@Venus_Adept So, I think I just completed the mission you're on (the one where Gilbert helps you in raiding the fortress, right?). I love how this game goes full Berserk once you get to the boss!

I completed it on my first go. For phase one (pre-demon), I left my healer and a couple of reasonably strong units with Gilbert to babysit him while he played with the reinforcements that kept coming from the back while my main force forged ahead and cleared the path. By the time Gilbert was done attacking the reinforcements, my main unit was nearly at the boss.

For phase two, all I can say is make judicious use of gambits to stagger the boss and have your healer cover Gilbert's butt full time. In terms of making quick work of the boss, I found that using Byleth's special associated with Sword of the Creator knocks a ton of health off of it, and the enemy's counterattack had really terrible accuracy.

Stagger the boss, go ham, make sure Gilbert's health is topped off before his turn, and you should be good to go.

One thing I never love in games is babysitting suicidal computer-controlled allies.

Make sure to invite 3 friends if you want to beat MUA3 then 😉.
Beated the mission with all units alive a few minutes ago. As you guys says. Was really important to keep Gilbert fully healed at the starts of his turns in the boss battle. Thank you to all of you.

@Venus_Adept Thankfully, that game was never on my radar anyway.

Glad you beat the boss. It was a toughie. I actually had to use a divine pulse once or twice to get through the fight!

Hard/Classic is so much more fun when you don't have to reset for making one little mistake near the end of a drawn-out battle!

BTW im playing in hard, but i dont know what is the diference. Is better AI? Better enemy stats? More enemy units? Some combination of these options?

Fire Emblem just keeps getting better and better. My goodness. The paralog map with Ingrid (who’s not in my house) was phenomenal.

You had to Route The Enemy or Escape. I had killed all but one enemy so I flew Petra, my Pegasus Knight, over the lava to attack the last guy right by the exit. I knew I couldn’t kill him in one attack but I figured when he attacked me on his turn I would just finish him off then. Well...

As soon as I moved reinforcements arrived right by the exit. THREE of them. I was ambushed, and immediately I felt my gut sinking as I realized Petra’s inevitable fate. The enemy attacked me as planned but he whiffed, and extremely fortunate outcome for me but not enough to get me out of the thick yet. I countered and killed him. Three more to go.

First up, he attacks and lands hit. I counter and kill him.
Second up, he attacks me and DOUBLES ME, but he WHIFFS BOTH OF THEM! I counter and kill him.
Third up, he attacks and HITS ME, leaving me with just 1HP. That’s it. Just 1HP. I counter and kill him, winning the map. And I damn near had a heart attack. Petra, with a well deserved MVP.

Chapter 8 just began.

I just noticed: you can jump in the loading screen by pressing B? How useless xD

A piece of the Triforce appeared before you! (>'.')> â–² Touch it now!

Jump and move left and right by tilting the controller. I always try to run and jump over the end of the progress bar as it moves left to right.

Wow that zoomed-in view (from pressing +) where you can just control the movement like a regular 3rd person character, is kinda awkward and not helpful.

It's dangerous to go alone! Stay at home.

JaxonH

It's a novelty, nothing more. I like it for viewing the battlefield and for screenshots though

It's cool to get a 'to scale' view of the battlefield. Of course, then I return to the more rudimentary tactical view.

I'm finding this game a bit of chore to play handheld because a lot of the text is so tiny! I'm spending a lot of time double-tapping the home button to zoom in.

LOL Hilda's supports are all about her trying to con people into fighting for her and acting like a lazy bum. In reality, she's an Armored Knight and one of my strongest front-line units. Talk about dissonance!

Late

@Ralizah Just class changed her to an Armored Knight as well. My headcanon is that she can get things done and might even enjoy it once you get her going. That's why I'm making her work extra hard on the battlefield. She also asked me about cleaning once and I told her to clean up her own mess even though I know there's no benefit for that.

I know you don't like her that much (I laughed when I read your comment about Lorenz and Hilda earlier this week) but I quite like her. Sure, she has been bit of a one note character so far but maybe that'll change. I like how easily she can manipulate Lorenz and other boys. The one thing I don't like about her are those eyes. I said last week that I don't like how the facial animations look but I think it's actually just that I don't like how Hilda stares at people with her big pink eyes. It's kind of creepy.

I like almost everyone equally but I just don't find Leonie as great. I guess we just started on the wrong foot. She disliked my answer regarding Jeralt when we first met. I didn't know how great my dad was. I just met him. And I certainly didn't know he's the only thing in her mind. She's really good at combat though. She's had quite a few critical hits so far. I've let her follow Jeralt's footsteps and she's going to get her horse soon.

Late

Ralizah

@Late Yeah, I gave the "wrong answer" about Jeralt too! I don't mind her, though. She's straight-forward, reasonably kind, and tries to carry her own weight whenever possible, so to speak.

I still kind of hate Lorenz, but I've softened on him. Don't get me wrong: he's still a snobbish, thirsty weasel of a boy, but, at the same time, it's genuinely funny how profoundly he seems to creep out every girl he talks to. Fem Byleth actually had to pull him aside a few times because the female students kept complaining about his advances!

To be honest, I'm starting to like Lysithea less and less as time goes on, as ALL of her dialogues seem to revolve around her being paranoid about people treating her like a child. And boy, she really goes to town on people who are just trying to be nice to her.

I think my biggest problem with Hilda is that, unlike Lorenz, she totally gets away with her manipulations, and it's genuinely irritating watching her trick nice people into slaving away for her in most of her support conversations. All of her convos with Lorenz so far have practically made me gag.

I recruited Sylvain early on, and while he's a bit flirtatious for my liking, I feel like his behavior hasn't been too oppressive in that regard. He started creeping on Fem Byleth during her last convo with him, though, so I'm not really a fan of where he seems to be heading.

@Ralizah Leonie is certainly one of the more down to earth characters. I may just find her a bit boring compared to the other characters. She's so normal. The same goes for Ignatz. His support discussions haven't been anything special yet. He is kind of similar to me. Shy, likes books and arts and wears glasses.

I've also not liked Lysithea as much lately for the same reasons. At least she knows to apologize when she goes too far. Sometimes.

I must say I really enjoyed Raphael and Hilda's support conversation about making the necklace. It actually made me laugh. Raphael is a funny guy. He mostly spends his time in the dining room and talks about food but he hasn't had that many support conversations that focus on food. Or maybe he has but I just don't remember them.

Late

Ralizah

@Late I feel like 90% of Raphael's dialogue is about how much he likes to eat. He's alright, although it's kind of pitiful watching people desperately look for reasons not to be around the guy.

Although, yeah, he gets points for making one of Hilda's conversation lines actually tolerable to watch.

Yea, I haven't had issues with text in handheld mode at all. I actually have more issues with it on the TV screen lol

Hubert seems very well suited, personality-wise, to the Dark Mage Class, without actually creating a lunatic like Henry that giggled like a schoolgirl at the mere prospect of casting a spell and killing someone.

His devotion to lady Edelgard is beyond question. So I can buy in to Hubert. He’s cold, but not unreasonable.

I haven’t made it to the timeskio yet, but so far I’ve really enjoyed the Blue Lions. They’re all well realized enough that I’m enjoying hearing their progress and their interactions. The plot line is losing me a bit rn however. After the goth baddies started showing up the story kind of dropped in quality.

Byleth as a character is also strange so far. It feels like IS wanted them to be a legitimate character but at the same time they have no personality and such. The writing tries to make that part of their character but it’s lazy and the game has a habit of glorifying the protagonist a bit. It’s just awkward and eye-roll inducing when characters are always complimenting Byleth and how strong and capable they are. How everyone loves them. In my head, I’m like, this could be handled a lot better.

Byleth is a self insert character, so that just comes with the territory. The player is supposed to feel like that’s them. I named my Byleth Jaxon, for example. And I think complimenting Byleth is fine. He is one of the professors after all, and son of Jeralt, and wields a crest decended from Nemesis. Catherine has people who practically worship her, as does Jeralt. So it’s not like he’s the only one. And it’s supposed to make the player feel good about their accomplishments thus far, which I’d say it’s successful at doing.

I’ve also heard that Byleth becomes a much more interesting character in the second half.

@Galenmereth
I’m about 1/3 into Black Eagles myself. There’s a choice coming up and I’m still not entirely sure what that choice entails, or what I’m going to choose, but I’ll probably keep a save point at the choice just so I can come back and try the other once I finish the game.
