@meppi64 I picked up ENTER THE GUNGEON and am finding the controls a little uncomfortable. You mentioned customising them?

Also gents, any tips or explanation of what I am supposed to be doing in each run would be appreciated. I'm not seeming to find any items, have never been good a finding my way around maze/maps and feel incredibly under-powered. I get that is probably the norm for beginners but be good to get a sense of what sort of aspects of each run I should be striving for. Cheers.

@Lroy When you first start out your character controls differently to how it will after about a dozen or so runs, then it changes into a traditional feeling twin stick shooter, where left stick moves/right stick aims. The first few runs though your always aims towards the direction your moving with the L stick. This is supposed to be a way to ease newcomers into twin stick shooters but has had the the opposite effect for some. Newcomers get used to how it feels and then confused when it changes while those who are used to traditional twin stick controls struggle with the initial set up. Have a look here

https://www.nintendolife.com/forums/nintendo-switch/enter_the_...

As well as some tips there is comments from the developer I found which explains why the set up is like that.

@Lroy I suggest you to map shoot on zr at least, the rest you can set as you prefer: this way you don't have movement and shooting on the same side, which I found uncomfortable... I'll check my config asap and report back

The original fire has died and gone, but the riot inside moves on.

Man, Blazing Star is superb! Which ship is everyone running with? I haven't decided yet!

@Lroy Of course!

Here's my control setup:
Untitled

Move with L-stick and aim with R-stick like a normal twin stick shooter game is obvious.
Putting dodge roll on ZL and fire on ZR will feel the most natural. You can put them on L and R as well if you prefer naturally.
Interact on B, to open locks/chests, buy stuff from the shop, press buttons, roll barrels, etc.
Y to reload as it's close to B.
X and Y to quickly scroll through your weapons back and forth.
I have item use on L since it makes the most sense as it's the item in your bottom left corner.
R for blanks. (the blue shells that cancel out all bullets on screen when used. Good for when you're in an impossible spot)
I put map on down on the D-pad since it's very easy to hold this one down while scrolling through the map with the R-stick to select another room to warp there with B.

The first dozen or more runs will be spent unlocking the more basic stuff.
People stuck in the dungeon like shopkeepers and the like. You'll slowly be able to free them and they will join the main hub of the game.
Most weapons and gadgets will be found in chests. (brown chest are mostly garbage, although you might still want to open them at first). If you don't have a key, you can shoot chests to destoy them and with a bit (lots) of luck, you'll get something out of it anyway. Or you get junk which you can pick up. (Which can also surpass you )

Once you have picked up a random item or weapon in a run, it'll get added to your item pool for any run you do next.
The shiny green item like things are used to buy new items and weapons in the shop (that opens up when the shopkeepers are rescued) and then addd to your pool.
There's a ton of secrets in there as well, but those will be revealed as you play, I wouldn't mind them right now.

A good beginner character is the marine or the convict I think.
The marine has an extra layer of armour so the first hit will take of his helmet.
The convict has both a pistol and a shotgun from the start as well as a molotov cocktail, so that should give you a decent starter pack.

If you can defeat bosses without getting hit you'll get extra stuff, so try to play a bit conservatively if you're going for that.

The game feels really tough at first, but it's one of those that needs to click for you and then it really opens up. Bit like Isaac in that way, at least for me. As I wasn't liking that one at all for the first 2-3 hours or so.
Just wait till you start picking up some crazy weapons like the Ghostbusters proton pack! or Bayonetta's gun, the NES zapper or even a big shell that shoots shotguns. lol

@GrailUK for the high score the best ship is Aryustailm, you can use to charge shot to kill chains of enemies at once for maximum score.

Yep the Aryustailm ship is the way to go. I just scored 595k by the end of the first boss fight with around 2.30 left on the clock. I reckon 650k to 700k is doable by the end of the stage. Like Pulstar there doest seem to be any random elements so it's all going to come down to figuring out the best times to release the charge shot for maximizing combos.

Superb game!

Psyvariar Restoration heading to Switch
(Must admit...I'm not sure what this is, but sounds like a HD update maybe?)

@GrailUK Just saw this myself.
Not the biggest fan of the series, but I'm glad it's coming over as well.
It might be a compilation or just a remake of one of the later titles. No idea.

I was just playing some Enter the Gungeon and unlocked a weapon that brought a smile to my face.
It's the pink plasma laser from Raiden 2/DX!

@OorWullie Glad to be of help, man. By the way, are we able to update the leaderboard ourselves if need be?

@GrailUK Ooh, I haven't played Psyvariar, but I'm a little familiar to its graze mechanic somewhat by playing Kenta Cho's rRootage. And that experience has indirectly helped me be more aggressive in dodging bullets. It would probably help me out in my Castle of Shikigami III game, due to the graze>multiplier mechanic, but I haven't gone back to it yet. Anyway, I hope it's a collection.

@meppi64 Now that's a cool reference!

@wasilewski Due to other commitments, I've not been able to play it aside from loading it up for a single run. Will certainly try and jump on it in the coming days. I need the practice as that run I mentioned left me way, way, way outside the top 100 ☺️ Which colour ship are people recommending we use?

@wasilewski Hmm...slow progress. I've watched a couple of videos of using Aryustailm, but man, it was my least fave ship lol! But I'm learning. I think I've picked something up that these videos miss. If you plan on getting the event icon with the Japanese text, you can charge the Sword, unleash it, pick up the event icon, hold fire ready for the next sword while you kill stuff, and unleash the next sword when the event icon flies away, so you effectively have no downtime! But, leads me to a couple of questions.
1) Is it better to ignore the event icons and let them stack up?
2) Do you have to farm that last boss like in the video? That's gonna take some doing
3) Why is my level 2 score so low!? lol

All in all, a wonderful game, this caravan mode is making me play totally differently to how I would normally (so that's a good thing) but I do feel like I am missing something.

Fellas, only likely to be able to afford one from the following and then gonna have to push everything to the wishlist for at least the next few weeks, perhaps longer. Any guidance would be much appreciated.

  • AERO FIGHTERS 3
  • STAR FORCE
  • STEREDENN: BINARY STARS
  • DANMAKU 3 UNLIMITED

The Mrs. has starting taking again about picking up a second Switch, so funds need to be pocketed to put towards that. On that note, does anyone have any experience of doing a transfer of their game save data and profile from one Switch to another?

Need to decide who gets the new Switch. The Wife and Son (they'd be less put out if any game activity or save data messed up or got lost in the transfer) or me. I'm all up for having the new untouched by child's hands System but am very anxious about doing the system transfer in case my save data/activity log record gets lost.

@Lroy I'm skint at the mo so I haven't played Ster or Dan yet so I wouldn't like to say. But the system transfer seems straightforward enough.

@Lroy @GrailUK the Aryustailm ship is definitely the best ship for high scores, in fact it was designed for getting high scores: Untitled

The best way to get a high score is the collect everything the enemies drop.

Farming the first boss is very difficult, but is doable. I just kill him very quickly, usually within 10 seconds.

On level 2 you have to try and time your charge shots so you can kill a good wave of enemies with Aryustailm's charged sword beam thing. Again, collect absolutely everything.

@GrailUK Thanks for getting back to me mate. Truth be told, I'm skint too but can't help myself, lol! Lost all grip on games spending with the Switch launch last year and it has continued on into 2018. Definitely going to have to curb it and if we do get another Switch for the household, it will make sense to actually impose some kind of game buying ban for some months to alleviate the guilt and debt, lol!
