Following Nintendo discontinuing My Nintendo Gold Points and saying Switch Game Vouchers won’t work for Switch 2 games, they didn’t even say whether or not they would be replaced. Possible chance of Switch 2 games at $70, but if Nintendo doesn’t announce a new discount program or new vouchers just for Switch 2 game, it’s possible Nintendo will not offer any way of saving for Switch 2 digital content except when they do discounts or sales.

@skywake I mean I don't get what that's trying to prove. I know the Switch 2 is larger than the DS screen-wise. It's mainly about not separating the top and bottom screens that really throws me off. On your steamdeck, having them side by side like that just doesn't read right visually for me. There'd need to be a gap between the screens or something.

There is plenty of space for a screen gap. Just need a grip that holds the Switch vertically. And that kind of grip would be far cheaper and far more practical than adding an entirely seperate detachable second screen

I think people here care way more about a dual screen experience than Nintendo themselves. I think dual screen Nintendo hardware ended with the Switch and isn't coming back. Stuff like NDS or 3DS emulation on NSO will be handled with both screens displayed on the single Switch 2 display, that's it.

@MrCarlos46 You also run into the issue of the second screen draining the battery life faster as well. I feel like something akin to a camera attachment would be more likely.

Honestly, I'm surprised that neither switch 1 nor 2 had a built-in camera. A fair amount of games had fun uses for the camera on the DSi onwards plus having another camera around is always nice.

I did this last month as the Switch 2 language selection screen upon first time set up.

I just chose to use the Wii U background as a placeholder. Hopefully an animated background is used instead of something plain. Unlike on the Switch 1, the regional dialects of English, French, Spanish and Portuguese should be made as separate language options on Switch 2 instead of system region determining the dialect for those languages, so I added them separately here. French (France), Portuguese (Brazil) and Portuguese (Portugal) aren’t shown here as I just made it as something like when it’s all the way at the top, but they’re there as you scroll down.

@NeonPizza We’ll probably see Joy-Cons with colored shells later on, unless the black/white shells with colored accents is the standard for non-themed Joy-Cons.

If they offer a white console, I'm never getting one again. Not after the amount of dirt my Switch OLED picks up.

One thing that would be cool tho: an SNES edition Switch 2

Maybe this time containing both the US and JP/EU color combos instead of separate variants for those regions.

We got some more info on the Switch 2 thanks to yesterdays’ FCC filings:

1. Switch 2’s model number will be BEE-001, while the L Joy-Con uses BEE-12 and the R Joy-Con uses BEE-014
2. The Switch 2 will support Wi-Fi 6 for smoother online play
3. NFC will be on the R Joy-Con
4. The Switch 2 can be charged from either the top or bottom USB-C port

Since NFC is being added, Amiibo lives to see another day. Nintendo just needs to make more games support Amiibo.

May 22...I watch another tubber and they reasoned Japan likes the number "2" as it consistently shows up on alot of how they release and timeline releases.

1) It will be a success (I’m starting this off with a stretch)
2) It will have a much nicer home menu, with a revamped Mii Maker using the characters from Nintendo Switch Sports
3) It will have a Wii U-like connectivity between the console and the TV, allowing us to play games on the TV while undocked (this would be handy for games like Mario Maker)
4) It won’t get a new F-Zero (the buildup was just to get people excited) because we need a new Punch-Out!! and Star Fox more
5) It will allow us to access Nintendo Music and the NSO app from the console itself (this would be nice)
6) It will provide more customizability for the controllers
7) The Joy-Con (s?)will be extremely expensive
8) The console will have a mic and camera in it, which would benefit from my third prediction
9) It will release

I like your #5.

I'm shaky on most of the others lol (except for 9)

I mean, I really do think it will be a success, I just continue to worry about two major things:

  • The competition in this handheld/hybrid market IS much more intense all these 8 years after the original launch. Everybody downplays the Steam Deck, the Ally, etc. as being more niche products or not direct competition, but I'm not entirely sold on that. We'll see.
  • The Switch 2's size is massive. It's not really a practical handheld outside the house anymore. I mean, it's only like an inch and a half from being as wide as some Macbooks. A big, big, big part of the Switch's success has been the ease of tossing it in a bag and running out of the house, taking it out while in public and not looking like you're about to hack a satellite. I mean, I'm a gamer to the core, but even I would chuckle if I ever saw someone wrapping their mitts around a Steam Deck in the dentist's office or something.

Pretty rare to see a Switch used in a place like that; perhaps occasionally a small child, but I've never seen an adult do so. I mostly see them in the same places where it would be normal to see someone use a laptop — trains/stations/buses, planes/airports, occasionally a park bench. I've seen a Switch being used just kind of randomly outside by an adult not in one of those places precisely once and I was kind of shocked tbh. Switch 2 will fit in a backpack almost as easily as Switch and will still work fine in I think most situations Switch is used. Of course most people just use them inside their house or friend's houses. I'm less concerned about travel with them and more just how easy it will be for smaller children to hold; even normal Switch is pretty large.

@rallydefault
We just got a report that all of the PC handhelds have only sold like 6 million units since the SteamDeck's February 2022 launch, with sales peaking in 2023 and declining significantly in 2024. The handheld PC market isn't anywhere near as big as its fans make it out to be, and even worse, it's a stagnant market too.
