@MisterMan
Obviously it wouldn't work in online mode. But people won't be playing online on a commute

They do have to, unless they want to kill their game. Nobody wants a portable version that can't be played portably.

Trust me, it'll suspend. They're not idiots. What they did on other consoles is completely irrelevant because other consoles weren't designed to be taken with you and played and shut off on a dime

@Ralizah agreed. it'll probably work like BB's suspend/resume feature when you're offline. but this wasn't available when the game launched, so who knows? However, if you want the true Souls experience, you should play online.

Wow, I didn't expect there to be such a witch hunt for people who DARE to say that the 30 FPS version isn't for them.

I never said that at all. Pay attention if you wish to join in. I said you can clearly see the difference between 30fps and 60fps. Nothing more, nothing less. You seem to want to make this something more than what I have argued.

At no point did I ever tell him that he should not buy Dark Souls. At no point did I ever say 30fps is not for him. In fact, I specifically said that it was me that prefers 60fps over anything.

@KirbyTheVampire You are right. 60 FPS is better and I am sure ALL people know that. But event if they know that they don't care because that does not make the experience worse or unplayable for them.

With that said, people are fed up by the SAME thing said over and over ON EVERY DAMN release of a 3rd party game that is also released on the more powerful consoles.

You have the right to say that in every game thread that you don't care about portability and that you prefer the PS4 or XB1. If you want to stop repeating yourself just make it as your signature and that way you save some time in telling people that you like 60 over 30 and you don't care for portability. That will not make Nintendo release Switch 2.0 with 120hz display and mega ultra processor and 3 GPUs but it will save you the time

I've hardly ever said that, and I only started talking about it here because I wasn't sure yet if the game ran at 60 or 30. There are plenty of other people FAR more guilty of this than I am.

@Ralizah I do realize why people get annoyed, I just think the reaction was a little overly toxic. I think people are perfectly capable of voicing their disagreements without pulling out things like "Hurr durr no 60 FPS, no buy, hurr durrr", in order to belittle each other. This is a pretty unimportant argument in the grand scheme of things, after all.

@Lethal I was referring to people like myself and @MFD, not you. I didn't even mention you in that part of the post. I can plainly see that pretty much all you've done is post gameplay comparisons and say that the difference between 30 and 60 FPS is noticeable whether people say it is or not.

And for the record, when I said "a person who dares to say the 30 FPS version isn't for them", I was talking about it not being for myself. Obviously I would be a complete fool to say that the 30 FPS version isn't for other people. I was talking about me specifically.

My fault. I thought you were speaking directly to me.

FPS is a case of to each their own. As with just about every multiplat, people will buy the Switch version if they want portability, or don't have any other choice. Others will buy it on another platform where the performance is better.

I have only played Dark Souls 3 finished it with relative ease (struggled in the Catacombs though!!) really enjoyed it but do fans of the series think I would enjoy this?? What are the major differences gameplay wise??

bluemage1989

MisterMan

@bluemage1989 if you liked DS3 you'll enjoy the first one. Most people would agree that the first entry is the best. The mechanics in 3 were a lot better, but the first one had the best lore and world design. I highly recommend it. DS3 had a lot of fan service, so it would be interesting to go back and play the first one and pick up the references that were used in the 3rd one.

@MisterMan

I felt DS 3 had a perfectly balanced difficulty (for me anyway) can I expect something similar for DS1??

I really enjoy starting a series at the end. I treat the predecessors almost like flashbacks and also don't have to wait years to see where the story goes so picking up on references will be ideal for me.

Also I hear a lot about blight town what is that all about??

Ok, That is one NICE price!!! And I have never played Dark Souls games only watched them on YouTube so that is extremely good!!!

MisterMan

@bluemage1989 well, the difficulty balance in the first one is a little different because your progression route is very open. Whereas the 3rd one had a pretty linear path you went down, the first one has several options to go down. If you stick with the easiest (maybe follow a guide), I think you'll find the difficulty pretty balanced, with some rough areas/bosses. But if you end up doing the tough sections first, you'll find the easier areas very easy. So the difficulty balance isn't quite as good as DS3, but I actually like the more open option in the first one and it makes subsequent playthroughs more interesting because you can do areas in a different order.

Blightown is usually talked about due to it's poor performance in FPS and it's a tough area (poison, falls to death, etc...). It's kind of the first "tough" area of the game and can serve as a gear and stat check.

Sounds cool being more open I think I could live difficulty spikes as a trade off. Okay feeling very excited now!! I got chills the first time I played DS3 expecting more of them now!!

Gameplay wise, DS1 is a bit slower and takes weight into account more. Not much difference though. It doesn't have those fancy weapon arts from DS3 either.

The huge difference is how the world is designed. DS1 is the least linear in the series. The world is more intricate and interwoven, as opposed to the large sequential areas of DS3 and Bloodborne.
Part of that difference is noted by the fact that there's no warping between bonfires in DS1 until late in the game. You always have to walk to the place you're going. Which adds cool new aspects to the gameplay, like having to decide whether to light a bonfire at the bottom of a massive pit so you can heal or just avoid doing so so you can use your death to return to the top of that pit. It works incredibly well in DS1 and it was my biggest disappointment with the rest of the series that they abandoned this approach and just had warping between different areas that are miles apart.

It's dangerous to go alone! Stay at home.

JoyBoy

@Dezzy Interesting. Reading your post makes me glad we got the first game instead of DS3. Sounds like this game is more up my alley, I got very little patience for strict linear experiences lately.

This is my brother's favorite series of all time. This coming to Switch is huge. It's like 2018's Skyrim.

Slowly but surely, the 3rd parties are getting on board.

I'll need to beat DKC Tropical Freeze in 3 weeks though, if I am to jump into Dark Souls on release day. Shouldn't be a problem, although I was hoping to spend some time in the time trials again.
