I would love to see some form of trophy/achievement system - possibly “coins”, such as Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum. I think that would be fitting with the themes of Nintendo mainstays. With that said, I highly doubt this will be a feature since Nintendo is unapologetically themselves and ignore current modern gaming trends. I guess we will see, though.
I’m very excited for the Switch 2 direct and what games are going to be revealed for it. We will obviously get a new Mario Kart game, but other than that, it’s hard to predict what will be announced. I have a feeling we will see The Legend of Zelda in some facet - possibly a full blown remake of Twilight Princess. Who knows. I can’t wait.
@MrCarlos46 I doubt we'll see any replacement for the Gold reward coins any time soon. I think @Kraven was just suggesting they should add Trophies/Achievements and call it 'Coins' with the colours similar to how PlayStation Trophies work - you get your Platinum 'Coin' for getting all the trophies.
For what it's worth I don't think they would call it Coins as that implies you can spend them on stuff and would cause a bit of confusion with existing Gold and Platinum coins. I would like to see some form of Achievements system though - I'm not an achievement hunter or anything, but it is quite satisfying do here the 'ding' of an achievement or trophy every so often while playing.
@MrCarlos46 I'd say it's unlikely. Giving a financial reward (points, discount etc.) for buying a game is one thing, but I doubt they'd give rewards for just playing the game - it would be too easy to abuse. Everyone would be borrowing games from friends just to earn rewards on the achievements and playing on multiple accounts etc. I could also see people complaining that they didn't get their reward because the Achievement glitched or something.
We may have a better impression after the SW1 Direct airs tomorrow, but do you think its presence hints at Switch 2 not releasing as early as June after all, but instead perhaps later in the year? I was on the June bandwagon until today, but now I'm not so sure...
@imagazelle If the Switch 2 ends up coming out in the second half of this year, the latest it could come out is in November, the earliest being September. I’m more on the September release bandwagon in the case of an H2 2025 release.
