This inferior version has too many noticeable downgrades to sell. It's a trash port. All the Switch gets are trash ports. The Switch is dead and officially deemed the Wii U 2.0. /s
It's a collection of remakes of PS1 games with highly stylised visuals. Anyone who perceives this as some sort of graphical set piece is, quite frankly, an idiot whose brain should be donated to somebody who could make better use of it.
I used to play these games (especially 3, which I remember being the best at the time) on my cousin's PS1 back in the day (the discs would have been burned, no doubt ). I look forward to grabbing the trilogy tomorrow.
"Gee, that's really persuasive. Do you have any actual points to make other than to essentially say 'me Tarzan, physical bad, digital good'?"
Honestly? I prefer the original Crash bandicoot 2 graphics in the first stage (the one where it rains). They dumbed down the color palette (probably because they thought it would have been cool to do so in a stage with rain) but it just look sad annd depressing this way. The original CB2 game reminded me more of a "hand drawn" art style and I prefer it because of that.
But otherwise this one looks better than I thought at first I admit.
I was like "I want this game NOW" when I saw the first game, then I saw Turtle woods from the second game and I said to myself "maybe on sale. MAYBE"
CB2 is my favourite CB game because of how GREAT it looks still today. They improved everything else but ruined what I really liked the most
I used to be a ripple user like you, then I took The Arrow in the knee
I got my preorder copy early and recorded some footage. Already owned the PS4 version and honestly it holds up really well.
The loading screens are way quicker, the initial Cutscene of crash going from old crash to new is now skippable, the game is slightly fuzzier and a bit jaggier but everything else is still in tact.
Platforming may be slightly tighter or that could be my imagination and the "Spyro" code does nothing on Switch whereas it shows the reignited trilogy trailer on PS4.
I was expecting a review, a review embargo doesn't make sense here. I wanna know how it holds up, because I also have an Xbox One and I have to preorder one of them today in order to get a 10 € discount for future purchases on my usual shop. It has to be today and I expected to read a review in time, but now I don't know.
Having played the Trilogy on PS4, I can say this is a good collection of enjoyable platform games. But it's really far from Nintendo standards, if you're looking for something like that.
@Moroboshi876
As someone who owns both versions as mentioned above, they're great fun as long as you have some sort of affinity for old styled 3d platformers (although Crash is more linear).
Based on the track record NL has for reviews, i anticipate they will score the trilogy an 8. Maybe a 9.
@Garamond
Don't hold your breath just yet. They removed the Spyro trailer Easter egg from the Switch release of this game. This was clearly intentional and whether you want to take it as "they're keeping it a secret" or "it's genuinely not coming" is up to you.
@Coach_A It's not a matter of the games' quality itself, I played some CB1 on my cousin's PlayStation back in the day. What I don't want is to buy Switch version "for the portability" if Xbox One's version (which should be as good as PS4's) is clearly better.
Honestly unless you have the X, go with the Switch Version
I don't see myself going back to the PS4 version now. Plays at the same frame rate, but with faster loading times on Switch. Resolution is lower, but not as low as something like Doom can reach. Anti aliasing is also seemingly absent which means some jaggies are present, but honestly whilst you're stuck into the gameplay, you wouldn't notice any real differences unless you were trying really hard to not pick.
There are a few gameplay videos floating around YouTube now as well. That way you can get a feel for how it looks and plays. 30fps on all consoles i believe. Only reaches 60 on the PC version, but again that's not really a problem. The only thing I'm yet to really dig into is portable mode, but in docked it's honestly a lot closer to the PS4 version than it possibly should be. Think of it in the same way Yooka Laylee compares with the other platforms if that's any help. Lower resolution, some changed textures and reduced effects, but the same game and just as playable
