I've been a big fan of Nintendo since the SNES days. Their innovation in hardware and software made them the leaders in the video game industry for decades. But after the release of the Switch and a wealth of AAA games shortly after its release, my enthusiasm has waned - especially over the last 2 years. The biggest reason for myself, are the specs and seeing too many games (even from Nintendo), making too many compromises. After seeing what the competition has, being 2 generations behind in power, and too many kiddie games, the other consoles and especially PC, seems more tempting than ever. I think I will use my Switch for exclusives only.
The Switch as a handheld, is 2nd to none, for price, form factor, battery life, and the software library, but I don't really use the Switch in handheld, it's almost always connected to the TV - especially after Covid and remote working.
Personally, I would love if they did a home console with NVIDIA, to compete against AMD, but I think with the success with the Switch, they would probably play it safe and release the Switch 2 with a spec bump and a unique gimmick or 2.
What about everyone else? Is your enthusiams for Nintendo as strong as ever, or are they becoming least important for your gaming fix with what is offered elsewhere?
@Judgedean It kind of seems like the price we pay for a longer lived console generation comes at the expense of less AAA Nintendo games. Do we have to wait 7+ years for the next 3d mario, and a decade+ for the next Mario Kart?
My money is ready for a more powerful Nintendo console. It's rather tiresome missing out on modern games. I'd also buy a tv-only console, if they offered it. I don't need the handheld (I know that's a big market, though).
To be honest, I'm quite well right now. I still have some old Switch games I want to buy and play from Nintendo. And there are so many indie and 3rd party games in my wishlist that I could go on for years playing the Switch alone if I wanted to.
Have I become bored with the Switch? Nope. My enthusiasm for the platform hasn't wavered. I have a...rather large backlog that will probably take me well into my retirement to play through.
Switch Physical Collection - 1,537 games (as of December 22nd, 2025)
Switch 2 Physical Collection - 4 games (as of December 8th, 2025)
This topic is blasphemous talk to me Just like what @Magician just said my enthusiasm for my Switch hasn't been reduced at all if anything it's generally always maxed out. My backlog just keeps growing and growing. My job hours are horrendous for keeping up with it and often times stresses me out. I have to be very strategic with the few hours a week I can barely scrap aside if any. I hate ageing
This fire is burning and it's out of control. It's not a problem you can stop it's Rock and Roll!!!
No, not at all. Nintendo's games are what I've always had the most fun with, there's still quite a lot of games I'd like to get for my Switch, and I have some Switch games on my backlog. I'm in no rush to get a new console, either. I don't really need a PS5 or a Series X/S, because I already have a lot of games to begin with, and I tried a couple of the newer PlayStation games and they didn't really leave a good first impression on me for some reason. Plus, it helps that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is getting more DLC courses next year, and when Nintendo's next console comes out, I'd rather wait until the next 3D Mario platformer and/or the next Mario Kart game are available for it.

Favorite game: Super Mario 3D World
AKA MarioVillager92. Ask if you want to be Switch friends with me, but I want to get to know you first. Thanks! ❤️
Thanks guys. I also have a massive backlog which I see as a good thing. I think because I have a PC, most of the games on my backlog list are also available on PC, and of course, it runs alot better (except for the very basic demanding games which the Switch can handle fine).
I still think the Switch is one of Nintendo's greatest achievements, but because of this success, they are in no rush for a successor (they don't need too). If I had to choose only 1 device, it would still be the Switch.
It's just that when you see something prettier and performs better, it can be hard to stay loyal to Nintendo
Not at all - in fact, I'm more enthusiastic about the Switch than ever, to the point of nearly ignoring my other consoles.
Third party support seems to get better every year, and for someone who absolutely adores the form-factor and convenience of the Switch...yeah, that's a big deal. I'll almost never buy a game on PC, PS5 or Xbox if it's available on Switch. Add to that the solid stream of exclusives and...yeah, I'm not getting bored any time soon.
If you prefer to play your third parties elsewhere, and are only interested in a select few Nintendo franchises? Yeah, I can see why you might get bored. But given those circumstances I think you'd get bored of every previous Nintendo console also...
No, there's so much I'm looking forward and lots of older stuff to play as well. A more powerful Switch would be nice and I do think it's happening alongside TotK in May but it's not a problem if that's not the case.
Switch is honestly the only current console of the 3 that I'd be satisfied if that was the only console I had. While there's still games I really like playing on Xbox that aren't on Switch, the Series X has mostly been a disappointment so far over my 1 year of owning it and I don't have a PS5 but not really inspired to have one either.
@Grumblevolcano I highly doubt the Switch's successor would release in Summer as that is blockbuster season for Sony and Microsoft. Releasing it then would be a terrible idea. Also the sheer number of first party games and dlc releasing throughout the year suggests otherwise.
@Judgedean
Getting bored with Nintendo Switch?
Kinda yes due to downgraded quality of 3rd party multi console games that made me disappointed at some point but I have made different assignment so I still able to enjoy my Switch.
For my Switch, I will only pick 1st party + 3rd party Switch exclusive + 1st / 3rd party remastered from other Nintendo machines.
And for 3rd party multi console games, I will pick the PS4 and or PS5 version to get better version. My PS4 & PS5 games are 99% really depended on 3rd party multi console games.
So I still able to build both of my Switch and PS4 + PS5 games library with this assignment. Win win solution.
No idea what to play and can't see it improving until Tears of the Kingdom arrives.
Being bored with it has just hit me now it seems, but it's likely been going on for a while - the Nintendo 64 service was my most played on the system this year.
I also own a PS5 and Xbox Series X, so I guess it's hard to juggle all three at once in between everything else going on in life.
The Switch never ported to be that powerful. As anyone can ask why can't a PS5 compete with a Gaming SLI Laptop it never will. So these questions are just clickbaits and not really asking the questions. The success of the Switch wasn't because of AAA games it was for all age/gender group that can enjoy the system Docked/Portable and that is the appeal of it all. Take Witcher 3, Skyrim, and NMS all of which push the edge including BOTW as well. But they still play good it's a matter of opinion what one consider Getting Bored of what. If people want a coffee table console you have the choices Xbox/PS to choose from. Nintendo isn't going to make a device like that Wii was the last and the 3DS model signify what was coming eventually. Nintendo already has a winning platform Nintendo Switch and a more capable unit later to help with AAA type games to deliver the performance needed as the current chipset can only be pushed so far. My suspicions is the Switch 2 or what it called will be released around BOTW2 game release to showcase the upgraded performance. One can spend all day talking the graphics isn't up to par but looking at sales and software developer showcasing their games on Switch should tell what's helping them to make sales.
Honestly yeah, a little bit. I agree with a lot that you said - the Switch really is a phenomenal console, and Nintendo's made some amazing stuff, but right about now... eh.
There's a few Switch games I'm looking to get that came out recently, like Triangle Strategy or Crisis Core Reunion, but overall the Switch's new games have just become kind of blah (excluding Tears of the Kingdom, of course).
I'd be extraordinarily easy to get me reobsessed with my Switch if more stuff I cared about got released, but it is how it is. It's given me an opportunity to replay some of my old favorites and experience some games I missed out the first time from some past generations.
That’s normal in life.
I get bored of my job.
I get bored of my favourite restaurant.
I get bored of my favoured holiday destination.
I get bored of my car. No actually I never get bored of my car
We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.
I'm getting a little burnout if I'm being honest, I feel less incentive to come back to some of the games in my library, Splatoon 3 got stale to me, Already did most of the postgame content for Xenoblade 3.
I think I need a break from my switch or gaming altogether for a short while.
