Long time Level 5 fan (favourites are DC2 and the Layton Diabolical Box) who has never played this. I’m looking to pick up a physical copy if possible, but am mainly curious what platform is best fitted to play it on? I would have probably defaulted to PS5 for a smooth experience, but is it worth waiting to get for Switch 2? If especially a physical form of the game was available for Nintendo’s next console, I’d wait and go for that - unless it’s a game key card.
I’m currently coming off an Atlus bender with Odin Sphere on PS4 wrapped up, so I’d like to jump into this next. Recommendations and thoughts appreciated!
@Enriesto unfortunately we don't know when the Switch 2 version is coming. I'm guessing it won't be too long after Switch 2 release since they would have been preparing to make a Switch 2 version for ages, but we don't know.
Personally I am waiting for the Switch 2 version — if multiplayer had been a big aspect of the game I might have caved into fomo, but since it's not I don't mind waiting. After the last year or two of sub-par Switch versions of games, I want to start with one of the best versions of a game for once. Granted, the Switch 1 version of this game sounds great so it may only be pretty minor improvements on other devices.
@Anti-Matter To be clear, this IS still primarily a JRPG.
But they've definitely amped up the life sim elements compared to the original, and you can probably spend a lot of time decorating and customizing your island.
It's very cute, wholesome, and high quality. I'm sure it runs beautifully on PS5, too. You'll love it.

Oh, btw.
I remembered Fantasy Life I was talking about Time Travel through the Portal gate that will allow you to travel on different timeline.
Have you reached that part and what was that about the Time Travel in the game?
@Anti-Matter Yeah, you jump between the past and present throughout the game. The present has the island where you explore a large, main story-related dungeon known as the Depths, develop your island, and awaken new residents with the goddess statue. The past is where you do the traditional Fantasy Life stuff of exploring new areas and completing quests to rank up in your job system. There's also a third separate map of the game, Ginormosia, which is sort of like a mini-Breath of the Wild game. You'll find little critters and puzzle shrines in an open-worldy zone that you can explore whenever. Unsure if that's set in the future or something, but it's separate from the past and present areas.
I just picked this up due to the rave reviews. While I do think the art style is kiddish, the more I watch videos on it the more it grows on me. It seems like a wonderful, cozy experience and I think that is needed after Clair Obscur and Doom: The Dark Ages. Hopefully it surprises me. And it’s Level-5! Welcome back!
Quick question before I consider picking this up. Is it possible to play through the whole game without switching lives?

I chose my first Life as a Mercenary. I’ve only done a few missions because I’m short on time, but it’s so charming and relaxing. It also satiates that TLoZ itch in a way most games can’t achieve these days.
About 15 hours in. The gameplay loop of gathering, crafting, pushing the story forward, and repeat...still feels good. Although I'm not sure how I feel about the Ginormosia map. Grindable zones for better loot?
At first blush it feels like it was added just to pad the game's completion time.

@Magician The Open World is pretty much meant to make up for the lack of the story areas being explorable. Without it, the game would be extremely short with barely any content I'm pretty sure.
