@Spider-Kev They didn't for story reasons. Ginormosia is implied to be a very specific thing that wouldn't make sense to be combined into the Past or Present versions of the map.

Having a party of companions, with their own progression and gear, is pretty cool. It lowers the gear check for gathering, crafting, and combat. It feels like an offline version of an online multiplayer experience. They allow you to complete tasks more than ten levels above the recommended level.
They draw serious agro in combat. They boost your SP and debuff your target when gathering. I would argue that they're overpowered. But they're so useful I that I can't complain.

35 hours. Collecting Stangelings, just trying to approach the 400 gear checks using every avenue available. Properly equipping and leveraging the followers can add several hundred points for gathering and crafting.

I would say it's win for Keiji Inafune, but he left Level-5 in mid-2024 (presumably fired). So it was Yugo Nakajima who directed the clean up and got the game to the finish line. Probably isn't Keiji Inafune's last chance, but he'll likely go incognito like Tomonobu Itagaki.
Mildly disappointing...to be honest. The level fifty gear checks for the cog pieces at the end are inconsequential. My fishing is only level eighteen and yet I was able to get that piece of the cog with no trouble. The final boss is best handled with a ranged class, either archer or mage. Just target-lock the bombs as the boss tosses them out. Easy peasy.
There's probably 100+ hours of grinding up your classes to hero and/or grinding the Ginormous zones to max level. But...what would be the point? In the end, it feels like so much of the game's content could've (should've) been cut down. If it were, the game could have been released twelve to eighteen months ago.
An 8/10 experience, but could've been tighter, better.
@Magician The point of the end-game grind beyond completionist status is mostly to get ready for the DLC. The free DLC, and whatever paid content they'll release in the future. Especially if that content ends up being something like the Origin Island DLC, where you can rank up to God rank.

Except since this game dropped 9/10ths of the story content from the first, I would not expect any story content in the DLC.
@Spider-Kev I'm not expecting any story content. I don't even play Fantasy Life for the story since the original game majorly disappointed me with it's story when I originally played that.
If you're playing a game like Fantasy Life, going in for the story is just going to land you in a state of disappointment.
