Topic: Doom 1, 2, 64 + 3

I heard there's a new WADs available now in Doom, No End in Sight. Haven't checked it myself or seen a serious source, but if anyone is curious...

i have questions and need some great answers.
for classic games doom, doom 2 and doom 64...
i re downloaded the original first one (doom) and i see the bethesda email/account stuff still there. ive updated the game, but when i go to add ons it tells me i have to create an account in order to get the add ons? i thought the bethesda stuff was over.
i have the switch versions.

@ogo79 : Bethesda's login BS never went away, unfortunately (despite misleading reports that later patches did away with the mandatory log-in). It may not necessarily be mandatory anymore, but damn it, I still have to put the console on flight mode whenever I'm playing on the go to prevent the online checks.

You will need to log-in with a Bethesda account in order to access the bonus WADs for DOOM I & II, however. There is some variance between the two games as to what WADs are downloadable for which game (strangely, some DOOM II WADs are downloadable for DOOM I, for example) and there is some overlap.

As far as I remember, DOOM 64 has no online functionality whatsoever (though I haven't played it in a little while), but Bethesda still programmed it so that it frequently checks whether you're online. It's bloody infuriating.

Double, triple. quadruple dipping on these.

If they bothered to include local wireless multiplayer, then I would have bought one special edition and three standard copies, but................................ nah.

And this is a rare case where I will be inclined to buy the special edition, but I'm not sure I want to pay an extra US$50 for super duper collector's edition.

Figure the limited physical release for Doom Eternal via LRG is not far behind.

I assume LRG will ask $70 for a standard copy and $250+ for an uber-edition.

Not until the DLC expansions are released. Seeing as they're going to have to use a 32GB cart anyway, it makes no sense to waste one on just the 17.7GB (or so) base game when the two expansions will almost certainly fit on the cartridge as well.

And I think we still have another good year or so ahead of us before the expansions will be released on Switch.

No Xbox?

I don't think LRG even publishes Xbox games.

Annoyingly, they also publish PS4 exclusive physical releases even when a Switch version of the game is available.

I believe the minimum print run for Xbox discs is 50k. I don't believe there are enough Xbox fans, who care about physical games, to sell half that. Meanwhile, Sony has a 5k minimum order and Nintendo has a 3k minimum (for Murican orders).

However I wonder if Doom 3 is with the Expansion or just base Doom 3.

Why would it be anything other than what is already available?

DOOM 3 on Switch is a port of the BFG Edition which already includes the Resurrection of Evil expansion as well as the Lost Mission as standard.

There's no way of even buying the base game anymore as that was only ever released on PC and the original Xbox.

Looks cool but I think the Doom games are too readily available digitally for me to splash on a physical version + shipping to the UK. I've already got and played 1, 2, 64 + 3 on Switch and I have the BFG Edition physically on PS3 which includes Doom 1+2. Not to mention that they've all been added to game pass now too and the floppy disks of the pc version that are somewhere in my loft.

I think there is a Doom Slayers Collection available on Xbox One and PS4, just a normal print run available from normal stores. I think it has Doom 2016 on disc and a download code for 1, 2 and 3.

I do wonder if this LRG release will come with the megawads pre downloaded and included on the cart. If there is parity with the digital versions then the final doom levels will still have to be downloaded through the mods menu I guess.

Having said all that, if they sell the cover sheets for this and Doom 64 separately then I'll happily add it to my order next time I buy a game I actually want and put an empty case on my shelf to commemorate my digital purchases!
