@Bolt_Strike To be fair, we haven't seen much of TotK yet. So I reserve my judgement. Maybe the game got a whole lot bigger than a simple sequel in development. Who knows? Hoping we get news on it soon considering it launches in may.
Nintendo loves coming up with new ideas but the Switch technically already has a Mario Kart, it would be stupid to just cut the sales short. Hence this compromises. Heck, remember Mario Kart Live? That was a new weird Nintendo idea related to Mario Kart. And the DLC Booster Course pass is not that bad. I'm enjoying all the courses at least.
I've said this before in other posts but I'll repeat it again. Not all games should be games that sell 10+ million guaranteed. If that is the case then the videogame industry transforms into one that just releases secuels, licenced games and franchise games. Having small AA games is what I actually enjoy the most from Nintendo. Games like Fire Emblem, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, Xenoblade, Bayonetta, Pikmin, Metroid, Donkey Kong, Kirby, etc. None of this games will sell 10+ million units but they are all unique and I enjoy a lot of them. I would be dissapointed if Nintendo just threw them all in the garbage because some people online thought that it was a "dissapointing year" because those games existed.
Also, I want to remind everyone that Nintendo had 3 games last year that will (or already have) 10+ million unit sold. You can dislike them or don't (I heavily dislike what they did to one of them at least) but they exist.
And finally I want to say one more think. Asking for new IPs but also saying games should sell 10+ million units is basically contradictory. Realistically, you cannot expect a new IP to do those numbers out of the gate.
@Link-Hero It's true that when I was like 15 I remember finished the same games multiple times in a short amount of time so you may have a point. Although I feel that I have more free time than a year ago when I was finishing my university degree and I still have trouble to finish games so it's probably more than just lack of free time.
And man... The last part of the comment was too real.
@jump In my case is backwards. Years ago I only played the most popular games or games that I already knew or I recieved as presents. Now I sometimes try to go out of my way to try weird small indie games or AA games.
@Link-Hero Yeah, you're not wrong there, but I'd maybe extend the age range to 10-30 going by my experience. You'd need a crowbar to get me of a game between 10-14 and by the time I hit 30 the 2.5hrs before burnout phase kicked in.
However I have found I'm just not as willing to play anything compared to when I was a teen. Playing a game simply because it's the big AAA of the year, being a social media meme sensation, the latest indie darling or some JRPG being declared a must play for it's story isn't enough to motivate me anymore so I stick to the games that actually tickle my fancy whether it's franchises I know or something I've not tried before which just sounds interesting.
I can relate to this. Questionable hype and sensationalism is approached with caution and scepticism. Any game that has a heavy emphasis on story and/or cutscenes will be overlooked in favour of a platformer or racer. If I want story I'll watch a movie or TV show or read a book. Gimme' gameplay goshdarnit.

I had finished around 20 games last year, around half of that are big long games. Even then, my backlog keeps getting replaced with new upcoming releases.
So yeah, there's no way I'm getting bored anytime soon.
@jowe_gv@gcunit I won't leave Nintendo completely (which I did brieftly with the Wii). Different now, compared to the Wii gen, was:
The Switch is 2 generations behind the competition (it's a mobile handheld device, so it will be difficult for Nintendo to balance cost, battery life etc) to get near the performance of even the last gen consoles.
I have an alternative way to play games on my backlog at better performance. Life is short, do you want to compromise, if you don't have too?
Gaming on the go, which is the Switch's biggest selling point (and cost which I think is decent), isn't a big thing for me. I play nearly 100% docked.
I'm lucky enough to be able to afford more powerful hardware. The Switch will now only be for exclusives, or any games on my backlog that run 1080p at 60fps. Nintendo software developers are being held back by their own hardware, which is a shame, as I would love to see what they could do with more power.
The reason I'm getting bored is not due to the lack of games (I have 100+ games on my backlog), but having to sacrifice performance on Nintendo's platform. I've put up with this since the Wii, but now that Nintendo have fallen even further back on the tech side, it's time to change my gaming habits.
@Judgedean very well put. I feel the same way. I still buy stuff on Switch if I think it can handle it but buy on other systems, steam deck included, if I see fit.
While I would love new hardware, I also am torn bc if we wait longer, maybe it will have a bit more power as production costs diminish over timeā¦
@Judgedean Uh...no, the Switch is quite substantially more powerful than the PS360, heck even the Wii U was a bit more powerful than those two consoles. No the Switch is only one generation behind as it is WAY more powerful than the PS3 and 360, but weaker than PS4 and Xbone.
@TowaHerschel7 When I say it's 2 generations behind, that means this gen, (PS5 and XSX) and last gen (PS4 and XB1). That's 2 generations. In terms of real-world performance, it is closer to PS3 than PS4.
@rockodoodle Thanks. I would love Nintendo bringing out a dedicated home console, with specs to give the the PS5 and XSX a run for their money, but with how successful they have been with the Switch, I don't see them doing this (and I don't blame them).
