It doesn't live up to GoTY nods? I think you should consider the size of the project before coming to that conclusion. By comparison, TLoU 2 won more awards. But that's a game with a development team of over 350 people and tens of millions of dollars. Meanwhile, Hades had twenty people and a shoestring budget.

I think there hasn't been enough praise for the game.

@MagicianI don't think The Last Of House is GOTY either ;p I think a GOTY should be judged on their end results of the game itself rather than it's development, there's usually an indie award that covers that anyway.

I'm didn't saying it's bad as it's excellent, it's just hasn't given me a wow moment I would normally associate with a GOTY.

The moment you have bosses and enemies heat maxed in your pact, and you have all your favorite boons, and everything is just clicking, is when the game is elevated from GotY status to GOAT status for me.

Videogames just don’t get any better.

Also physical Switch release, and Xbox game pass rumors. Well deserved, Supergiant! Time to cash in on a job well done!

I fired up my physical copy for the first time last night, needless to say...first impressions have lived up to my expectations. As a maniac Switch physical collector I've played hundreds of janky, busted, half-assed, sloppy, mishandled Switch ports. By comparison, Hades is a gold standard, a crown jewel by which other Switch ports should be measured. There aren't very many games that come close to this level of care, quality, and polish.

NL's article back in January covered most of those that come to mind.

I got my physical copy on Monday. Zeus's holy trousers! This game is so addictive it's like crack. Simple and yet ingenious. I'm not surprised it's bagging all the awards as based on the few hours I've put in already it deserves them.

Dark mode or go home.

At the six hour mark, beat the Bone Hydra for the first time.

But now I'm routinely getting my teeth kicked in by Alecto and Tisiphone.

Gotta grind more darkness I suppose...

Thoroughly. The presentation (artwork, animation, voice work, use of colors) is top-tier when it comes to games with an indie budget. The gameplay is tight and right. I feel as though I could place Hades in any top-10 list of Switch games you should play at some point.

Yea, and it's the kind of game you can just hop back into at point. I've been away from it for a couple months, but I just boot it up and the it's like riding a bike. The controls are just so silky and varied with the different weapons. The art style is so awesome. It's a modern classic and a shining example of an indie rivaling the quality of AAA, right up there with Stardew Valley.

Reviving an old thread here. But I started a few days ago. I'm getting my rear kicked and there's no end in sight! I've only beaten the first boss twice. I turned on God mode as I read it makes it easier. It really hasn't if I'm being honest. I know this is an open ended question, but does anyone have any beginner tips? Or easy tricks to power through? I'm about 3-4hrs in and i feel like i stink at the game lol..

@NintendoByNature Its due to the rogue like nature of the game. You get your but kicked at the beginning but after a few play throughs you will get stronger and stronger but you will be playing the beginning portion of the game alot.

@Tasuki sounds good. I'll keep at it then. Sometimes, it just feels hectic and too much at once to keep track of everything around you.

Tasuki

@NintendoByNature Yeah that's one of the reason I personally don't like rogue elements. I get bored having to do the same things over and over just to get stronger to move on to the next part. To me it just feels like poor game design and just done that way to extand the game.

But back to Hades. Yeah once you unlock more skills and such you will start to get bit farther in the game.

@Tasuki only game in the genre I've loved so far is Cadence of Hyrule, for obvious reasons.

I'll keep plugging away at Hades.

@NintendoByNature Yeah if you can get past the rogue element Hades is a great game. I have watched my son playthrough it and beat it several times even getting the true ending. It's a great looking game the music is great and I love the voice acting and story. It's just the rogue element that I don't like.

If you like the idea of Hades but without the roguelike elements, you could give Supergiant's previous games Bastion and Transistor a look. They're both relatively short games that you can finish in a few hours, and without a lot of replay value, but are high quality while they last.

God Mode doesn't have much of an instant effect but will gradually make the game easier over time. Turn it on and you get a 20% damage reduction, which is useful but probably won't tip the scales by itself. This increases 2% for every failed run, though, up to as much as 80%, by which point you should be able to mash your way through along with all the other upgrades you'll have picked up.

@Matt_Barber I actually played bastion. Other than the awesome voice acting, I thought the game was boring as all heck. I only considered hades due to the my love for Greek mythology being Greek, and because of the high praise it received from critics.
