often for the ones I want to play on release... I have a 32fb and 64gb SD card, but I’m saving for a bigger one so I can have all my games on one card. I hear you can’t transfer data and games between SD cards on the Switch tho, you have to download everything again which kind of sucks and is a huge waste of time.

You only have to download once. Then you can swap cards whenever you want. NintendoLife even did an article about it.

@JaxonH you can swap cards whenever, but I f you click on the game tile I heard it has to re download to the new card... I haven’t tried yet so maybe someone who has tried can confirm.

You only have to download update data if you haven't yet don't so. If the game is completely up-to-date then it will launch. If any necessary data was stored on the SD whatsoever it will require it to be downloaded.

My guess is somebody tried swapping SD and tried launching games and it said you need to do a download, and they didn't realize why it was saying that. I can personally attest to this because I have two SD cards and I've swapped them. When I got my 400gb I saved my 256gb. In fact I just checked again right now just to be sure before responding to you. There were a few games that wouldn't launch but that was because they had updates since the last time I had put this card in, and I'm guessing my save data was on the newer version. Other games launched perfectly fine because there has been no updates

Actually, let me dive into this further. Snake Pass is launching fine but Shantae is not. I don't get it.

What I think is going on, is you can't have the same game on both SD cards. See I've got duplicates of my games on this old card and when I launch to them on the old card and then put in my new card again it does in fact require a download of some sort. So I think the solution is not to have duplicate games. If you have one set of games on one card and another set of games on another card and you never mix and match then you will never need a download.

I'm 99% sure that's what's going on and that's why the person got confused because I launched Shante on the old card and now it's not launching on the new one. But other games that I didn't launch are launching fine. And other games I haven't played since swapping SD launched fine. So yeah I think that's what's going on

Also, if you have a game on internal memory, and swap cards and the game in installed on the card you put in, there will be a conflict and the game will be removed from internal memory if you launch it.

Then when you swap cards again, the game will be gone and it will say you need to download the entire game again. So basically it all comes down to not having duplicate software. I'm actually kind of glad you brought this to my attention so that I can clean up my old SD and not have conflicts. And it's good to get some clarification because you're not the first person who brought this up.

Mine still hasn’t dispatched from Amazon, normally they dispatch it two days before, I swear if it doesn’t come tomorrow when I have a day off I’ll be raging.

My copy shipped out already too. Friday or Saturday. Should be here today, tomorrow at the latest

I can't wait to play this! While the driving looked ok I'm sure we aren't getting the best video quality from this. Dialog looks excellent!

Yep, I'm looking forward to playing it too but I'm going to wait until next month or into the new year before purchasing it. That's the sensible thing for me to do. I currently have the biggest backlog I've ever had by some margin. January will hopefully be catch up month.

Still just says dispatching today. I have a feeling it’s not going to come tomorrow. Never had a late delivery from Amazon UK before, but they have messed up a lot lately, like people not receiving their Xbox One X on time.

@Hughesy So fun fact with Amazon. My copy of Sonic Forces was late. Said exactly the same, dispatch soon, arriving tomorrow.

There was a payment issue. They dont tell you of this until after midnight on the launch day. Id check your bank balance to be sure, but Amazon lately has been bad with Nintendo stuff on time.

@JaxonH I don’t think you can use a pc and copy from one SD to another either because of copyrights. Which is what I wanted to do. One thing I just noticed, I have all my games so far on my 32gb card, and my 62gb I got for LA Noire. I turned it off and inserted the new card, which started a system update, then I started downloading. When I look at my game tiles, they all have icons above them, one showing a solid cartridge, because Doom was in my switch, Zelda showed an outline of a cartridge because I own it but it wasn’t in the Switch, and then there were all of my other games with a cloud above them. So I figure it means I have to download them onto the new cartridge to play them... which is ok, it means when I get a 256gb or higher card I can just redownload everything to one card and format the rest... but, it would have been quicker if I could just copy and paste on my PC, but I can understand why they didn’t do that, otherwise everyone would be copying games for friends.

@DizzyDee81 You could on the 3ds so I don't see why the Switch would be any different. You just can't take your memory card and play it on someone else's system

@BLP_Software Oh I certainly have enough money, without even being paid I have a lot as it’s for a deposit for a new car I’m getting in December. But that’s stupid that they don’t tell you until then.

Edit: It’s finally dispatched, it’s using Amazon courier rather than Royal Mail, so it should hopefully arrive tomorrow.

When I get home from work I'm gonna investigate further. But certainly you can use 2 microSD, with different games on each if you need to for space.

But maybe you can't have duplicates, at least, not without a quick update download before launching.

Will report back when I do some more testing.
