I know most people are excited over the Switch 2, but what are some of the things you are dreading?

Because not everything can be awesome... and can you imagine if Nintendo decided to not release a Mario platformer this gen, and go the Game Cube route of try something different

I'm dreading the FOMO of not being able to play the new Mario Kart until whenever I get a Switch 2 😔

Thank you Nintendo for giving us Donkey Kong Jr Math on Switch Online

PikminMarioKirby

I'm dreading with being stuck with boring UI another 7-8 years

I'm a little concerned about the possibility it will rely too heavily on DLSS on low resolution and upscaling it for AAA third party games. I'll just stick to PS5 for those if that's the case and it looks bad.

I dread having to read and hear more kvetching about how awful the thing is because of it's pricing. Like, I get it, I truly do, but ffs can we dial it back a bit.

@N00BiSH Hey, at least if it's anything like the Switch 1- people will stop being upset about the pricing a few years down the road. The Switch 1 also had people complaining about prices.

I dread Nintendo not opening up more cartridge sizes for publishers, leading to a dearth of physical releases.

Hoping soooo much it’s just something they’re doing for launch to streamline things initially, but low-key understanding that this is just the way most media is going.

Nintendo’s multiplayer games going deep into microtransactions territory so like World’s support being comparable to Tour.

I’m dreading just how much I’m gonna end up spending, lol. Not complaining about the price, but rather knowing there are going to be some awesome games putting a huge hurting on my wallet.

We already got a new Mario Kart, DK, and Pokemon just in these next few months. Next they’re gonna drop either a new main like Zelda game, or an all star bundle, just you wait😭

I'm mostly dreading that Nintendo's gonna stubbornly refuse to do anything when their B-tier games don't sell as well, which I still think is incredibly likely. I want game series like Metroid, Pikmin, Star Fox, Rhythm Heaven, Xenoblade etc to be more popular, and barring maybe Prime 4, I'm doubting it will happen now.

@kkslider5552000 I think Star Fox is likely the only one you need concern yourself about. I'd bet quite a bit of money the rest of the franchises you listed will see new entries. And we're getting a new Rhythm Heaven! I'm sure some Switch 2 exclusive shennanigans will appear for it.

That mouse mouse will ruin the next Splatoon or Zelda game.

(And that people will stop complaining about the price of games).

@kkslider5552000 The only one that's really at risk is Star Fox. The other games you mentioned are practically thriving(or in RH's case, going to thrive). Besides, Metroid and Pikmin are the most popular they've ever been in this phase of Nintendo.

This is my fear too, that Nintendo will add the mouse mode to their games as a mandatory gimmick which will make them worse. I mean, take a look at Skyward Sword: it was an otherwise great Zelda game that was ruined by the horribly imprecise and fickle motion controls. And the alternative non-motion control scheme they added to the Switch version wasn't much better, since it was pretty awkward due to the fact that the game wasn't built to be played with a regular controller.

If anything my concern is the reverse of what @Polvasti is saying. I'm slightly worried that developers won't build games around mouse mode or the camera. Especially as games these days have huge budgets and so tend to be less experimental and less tied to a specific platform

@skywake I think the Mouse mode has a higher chance for devs to utilize than the camera. I don't see many devs using the camera, especially given that it's not built-in to the console and requires people to buy it separately.

I don't mind adding mouse mode to games where it actually is a natural fit, like strategy games. I'm only afraid that since it's the biggest new gimmick of Switch 2, they're gonna force it to games where it doesn't belong and where it might make things worse. Just like they forced motion controls to Skyward Sword and made it much less fun to play than it would've been with a traditional control scheme.

@Polvasti
Hard disagree from me on Skyward Sword. And for good measure I'd also throw in the pointer and motion sections in Super Mario Galaxy and the touch input of the DS Zelda's. Also the existence of Nintendo Land. These things have made these games harder to replicate but they're also the kind of novel experiences I play games for

Not saying all games have to pull out the party tricks. Just saying that without some risk taking, with a hardware feature or not, what is even the point?

I didn't mind the pointer sections in SMG because they were better implemented and not as essential to the overall game. But the impreciseness of the motion controls made Skyward Sword incredibly frustrating; for example, there's one section in the first dungeon where you're supposed to swing from one vine to another using the motion controls, and I literally died like 50 times before I managed to pull it off. Similarly, the bits where you were flying in the sky with your bird and trying to rise higher were hell to play; on the Switch version I had to turn off the motion controls for those flying sections because they were so uintuitive and prone to error. So the decision by Nintendo to show off their gimmick made an otherwise good game a chore to play, and that's not how a Zelda game should be.
