@drumnbayes Q3 release seems too late, I think release until May - June is more possible. Also, we shouldn't rule out January for the Switch 2 reveal. The first half of 2025 doesn't have any first party games with confirmed dates, and I doubt titles such as Metroid 4 and the new Pokemon legends game will be released only on Switch, seems such a wasted opportunity for a dual launch.
@skywake@MrCarlos46 Have you watched Kit and Krysta's video? They worked in Nintendo's marketing. I thought the holiday season was just a factor. But as they explain their experience at Nintendo, they describe the gravity of the holiday season and why Nintendo would not want to reveal a new console before January at this point. The video does an amazing job of explaing and addressing speculation factors we see people bring up. It's a fascinating video.
@WoomyNNYes The video made me curious if some of that was Nintendo in general or just Nintendo of America where they worked. Below are some quarterly profits numbers for Nintendo worldwide:
December 31, 2023 4.054B
September 30, 2023 2.318B
June 30, 2023 3.362B
March 31, 2023 2.320B
December 31, 2022 4.527B
September 30, 2022 2.530B
June 30, 2022 2.373B
March 31, 2022 3.229B
Notice that the December quarter is the biggest but the quarters which had huge games like Pokemon Arceus and TotK aren't nearly as far behind. Considering the December quarter also often has massive games, this is less of a true seasonal bias than it seems at first glance (one of the years above the December quarter is 1/3 of the profits, one year it is 40% — big, but not the majority and not even twice the average of a 'normal' quarter, especially not a quarter with a big release.
But! That graph would be massively more skewed if you only restrict to profits which come from the US. I don't have it on-hand, but I've seen graphs before and the US holiday sales jump is ridiculous so I could imagine Nintendo of America being fixated on the idea.
@skywake Only one can wonder what else Nintendo has in its ‘list of things to do’ before announcing the Switch 2
I don't think you're hearing me. I want a better portable device and Nintendo isn't giving a clear timeline for when that's happening. So I'm tapping out. Getting a Steam Deck and will be expanding my Steam library over the next few months
The only reason I bring up the holiday sales bit is because I'm being a holiday consumer here. Reacting to what Nintendo is putting down by investing into a different platform. Holiday sales are a thing because people usually allow themselves to spend a bit more during this window. I always tend to do this. But there are two sides to the holiday sales period equation
For people looking for which platform to invest into? Nintendo isn't making the medium term very clear. If I knew Switch 2 was early April, had full BC and was getting some neat looking titles on day 1? Maybe I'd hold out. But as it stands it doesn't look like they're in any rush. This thing could be fairly late next year and all I see on the horizon are ports. So I choose to put my holiday cash elsewhere

@skywake I get it You are in the market for upgrading and Switch is a dead end for you at the moment. I'm sure you'll enjoy the Steam Deck (looks a little too clunky for my taste.) but makes sure you give us your thoughts on it. I for one appreciate your takes. Let me know which games you are looking forward to grabbing (and I'll kep an eye out for them later on Switch 2.) I'm riding the Switch train till it crashes into the station lol. Brothership looks great. Might get DKC if I have money, but either way, Xenoblade X in March!!! YES!! Still have MP4 and those rumoured Zelda remasters to go too.
I never drive faster than I can see. Besides, it's all in the reflexes.
@GrailUK@skywake I'm probably also going to spend less Nintendo money this season because of the lack of announcements but for slightly different reasons.
What if Switch 2 suddenly comes out in March and costs more than I think? I will likely spend less money on games in general this holiday because I don't know what to prepare for financially for next year.
What if there is some obnoxious separated duel version of certain games? I'm hoping not but it makes me a bit less inclined to buy games right now.
What if Switch 2 is 90% back-compatible but not 100%? (Similar to how cloud Backup works for most games but not some very important games). That makes me feel like I should spend more time on my backlog rather than buy new games.
I have guesses, but if I had actual answer to all these simple questions such as price/timeline/basic properties, I wouldn't have to be cautious 'just in case'. And me being cautious translates to less money for Nintendo this season.

I think this is how backwards compatibility works on PS5 for PS4 games (where some PS4 games don’t work) and Xbox One games on Xbox Series X (where games that require Kinect don’t work)
@FishyS It's totally understandable that folk don't want to spend money in the midst of uncertainty. I guess Japan are reading from a different script than us (or they have much fewer Youtubers / 'insiders' grifting on the back of them. Dunno. Their manufactured click hype is starting to suck the joy out of Nintendo being Nintendo for me.)
Well, another unfruitful week with "Youtubers", "leakers", "insiders" & co 100% claiming that Switch Pro or "Switch 2" will be revealed or coming during this week for the 317th straight week.
They got wrong on every times, yet they continues with their chanting "next week!" and "next week!" again and again. This is really pathetic and tragic now. The scariest thing remains is that too many falls for it for every time!
I feels more and more unsure if Nintendo indeed will announce "Switch 2" before april-2025 since Switch and its games still sells very well and it without even having one price-cut for once too... Not impossible that it gets delayed. I still believes that it will launch during 2025, but perhaps later than sep-2025, like before holidays 2025, or not?
Nintendo is so unpredictable. They just announced Xenoblade X during a tuesday outside a direct. I wouldn't gets surprised if "Switch 2" is actually a non-hybrid console, that it reminds more about a Wii or Wii U than a Switch...

Nintendo fused their home console and portable console departments in 2013, and the Switch’s hybrid format proved to work well, so it doesn’t look like they’ll do separate units again
@GrailUK
The amusing thing is probably one of the first things I'll do is install CEMU and Dolphin on it. So I can play all of those games that never made it to Switch like Wind Waker HD, Twilight Princess HD, NES Remix, Yoshi's Woolly World, Rhythm Heaven, PunchOut!!, Prime 3
Obviously I'll also be grabbing some higher tier stuff and/or taking advantage of the higher spec. I still want to finish Hogwarts Legacy which I have on Steam and I'll probably jump into Stray and RDR2 again. Also the Dirt Rally games, always a good time. And as I said HiFi Rush and similar titles. But yeah, lots of stuff I was waiting on Switch 2 for that I could just do now
@Keman
To be fair most of the chatter around this last week was based on stock market jitters. There appeared as though there was going to be a significant announcement of some kind. And there was a significant announcement, Nintendo Music. It just wasn't the Switch 2 which, frankly, was a far more likely announcement than a service that seemingly has come out of nowhere
In terms of your predictions here, you're just straight up wrong. The two things we know without a shadow of a doubt is that this is a hybrid console of specs somewhere between PS4 Pro and XB Series S and that it will be announced before the end of March 2025. We also know with some confidence that they're already manufacturing units. All of which puts a box around what predictions are reasonable and what isn't. Yours fall outside of that I feel
And yes, I know I'm saying this immediately after saying I'm tapping out and going somewhere else. But the reason I'm doing so is because there's no clear timeline or outline here. It might still launch in early April with a couple of fantastic exclusives that I'm super into the look of. But I don't know that. Currently Nintendo is hoping that consumers like myself will hold out for a product releasing at an unknown time with an unknown line-up of software. I'm sure many will, but it's a big ask

It's going to be interesting to see what Nintendo says about it at the investor meeting. I'm expecting just a repeat of the comment made in May (still on track to have an announcement by the end of the fiscal year) and then they just get on with their normal holiday season marketing.
They probably should've specified they meant "early 2025" when they said an announcement was coming this fiscal year. It seemed pretty reasonable to expect an announcement this year, but it doesn't look like that's happening, so it's been over 5 months of empty speculation and hype. I wonder what their game plan is here?
You know what they say. All toasters, toast, toast!
