So I swore I wasn't going to reset the game or abuse the Sands of Time 🤣 or anything like that, but first Ferdinand and then Petra just got taken out by totally cheap shots. So much for playing "Pure Fire Emblem", I am NOT letting Petra go that easily.

Rewind....

@JasmineDragon
Oh I've already played two battles where I had to rewind multiple times lol

One had a mage that would double cast a fireball. Took out Caspar pretty handily and then someone else (forget) when I rewound for the second time.

But the rewind, although definitely a crutch, does show you the tactical mistakes you made. Each time I rewind I look at the field and notice options I didn't consider the first time, which will make me better for the future (hopefully).

I have this game, but haven't played it yet.

Is the social link stuff as fun as P5? After seeing JasmineDragons little rant up there: is this tactical gay persona?

So what’s the consensus on reclassing?

Is it better to wait until you’ve mastered the class to gain the mastery bonus, or promote right away to get better growths and start chiseling away at a much better mastery skill? Obviously for intermediate and above classes, it’s best to master them because their mastery skills are too good to pass up. But what about the beginner classes? Specifically, the Myrmidon, Soldier, Fighter and Monk classes? I am already around level 10 and have only 25% mastery on these. I really don’t want to hang around for another 5 levels while I master them, especially for little stat +2 bonus and a swap or shove command. Not to say it wouldn’t be nice to have but it just doesn’t feel like it’s worth the time investment required.

I am leaning towards promotion immediately into the intermediate classes but then staying the course for full mastery going forward after that. But perhaps others have thoughts on this matter?

@Trajan
Yes. This game is every bit as good as Persona 5. I say that with the upmost confidence.

It’s not exactly the same of course, more “general similarities” than anything else. But I’ll say this. I am enjoying the social aspects in this game more than I enjoyed the social aspects in Persona 5, which tbh felt a little more tedious and less rewarding. But it’s different. I don’t think you’ll find another game out there like this. And the best part is, if for whatever reason it does start getting tedious or grating later on in the game, you always have the option of completely automating and skipping everything besides the core battling. Which, that freedom right there gives it a leg up in my opinion.

Btw, on the loading screen where you see the little pixel art character on the bottom, you can make him move right or left by tilting the controller.

@JaxonH I would say ignore the classes that don't take the character on the route to the final class you are looking towards, there's no real point training a fighter type up in reason and faith say, when that's never going to be their focus in battle. Just dead stat building imo.

@JaxonH You know that Edelgard has acces to an exclusive lord master class? Maybe you like the mobility of Great Lord, but stat wise Emperor will likely be superior. (and more badass looking)

Byleth also has an exclusive lord master class that allows her to use sword, faith and brawl. Pretty awesome combination!

"Fire Emblem: Three Houses launched to critical acclaim on Friday and I’m sure many of you are enjoying the strategic title. A new interview via Famitsu has come to light and surprisingly Fire Emblem: Three Houses was primarily developed by Koei Tecmo with minimum input from veteran series developer, Intelligent Systems."

This is... interesting. K-T is doing so much good work with Nintendo franchises this gen.

Minimum input? That’s weird... maybe they are working on a paper Mario? Or hopefully a wars title.

Kusakihara: In regards to staffing, Intelligent Systems provided Koei Tecmo with a minimum crew of several designers, a music composer, and an adviser to the programmers – not including myself, of course. We then left Koei Tecmo in charge of basic game development.

Just goes to show how crucial those roles are in affecting the end product. Not to say KT are bad developers. They were working with their strategy team from Nobanuga’s Ambition and Romance of the Three Kingdoms after all (whom I credit for the theme of the game, whether they admit it or not- they did say that KT’s love for that story is what rubbed off on them).

But ya. Put the right man at the helm and a small skeleton crew of pivotal figures, and you could turn just about any development studio into a master class of game design.

Btw, how bout that killer soundtrack, ya? (said in Wakka voice). You best believe I unlocked every music track at Amiibo gazebo. But just the core soundtrack of the game is spectacular. It always is with FE, but this one is particularly good

@Mondos
I think I agree overall, but don't levels in any stats all combine to determine if/when you can pick up more advanced classes? Like, if my fighter is a few levels away from being able to take an intermediate class and can easily gain a few levels in magic or faith through lecture or seminar bonuses, shouldn't I just go for it rather than slogging through small increases in axe/sword/bow skill (assuming they already have enough in the weapon to class up)?

Sorry, I realize that's a lot of words lol

So, I love this game, but I might have chosen the wrong house, because Hilda and Lorenz are making me want to strangle them, and Raphael is a one-note joke character who everybody else seems to find deeply obnoxious.

Everyone else is OK, though.

@Ralizah I wouldn't worry, the grass is not necessarily greener on the other side. The other houses have one-note joke characters too. Like Linhardt: his personality is as lazy as it is lazy written. But I heard that some characters aren't as bland as they appear and they become more interesting as you unlock supports.

Also, doesn't Claude completely make up for it? When he said I chose Golden Deers just to get to know him better he couldn't be more right xD

What is AS, Prt and Rsl and what do they do?

@Edelgard @Ralizah I thought somewhat the same of Sylvain and Dedue at first but as their supports and story went on I actually ended liking them more as characters,m. I’m not sure about your examples as I haven’t played their narrative but I’m hopeful they’ll get better as things progress.

@rallydefault You may be right now I think a bit deeper, ( original post was just as I woke up at 6am!) As I assume you get relevant bonuses once you pass the class exams. I don't know if you get all the bonuses or just for the class you currently have selected when leveling up though.

Another thing we will have to look into I suppose!

Reached the point where I had to use the time rewind feature thanks to Chapter 5's story battle. Story and battle spoilers below.

I learned midway through the battle that the enemies don't always attack the ones they seem to be targeting and they were able to kill Raphael. Didn't expect that 17 damage gambit. I knew my move was bit risky but I trusted the information I had. He wouldn't have died if the units attacked the units I thought they'd attack and I don't know how easy it would be to find out / calculate the damage for gambits. I'll have to check next time if the damage values can be seen from somewhere. I was a bit hesitant at first but decided to turn back time.

This is also the chapter which introduces monsters and I didn't get the mechanics at first. I thought I'd be able to confuse it at the end of my turn but I didn't pay enough attention to know that the confusion was tied to those yellow tiles under it. So I ended up making an all out attack and I would've actually killed it if I'd gotten a 25% critical. I failed to do so and the monster attacked on its turn, killing Mercedes who was with me as a "borrowed unit" and the "old knight" who pretty much wants to get killed by that thing. None of my own characters died but I was bit confused myself and unsatisfied with the results that I decided to rewind time. That's when I noticed how many rewinds I had. Way too many. I failed on my second try as well but on my third time, I finally got hang of the confusion thing after rereading the tutorial from the menu and I was able to keep everyone alive. Including that one stupid ally unit who charges at the monster on his turn.
