You'll be glad to know quite a few people in my other forum got the PS4 version already planning to get Switch one as well, @VIIIAxel .... Some of them even got that again when it went to PS4! I'm glad I didn't have a PC then, so I had to wait for Switch one but I did end up getting that again when it came to Steam
@VIIIAxel Thing is, I have a PC that's capable (I sure hope, that is) of running Microsoft Flight Simulator, but that's likely the only use I'd have in terms of gaming on the PC. I'm not a fan of the problems with optimising hardware, cooling, processing, et cetera, that you have on PC, whereas on a console everything's to spec, you get the same stuff as everyone else. So no individual console has a benefit over another, until hardware revisions.
Microsoft's freedom with their IPs is refreshing to see, though I doubt other companies, especially Nintendo, would do the same.
Helps for me that I began getting interested in Dragon Quest after XI S came onto Switch. I'm not fussed over performance benefits on PS4/5, unless it's game-breaking. Having said that some games just deserve the power, like Witcher 3, which I ordered a few weeks ago.
@Anti-Matter you left out “I do not like digital games” which means you’re just as likely to buy a game from the Microsoft stream as the Wholesome Indie Direct one ;p
Now that the Ubisoft event has gone: Still no Beyond good and evil 2? Either the game is in big development-hell, or its cancelled.
These may be the reasons:
1: They wanted people's participation with art, music etc. It just doesn't work. It also killed Megaman legends three.
2: Michel Ancel got kicked out because of "me too".
Ah well, I was a bit interested because I loved the original. But this would have been totally different. Not only big openworld (it worked for Zelda though), but also different main-characters. But above else a very gritty tone with lots of cursing. That totally ISN'T what the original was about. And it wouldn't have hit the Switch anyway (but maybe Switch2?).
Microsoft - 5/10 - Some good games, good pacing except FH5 (too long) and a few trailers with no meaningful info (e.g. Starfield, Outer Worlds 2), was good that it focused more on the near future (2021/2022)
Lol if you thought that was only a 5/10, you're going to be waiting until the heat death of the universe before you get a 10/10
They've gotten close a few times since Phil Spencer took over like I felt Xbox E3 2015 was around a 9/10 and X019 was around a 8/10. The aim of the Xbox presentations nowadays is "Look at all these games coming to Game Pass, who knows maybe you'll discover a new game you like that you initially had no interest in because it's no extra cost". Me as someone who has absolutely no interest in Game Pass and subscriptions in general (only subscribe to Gold and NSO as you have to for online play) means there's only a few games I'll play from the Showcase with those being the ones I'm interested in.
Which are:
Flight Simulator (requires a Series X)
DOOM Eternal (the announcement was Series X enhancements though waiting to see what happens on the Switch front before getting the Xbox version, physical Switch version with both expansions would be best outcome)
Forza Horizon 5
Halo Infinite
I redeemed Psychonauts when it was free so if I like it Psychonauts 2 would be added to that list.
@Henmii Michel Ancel wasn’t kicked out because of #metoo, he “retired” after allegations of creating a toxic work environment so stuff like shouting, throwing things, name calling rather than sexual harassment/assault.
You have learnt nothing from the # movements, if you’re not part of the solution you’re part of the problem, DOWN WITH THIS SORT OF THING etc. ;p
Not watched any of the conferences so far but kept up on the new and...looks like I didn't miss much.
Ubisoft: As time passes, the more I realise their games really aren't for me. No love for Rayman at all, and tbh I'm kinda hoping they've gone back to the drawing board with Beyond Good and Evil 2, if they're still working on it at all (what we saw previously didn't seem to capture any of the magic of the original, instead throwing a bunch of gratuitous swearing and a Ubi open-world together). That said, Rabbids is the only game of E3 so far that I'll be getting day 1 - more games like that please.
Xbox: I just picked up a Series S and really like it. That said...Xbox still do nothing new to excite me. I'll probably pick up Halo and Forza eventually...but I'm already behind in these series and they're really low priority for me, so these will probably be late-gen games for me anyway. Psychonauts 2 is probably the highlight for me here. Kinda disappointed that no backwards compatible game additions were announced (to my knowledge?)
Square-Enix: A "pixel-perfect" remaster of I-VI sounds great to me, although realistically I've only been waiting on VI (which supposedly is a masterpiece - but I don't imagine I'll ever find time for the other games). I don't mind playing on mobile or PC, but ideally this would've been Switch, so I can understand the disappointment. I think more disappointing is that this has taken so long and it's still limited in some way. I would've much preferred a HD-2D remake of FF6, as many have mentioned before.
Misc indies from other shows: loads of interesting looking things here. I don't tend to get hyped in advance for indies, but I'm sure there'll be a few that stand out on release and I'll be happy to try those.
Eh...I'm not too disappointed as I tend to get less out of the more "Western" conferences anyway. We'll see how Nintendo goes.
Now that the Ubisoft event has gone: Still no Beyond good and evil 2? Either the game is in big development-hell, or its cancelled.
At least that one is kinda understandable. It was a really huge and ambitious project. Those are easy to go wrong with.
What happened to the pirate game though? That was literally just ripped out of Assassin's Creed, and they still couldn't manage to get it finished within 4 years.
@Grumblevolcano Honestly, I think that you should get Game Pass Ultimate because that has Love Gold and hundreds of games, so to me it's a no-brainer. And it's only like $5 a month more than Xbox Live Gold's monthly membership.
@BruceCM I know that a lot of DQ fans who got it on PS4/PC ended up picking up the Switch release when that came eventually, which I think was great for showing more support for the series! I am glad that XI S came over to other platforms as well; I was happy with the versions I already had at that point, but I think giving it a more widespread release is really important for a more niche series like DQ to grow internationally (Which it thankfully has due to XI's success). I will admit the cheaper price point of the multiplatform release of S made it a bit tempting to pick up again, but I've managed to hold off... for now, anyway.
@TheJGG I've got a beefy PC as well, but I agree on liking the simplicity of consoles too. It's nice having a solid system that you can just plug in and have set quickly, and it's also helpful not having to tinker with settings and bug fixes (not that console releases are free of bugs of course, but there are some unoptimized PC ports that can be frustrating to deal with). My PC's more of a VR machine these days, but there are still some genres and games that I also just prefer playing with mouse and keyboard. Namely shooters since I find stick aiming really uncomfortable, though I really love how many Switch shooters support gyro aiming.
I generally prefer the convenience of the Switch and its portability when it comes to multiplatform games, but there are definitely some cases where I think the performance trade-off makes it worth going with PlayStation or PC. I'm pretty anxious to see some footage of Neo: The World Ends With You running on Switch, for example, since I'm stuck deciding if I want to get it on there for portability/consistency with the first game or if I should go with PS4 to avoid potential performance issues on Switch...

Updated opinions on E3 so far since I forgot a few:
Wholesome: 9/10, it just had so much quality. Now I might not get them all because some are PC-only and I have a toaster as a PC, but overall, spectacular.
Ubisoft: 2/10, nothing for me beyond Mario and Rabbids, and boring overall. Also had to deduct points for the lack of Just Dance on the Wii and ANYTHING Rayman related, not even a port of the Apple Arcade title "Rayman Mini".
Xbox/Bethesda: 8/10, cool announcements like Psychonauts 2, The Outer Worlds 2, and Microsoft Flight Simulator on Xbox, but not crazy or mind-blowing. Great pacing for the most part, except for the Forza Horizon 5 segment, but even then that visually looks great. I would have liked to see more of Bethesda's games rather than CGI trailers, and the lack of Rare's old titles will always stick out like a sore thumb, but great conference overall.
Gearbox: 0/10, no.
Square Enix: 2/10, most of the games don't look too exciting, and all the Marvel games I feel scared for after Avengers. Does make me want to kill Chaos though, and I'm still crossing my fingers for Guardians of the Galaxy since I love the franchise.
WB Games: 4/10, it's a 10 minute stream for Back4Blood, I feel like this could have just been shown on Microsoft's conference at like a quarter of the time. But the game itself looks great. The conference was just pointless.
PCs are a lot more user friendly these days, @VIIIAxel .... There's an updater for my CPU & GPU drivers that are otherwise rather tedious to sort out! The vast majority of games are well designed for Steam, while I like having more options for graphics settings & so on, too Obviously, I can only have played a small fraction of all the games on there, so I'm sure there's some bad ones but overall, it's really quite straightforwards
I'd make the case against this argument because I don't really agree at all. But I'm probably not the best person to be arguing that something is technically easy. When I say something's simple I'm bringing with that a whole bunch of assumed knowledge.
But also, GPUs are super expensive right now as are CPUs. For the equivalent tier of spec you're probably paying a good 30-40% more overall for a new PC than you were a couple of years ago. You definitely can't get a gaming PC with new components for anywhere near the cost of a PS5 or XBox Series X at retail......
...... not that you can buy a PS5 or XBox Series X

I speak abit of Portuguese and this is saying "Wake up, Link! You have an epic week ahead of you!". Clearly building up hype for Tri-Force Heroes HD at E3!
