The original Fantasy Life was one of my favorite games on the 3DS. It's basically an mmo that can be played online with friends or offline solo. It's an action/rpg with lite crafting elements. I assumed this game would be lost to time, stuck on the 3DS. Today's announcement of a sequel has made me very happy.
I live in a family where everyone has almost entirely different tastes in gaming and platforms, yet we all really loved Fantasy Life and frequently played together. Really excited to see a proper sequel.
I wish I had some friends that played Fantasy Life back then, I feel like it would have even further added to the experience. Even still, I loved Fantasy Life and put around 100 hours into it. Definitely one of my top 3DS games, super hyped for this!
I’ve been begging for a return to this series that wasn’t mobile so I will be there day 1.

I can't believe they're making a new one. I thought for sure Level 5 was done. Finito.
And yet... here we are
Psalms 22:16 (1,000 yrs before Christ)
They pierced My hands and feet
Isaiah 53:5 (700 yrs before Christ)
He was pierced for our transgressions
Zachariah 12:10 (500 yrs before Christ)
They will look on Me whom they pierced
This game should be called Fantasy Life Builders.
I saw the Minecraft style of terraforming like Portal Knights and Dragon Quest Builders.
This game will be my 90 from 100 game.
I need to go back to the original and finishing reaching God-hood in all the different lives. Thrilled that this exists. I would like more info, but given that it has only just been announced, I can wait.
A new trailer was released earlier this morning. It talks about a few of the lives (classes) you can play as, although not all of them. Level-5 will probably release more trailers discussing more of the classes leading up to the game's release later this year.
If you're unfamiliar with Fantasy Life's gameplay loop, basically all the lives (classes) synergize with each other. Your combat lives (paladin, mercenary, hunter) allow you to fight monsters to gather enemy materials. Your gathering lives (woodcutter, miner, angler) allow you to chop wood, cut crystals, and fish. And your crafting lives (cook, tailor, blacksmith) allow you to gear up, making all of your lives easier to accomplish.
It's all harmonious. You're compelled to play every class and to eventually max every class. It's very easy to sink many...many hours into the game as you hopscotch between all the classes. And now it appears Level-5 will be adding an Animal Crossing-esq town editor as well?
This'll be a game where you could sink 100+ hours without breaking a sweat.
The original Fantasy Life was one of my favorite 3DS games. Interesting to see them lean into the Animal Crossing vibes a bit more here, but it looks like the game is still an action-rpg, so it's all good.
If anyone wants something spicy for their video game trivia. The core concept for Fantasy Life was originally intended for True Fantasy Live Online. What was suppose to be an original Xbox exclusive mmo back in the day. The Fantasy Life games are the condensed version of what that game was suppose to be.
Kudos to Level-5 for making lemonade out of the lemon that was a cancelled project.
I feel like the mobile game was one last swing at the MMO can but personally I am glad console Fantasy Life is back.

Interesting. Never knew about that cancelled Xbox game.
I prefer it as a non-MMO experience with optional co-op.

So excited for this! I had a blast playing the original Fantasy Life. In fact, I did a playthrough earlier this year, started before the new one got announced. So much fun. Hope we get a release date this week at Tokyo Game Show (TGS). Level-5 will have a big presence there, it looks like.
Level-5 is going to have playable demos for Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time, Decapolice, and Inazuma Eleven Victory Road at TGS this week (Runs September 21-24). So people who attend TGS in person can try out these games. It looks like you get special coins for playing the demo (while supplies last). Really wish I was there so I could go! I attended TGS in 2010 and again in 2014.
I am anticipating a updated Switch remaster as the game looks unique for it own game play. Just cause it looks similar does mean it can do something is how I see it. Take fae farm it's a pleasing change from TOTK and Pikmin 4.
Level-5's Tokyo Game Show (TGS) presentation starts in about 5 minutes (10:30 a.m. Japan Standard Time on Saturday, 9:30 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) on Friday night). It starts with Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time, lasting around 40 minutes. Maybe we'll get the release date and learn what the last new Life is?
