Weirdly I just tried this again now and i’m in! Whooooo!
Not sure what other regions it’s working in but for Australia we’re a go!
EDIT: New players - make sure to go to ‘options -> gameplay’ and select ‘elective mode’! Won’t make a single bit of difference to you for a while, but late game if you start looking at builds and are wondering “how on earth are they using that combination of skills?”, pretty much because of this! Without this it restricts your skill-loadout significantly!
I have always been interested in playing this but never got around to it on PS4. I have two questions regarding playing online. Does it have matchmaking, if so do you have any tips for a new player?
Yes, it has a very effective matchmaking system. You can group up with (up to) 3 other players for rifts, bounties, campaign, etc.. Each player has their own loot table, so there’s no worries about “stealing” loot or trying to divide it fairly.
Tips? Well, I’d start by reading through this thread. There’s tons. And then if you have specific questions, we’ll gladly help.
So as Ryzaerian quite rightly pointed out, adventure mode is indeed unlocked from the start! Just jumped straight into it as a Wizard (always my first class) and then straight into a rift! One thing that didn’t cross my mind is I didn’t/don’t have any companions unlocked (wizards are a bit squishy) so will have to go and investigate if i can unlock those in adventure mode or if I still need to play the campaign. I actually feel a bit strange doing adventure without doing the campaign now - look how Blizzard have conditioned me! - although suspect it may be more ‘Diablo-rust’ with everything being available at once and me forgetting how half of it (namely mordecai’s cube) works! At level 10 with a few legendaries already - it really is good times!
Only issue i’ve noticed so far (playing handheld) is that every time you wake/return to the game it asks you to verify controllers/joycons, and also that the machine itself is running hot - although that may be because it’s so hot here today anyway (currently 34 degs) but curious to see how intensive it is battery wise etc!
@Pink_Floyd Hey! Yep there is matchmaking - at least there is on the other versions so no idea why it wouldn’t be on the switch? Naturally you’ll need an online account - I haven’t subscribed to it and although it acknowledges i’m connected to Blizzards servers whilst playing it classifies me as playing ‘offline’.
In terms of tips, there will undoubtedly be people who know much more about this than me, my general suggestions if you pick it up would be;
1.) Start with the campaign - you’ll see the story, understand what the heck is going on and be eased in with everything slowly explained
2.) Don’t stress about class. You can have multiple characters so can chop, change and also swap items between them - your first character will be the slowest to level, after that it becomes much easier (especially if you have friends playing).
3.) change gear often. You’ll constantly be picking up new things - pay attention to the stats for sure, but also look at added effects or stacking bonuses (if you use multiple pieces from the same set etc)
Ha! I take so long/write so much i’ve been gazumped, but yeah, ask away - someone will be able to help for sure!
2) When gear drops, you can press up on the d-pad to scroll through it and equip it. The green/red arrows will show you how it compares to your current piece. That way you can switch gear on the fly without opening any menus. You’ll be swapping out gear all of the time as you level up.
3) As @BrainOfGrimlock stated, enable Elective Mode (in the options) immediately to give you full build flexibility.
@Ryzaerian it's ok actually, I was being an idiot and not looking in the right place - the followers are all there in Tristram in ad mode waiting for you - just be sure to grab one before you jump into a rift unlike me
I actually think - despite all my prior moaning - I'm going to play through the campaign for a bit just to get back into the groove and remember some stuff. At least with adventure mode unlocked I can jump out and bash through a few rifts too if i need to break it up a bit?
Dude, I’ve seriously played through the campaign like 30 times. Back in 2012, there was no Adventure mode. You just replayed the campaign over and over again while cranking up the difficulty.
So I’ll be rifting and running bounties, with the occasional hour of campaign when I can stomach it. 😁
@Ryzaerian that's too hardcore for me dude - i played it mostly through once on PC at launch and just sacked it off until they added adventure mode/loot patch/rubbished the auction house! I think we can all forgive you if you skip the campaign, you've more than earned it!
Not promising I'm going to go through all campaign chapters, but think it'll get me back into the groove until I'm ready to bounty-rift my face off!
@Spoony_Tech
that's a good question, campaign/adventure ???
generally a campaign has a specific goal in mind, but if there is an option, I'm very curious what they define for both also
"If failure is the greatest teacher, how come we are not the most superior beings in the universe ???"
The campaign is the story. It progresses through 5 Acts. Lots of narrative and cutscenes. You definitely wanna play it at least once.
Adventure Mode is a freeform type of play. You’re free to teleport to any area in the game world. Here you fight through procedurally-generated Nephalem Rifts and Greater Rifts, collect Bounties on specific elites and bosses, and so forth.
Adventure Mode is not DLC. It’s included with the game.
Only thing I'll add - as you may have spotted in some of the earlier convo's - is that until the switch version launched you HAD to do the campaign before adventure mode regardless, they very much see it as post-game content once you've learnt the ropes/seen the story. Guessing the only reason they've removed the restriction now is for people like Ryzaerian - and to a much lesser extent me - who've completed the campaign a trillion times and are comfortable enough in post-game to know where to go. I'd recommend anyone new to ignore adventure mode at first, either until they've finished the campaign, they're comfortable with the mechanics or they're happy to do a lot of wiki-reading to understand what all of the moving parts are/do/mean.
