@darkfenrir I don't know how much of the story you've had spoiled for you, but I wouldn't poke around about Edelgard pre-timeskip, as she's incredibly integral to the overall direction of the plot.
All I'll say is that being driven and purposeful is fine. Being willing to sacrifice anything and anyone in order to achieve your ambitions is not. And I think that's probably why your friends respond poorly to her character.
BE is my next route, btw. I'm pretty sure I'm going:
1) Les Fem Byleth - Golden Deer - Dorothea or Mercedes S rank
2) Straight Male Byleth - Black Eagles (normal route) - Petra S rank
3) Straight Fem Byleth - Blue Lions - Dimitri S Rank
4) Gay Male Byleth - Black Eagles (alt route) - Linhardt S Rank (wouldn't be my first choice, but I don't want to romance old dudes, so he's all that's left -_-)

@Ralizah Yeah I kinda... spoiled myself on that part lmao. I was looking on how to get to the secret route and lo and behold the secret route is the opposite of what I expect. I thought the secret route is the church route and not Edel's
Even so though, I still find it... still made sense, I guess. Maybe I just like her too much.
Have fun with those choices btw, definitely good choices imo. Dorothea and Mercedes are very good
Or you can pick Sothis in the end -> don't open unless you have finished the game I guess.
@darkfenrir I love both of them. Dorothea is just a huge charmer, and her design is very cute, both pre-and-post timeskip. Mercedes is interesting: she initially appears to be a pure, Belldandy-esque character, but the more you learn about her, the more you become aware of the acutely probing mind hidden beneath the overwhelming feminine piety.
I just wish the gay options were better. Still an improvement from Fates, at least: at least none of the options in Three Houses like to inflict suffering on people. :/

@Ralizah agreed there. Oh yeah, Dorothea and Ingrid's support + paralogue are absolutely charming. Really make me wish those two can be together
And yeah the choice is so limited... Why not Claude and Linhardt :/ although at least Linhardt's really great lol. Love him a lot from what I see on how he talks and what he wants to do.
@darkfenrir I would have gone gay male for Golden Deer in a heartbeat if Claude was S-rankable. Don't really want a hetero relationship with him, though.
From what I hear, Dimitri is absolutely adorable to S-rank, whereas Edelgard... apparently won't even openly date you, and instead takes you on as a secret lover if you S-rank her, which kind of adds on to the whole "Edelgard sucks" thing.
It's good to hear Linhardt might actually be an interesting one to grow close to, though. I've not read ANY of his support convos yet.

Ya I dont really care about S supports. It's rather pointless in this game since it practically does nothing til the end credits anyways.
It's all about the platonic relationships in Three Houses. Which actually makes it far more interesting as the supports can focus on things other than building up to a marriage.
I was thinking back to Awakening, when Emmeryn committed suicide, and how impactful that moment was, which was really driven by the following map played in the rain, with that one song playing... I'm not sure Three Houses' moment was as emotionally gripping. They really didn't play their hand as well as they did in Awakening. And what it was missing was an imminent battle that had to he fought immediately after, with a killer song to set the mood and drive it home.
Eh, it's fine. But I still think nothing tops that moment in Awakening.

Yes that's true. Totally agree. Just wish theyd also done an immediate battle with a killer tune on top of it. Make you think while being flooded with emotions. Best combination

@JaxonH Too bad they massively undermined the effectiveness of that moment in Awakening by revealing that she survives in a paralogue, lol.
Although I doubt Jeralt's death would hit anyone hard anyway. We all knew the character was going to die before the game even came out. It's like the dog getting killed in a horror movie.
@Snaplocket A character can suck as a person and still be interesting. I don't think she's a bad character, but she's a terrible person, regardless of her motives.
"In Lunatic (or Maddening) Mode, bosses can actively move around. All archer enemies also now have Poison Strike while thief enemies have Pass. Some units have received buffs as well."
It's pretty cool that bosses won't just sit and wait for you to gang up on them now.

Am I the only one who thinks Awakening is still the best FE game?
Maybe because it was my first game for 3DS and first FE game but there’s definitely something special about that game. Intro movie, atmosphere, characters and hilarious support conversations are the best in the series imo. I’m only about 30 hours in FE3H but conversations are nowhere near Awakening level.
I absolutely adore Awakening and it’s still, even now, One of my favorite games of all time.
I feel like Three Houses is a better game overall, even if there were aspects in Awakening I liked more. There were some seriously good supports in Awakening though. No doubt. But there’s some really good ones in Three Houses too. And they feel more grounded in FETH. Less like a quit skit and more like real relationships. And that draws me into the characters more.
But Idk. Once a game reaches a certain level of awesomeness, it’s really hard to compare. It’s like asking whether infinity is greater than infinity. So I can’t definitively tell you which is greater. I think I’d vote Three Houses, but they are both among my favorite games of all time now. But Awakening will always have a place in my heart as not only the game that got me into the series, but the game that single-handedly made me a fan of turn based RPGs.

I don't like the map design in Awakening, personally. And the plot is alright, but nothing to write home about. If I remember it fondly, it's because it was my first FE game.
Of the games I've played, I'd rank them:
Three Houses > FE7 > Awakening > Fates: Birthright > Fates: Conquest
The added scope of TH just makes it vastly superior to the other games I've played. It's a big, ambitious game with a ton of content that feels like a proper evolution of the franchise.

I would go with Three Houses since it manages to push me to playing while being apprehensive with the TRPG gameplay.
I still avoid a lot of it with auto-battle and just overleveled, but occasionally I take control and I just like it as well while awakening I just cheated hue.
In Lunatic (or Maddening) Mode, bosses can actively move around.
I always disliked how most bosses just wait there and then you can easily surround them and attack with everyone or just outrange them. I cleared Chapter 10 yesterday and noticed that the boss in that battle had the ability to move and I was really hoping she would (while also being scared of that possibility) but she didn't until I got in her range. It would've certainly increased tension if she had moved on her own. I hope Lunatic is well balanced and beatable without grinding and dumb luck. I want to try it out.
@Late
Pretty sure they still had to get in range of Death Knight to get attacked in the video.
Only difference was he actually had a huge range sprawling half the floor, as opposed to 1 single tile in each direction.

Jesus, Petra/Bernadetta's paralogue is just brutal if you don't go straight for the exit.
Petra's advice is awful. Even if you can hold your own against the strong imperial soldiers who flood in as reinforcements, if you're not in a spot where you can actively intercept the units on the right side of the map, you've effectively lost the mission anyway. Getting a few squishy reinforcement soldiers is not worth go to the left side of the map.
So, yeah, hard mode is indeed quite hard when you spread your XP out instead of overleveling a handful of units.

@Ralizah
That’s the paralog I was referring to earlier where I said I lost 3 units, including myself. Had to use some serious strategy warping Petra into the lion’s den and making a run for the exit.

Also, Lunatic Mode gives poison strike to all archers and thieves get pass, on top of enemies like Death Knight being able to roam?
Sounds like it really is gonna be a legit difficulty mode. I’m just hoping it stays on planet earth and doesn’t blast the difficulty into the atmosphere. I want Hard, I want a true test, but I don’t want insanity, frustration or practical impossibility.
@Tsurii
Yes. Flayn has Rescue, while Linhardt and Manuela have Warp. Two invaluable moves for tight jams.

I love Manuela. Her flaws make her more real and relatable. She’s not the best character on my team but having another healer with Nosferatu is always appreciated.
