I gotta admit the Orchestral soundtrack stretch goal struck me as stupid, but not enough to remove the money I gave if I backed it. (Disclaimer: haven't backed it).
The kickstarter might hit $2 million by the end of today.
Doubtful. The campaign seems to have pleateued at about a $1,000 per hour. I don't know they'll receive as much as $2 million total, but it'll take a week or more. Once we're in the final 24 hours of donation we might see another $25k pledged, but I think this is the most we can expect.
Where do you live? It's still 10:30 PM CST and pledges are still trucking in. I'm sure we'll see it reach $2m in 4 hours at the latest.
I'm seeing this go up about a 1000 every 10mins. What I want to see is if it will get as many backers as Mighty number 9. It will need another 30k and that might be pushing it.

If I was only ever able to have Monster Hunter and EO games in the future, I would be a happy man.
You do know that's 24,000 a day right? Just by that logic it will get another million.
That assumes donations will remain remain at that figure, which they won't. Over the next few days, with each passing hour, the donations will decrease until finally it's maybe just a few hundred bucks.
I don't doubt that this project will reach £2 million. I just don't expect it to do so at its current rate.
At the very least, some time tomorrow they're guaranteed to get $2 million at the general rate they're going. Even if it winds up being 11:59 pm.
Yeah, if not today, then it's more likely to be tomorrow than any other day. Dare I say that it might hit $3 million by June 16?
The funny thing about predictions is that without an insane amount of insight into the situation at hand and all the kinds of people involved with the project, not to mention whatever anyone involved might do in an attempt to give some life back to the rate of increase (and I'm sure Playtonic has plenty up their sleeve at this moment) there's no way of formulating a proper idea of what the number is gonna look like six weeks from now. It could be as low as $2 million because donations stopped shortly after hitting that point, or it could be as high as $20 million because someone in the show business got some serious publicity for this project. (I can think of a few talk show hosts that might be interested, but that's not exactly a likely event, nor is it a likely outcome to that event.) At this point in time, however, we can rest assured that this game IS coming and will have many wonderful features to play with.
Now what I wanna know is "why all the hate for an orchestrated soundtrack?" I don't get it. Live instruments >>>>>>>>>>>>> Synthetic noise. It's not even a fair comparison. Between a synthetic electric guitar sound on a keyboard and an actual overdrive guitar, there's no question that played well, the real guitar just sounds better. Don't believe me? Have a listen:
Synthetic guitar:
Electric guitar:
It's no contest.
On a less prodding note, anyone notice the Conker reference in the stretch goal graphic? About how they're going to use any extra funding to ensure that "the game is polished to the Nth degree." Need a reminder? "Oh, great. That's just what I need: a burgeois, big-bollocked boiler!"

Umm... you DO know that the project is currently about $200 away from that, right?
When was the last first-party (if not, major) 3D platformer featuring original characters to have come out? I think it's either 2005's Psychonauts or 2008's LittleBigPlanet.
Knack, 2013.
Is it any good/great?

I thought it was pretty good myself. But that's just because platformers and action games are my bread and butter.
Check out my YouTube channel if you love gaming, and Nintendo (especially Metroid) I think you'll enjoy my videos. :)

EDIT: Nope, the project just hit $2 million.
I meant £2 million, not $2 million. My mistake.
Oh. Well, yeah, that'll be difficult to get to any time soon. That's over $3 Million USD. But they might pick up near the end, though I think that's unlikely unless a big stretch goal hits.
In response to the synthetic criticism, it's just as foolish to hate synthetic instruments and then make a comparison with a 10+ year old game. Synthetic instruments are much more sophisticated now and are more capable of imitating orchestras and producing more sounds than an orchestra.
The idea that one is better is ridiculous anyway. Despite being similar, orchestra and synthetic are apples and oranges. As mentioned earlier, each is capable of producing sounds the other cannot. As such, synthetic sounds may be more appropriate for certain games or sections.

So now with 39,121 backers piling up $2,033,193, that's about $52 for every backer. This definitely further proves that thousands of people care for this type of game, to the point that they'll give money towards it.

That's not the point. I, for one, would prefer a synthetic soundtrack, and not because I want a synthesised guitar sound. The same way a synthesizer can't really reproduce the sounds and dynamics of actual guitar playing, an orchestra can't reproduce the instrumentation on the original renditions of tracks like "Forest Interlude" and "Stickerbrush Symphony".
None of them are automatically better than the other; they're just different.

Alright, fair enough. I see the flaw in my argument, but the thing is, just because the soundtrack is orchestrated doesn't mean synthetic sounds can't be involved. Either you add then in later or more likely you put them on a keyboard to recreate the same sound.
I agree it's a preference of style. Synthetic and orchestrated music are both great and produce fantastic music in their own ways. But the Kickstarter started out with Grant Kirkhope and David Wise working on the music. They style loses some of their unique traits orchestrated (More so Wise than Kirkhope). Basically, if Jungle Challenge doesn't sound like the preview for Jungle Challenge on the KS page after it has been orchestrated, I'd rather we don't get an orchestrated soundtrack.
