@MrCarlos46 Yeah it definitely seems like we’ll just be hearing about it early next year, especially since this was just re-stating that we’re getting the reveal before April 2025.

With that statement, it just kills any potential for a 2024 Switch 2 reveal, especially since Nintendo already started holiday marketing on Friday.
@MrCarlos46 Yeah Christmas/Holiday marketing it pretty much in full swing at this point with all the advertisements and stuff, that seems to be the focus now over a new console.

Seeing as to how Nintendo wants to get one more successful holiday season for the Switch this year, makes sense as to why they will want to focus on their holiday marketing right now than anything related to the Switch 2.
We’ll probably first get a Switch 2 announcement in January and a reveal + showcase in April. Maybe release in May or June.
The Switch has sold 146m units as of November 2024
Nintendo will need to sell like 8m more to outsell the DS, but if they really want to dominate the market, they would need to sell 10m more or beyond to outsell the PS2 and become best-selling console of all time, which may also play into why Nintendo is already starting holiday marketing ahead of time

The financial update didn't mention PS2 but it did very specifically update a page comparing Switch sales to DS sales. 8 million more to become the top selling Nintendo console. And unlike PS2, Nintendo won't randomly change the total. If Nintendo cares about totals at all, I think passing DS is their real goal.
@MrCarlos46 Sure, all I meant is we have zero indication Nintendo cares about PS2 comparisons, especially since no one seems to agree on how many PS2s were sold (155 million? 160 million? There are several claims). Beating DS, however, is something they can try for and would be a concrete win so it wouldn't surprise me if they were eyeing that.

Even if the Switch doesn’t become best-selling console of all time in the gaming market in general, at least it will be on the Nintendo side
My take on this. It seems as though H2 2025 is increasingly likely. If so, IMO, this is starting to have shades of the Wii -> Wii U about it
People make a lot of retrospective reasons for why the Wii U failed but, IMO, the main one is that they were too slow to transition. The Wii brand had faded and by the time they launched HD consoles and tablets were no longer interesting products on the market. And worse, they were not ready for the launch
A H2 2025 release for Switch 2, they're pushing their luck a bit. And if they had to delay it that long to get their software lineup in order that doesn't bode well
For my part I'm just going to keep refreshing the Steam Deck website and then once I have that in my hands probably not think about Switch 2 much until they announce it
So I was a bit skeptical about a potential Summer release but then I saw this video from Gamexplain which makes some good arguments.
The tl;dr on this video is basically that there's been a trend in the time between reveal and release narrowing over time (which makes sense because the internet and social media is spreading information faster and faster and making people more and more impatient). A Q1 reveal and Q2 release would fit this current trend. Additionally, launching the console mid-year essentially gave the Switch a double boom, with one on release in March and a second in the holiday, they may be looking to replicate that with the Switch 2 (especially if, like with the Switch in 2017, they have tentpole releases to anchor both periods. The Switch had BotW at launch and Mario Odyssey in the holidays, the Switch 2 could do the same with Mario Kart and 3D Mario). So based on these patterns I could see something like a February reveal and June release. I'm not 100% on it and I do think there could be delays that shift it to the holidays (it seems like there are numerous internal delays that are causing the weird silence we're currently experiencing), but there is a distinct possibility for sure.
@Bolt_Strike Yeah, the earlier in the year a console launches, more consoles can be sold, which boosts games sales for the holiday season. I think Nintendo did so well with the Switch launch in March 2017, I don't think Nintendo wants to wait for august or later in the year to launch the console.
(I guess I have some bias, though. I really don't want to wait till later in the year. gimme gimme gimme😆)

If it can’t release in March or April but still have an H1 2025 release, give it a release in May or June
@MarioBrickLayer
If that was their strategy it was a bad one because the clown show is only going to accelerate I suspect. I do wonder if Nintendo will possibly alter their RRP in the US in anticipation of increased tariffs
