There is also the interesting question of who is even making a 3D Mario since it seems like the Odyssey team has been making Bananza.
I think Pokemon will be November but I'm guessing Metroid will be August or September.
I think there could be a gap like there was in 2017 which is dedicated to 3rd parties. Back then you had Mario Odyssey on October 27th and then the next 1st party Switch game was XC2 on December 1st which allowed big 3rd party games like Skyrim, DOOM and Sonic Forces time to themselves. So I could see a situation where there's a September release (probably Prime 4) and then the next 1st party game is Legends Z-A in its usual November slot.
NateDrake was just ssying Microsoft has several games theyre about to announce for Switch 2. Master Chief Collection one of the games in the works for SW2 as well as Sea of Thieves, and likely Forza 5. Other games are who knows yet. Im hoping for Indiana Jones myself.
Wasn’t there rumours of Oblivion Remastered being worked on for Switch 2? Though after the problems it seems to be having with no patches released, I think it’s perhaps better they held off.

@Quantumz00 What would one expect from a Bethesda game that’s had a coat of paint slapped on top using Unreal 5, meaning there are 2 engines running at once.

@Quantumz00
I just bought the deluxe edition and figure once the switch to version releases I'll pay the $10 upgrade fee for it. That way I don't have to wait and I can still get it on NSW2 later.
@IceClimbers
Even then I wouldn't be surprised if they completely omitted mentioning the Nintendo version and saved it for their next Direct. You know how Nintendo is- they like to announce things themselves so that you never know if the game is actually releasing on the system because it doesn't get announced with other versions, so then when they do announce it in a direct it creates a ton of hype
Even though we know it's coming because they signed a 10-year contractual agreement.

@Polvasti I can't imagine them making a new 3D Mario any time soon. Unless the new 3D DK game was finished years ago, and Nintendo decided to sit on it- the team was probably busy with that.

@VoidofLight Mario platformers are Nintendo's flagship franchise, alongside Zelda. They wouldn't have put the next 3D Mario on indefinite hold just because the same team that was developed Odyssey was developing Donkey Kong Bananza – and we don't yet know if it was the same team. Even if it was, they could've simply assigned a different team for the next Mario. It's been 8 years since Odyssey, which is the longest gap ever between new 3D Mario platformers, so there's no way the next one isn't already far in development. It may not come out this year, if Nintendo wants to have Metroid and Pokemon as their Christmas sellers, but I'm certain it'll come out in 2026 at the latest.
@Polvasti I doubt they gave Mario to another team. The team working on DK has been the 3D Mario team for ages now, and I doubt they'd move development to another team. DK sorta fills that niche that 3D Mario has left as a launch title anyways. DK is 100% the same team. It has design elements that Odyssey has used, and it has a good bit of Odyssey's DNA.
We'll see the next 3D Mario towards the middle point of the Switch 2's life probably. Same with Zelda. They aren't going to be losing out, given that Mario Kart was one of their highest selling games on the original Switch, and if they make an Animal Crossing within a year or two of the system being out, that'll also sell a lot of units.

I thought all the DK platformers since the 1990s have been made by third-party studios, whereas the 3D Marios have always been developed by Nintendo's in-house teams?
@Polvasti I meant, the team producing Bananza is the team that was working on the last few 3D Marios. I doubt they'd change teams internally when the team that made Odyssey and Bananza is well versed in 3D Mario.

I mean we dont have a guarantee it is the same team that designed Odyssey, but the context clues are pretty obvious. Hell for over two or three plus years there were rumours of a new Donkey Kong game - Nintendo Life reported on it - and these same rumours said the Odyssey team was working on it. Would be strange the rumour from over a year ago was only partly right when it got everything else right?
All this is why i think a 2D Mario is next in the works. Although i wouldnt be surprised if Nintendo threw us a curve ball and we get a new Wario Land game!
@rallydefault I think in a September 2025 Direct we'll see a reveal for 3D Mario similar to Prime 4 in E3 2017 or TotK in E3 2019. A kind of "this game exists but you'll be waiting awhile" type thing.
I could see GTA6 playing chaos with the 2026 Direct schedule considering May 26th 2026 isn't a guaranteed release date. You could end up with a situation where a Direct happened then Rockstar delayed GTA6 resulting in games from the Direct needing to be delayed to avoid GTA6.
