@Grumblevolcano@JaxonH Oblivion remastered was outsourced to Virtuos so Bethesda wouldn’t be too involved with that. I never considered Starfield, how well received was that game? Seems like there was a lot of disappointment when it launched but that’s all I know about it.

Right but Virtuos is a commonly utilized resource for porting games and only has so much manpower, and is already likely chock to the hilt with projects. We already witness how Developers simply didn't have the resources to bring many games to Switch because the industry for so long had reached equalization without Nintendo platforms being factored in. The demand for developers far exceeded the supply so Nintendo switch ports had to compete for those resources.
That has slowly changed over the years as more and more developers account for Nintendo from the start And that's going to become even more true now that they have a competent platform that doesn't need bespoke versions built ground up, but it's also true the demand for development resources is going to Skyrocket now that Nintendo has a platform that can run the vast majority of games being made. So the point stands regardless of whether it's Bethesda, Virtuos, or any other studio they contract out to.
As for Starfield, all I know is it didn't live up to expectations but I have heard the game has improved considerably with post launch updates and added content

@Ryu_Niiyama so the plan of attack is try online at midnight eastern tomorrow. If that fails, walk in store first thing Thursday morning. That's what I'll be trying. Thankfully I have a GS, BB, and target right next to eachother if my online order attempt fails.
So apparently Street Fighter 6 also uses DLSS. And it's using it in the manner Nintendo patented- taking a base 960 x 540p image and quadrupling the pixel count to 1920 x 1080p (2x pixels in each axis). The incredible thing is- Digital Foundry mistakenly concluded the image was rendering native 1080p.
Think about that... the DLSS upscaling is so good even the experts thought it was rendering natively. And that could perhaps be understood if it was quadrupling 1080p to 2160p (4k) because the base resolution contains so much more detail. But to upscale from 540p and produce an image even experts can't discern isn't a native 1080p? That's some sort of magic. The same could be said for Cyberpunk 2077 as that too was mistaken for native 1080p.
Whatever proprietary method of DLSS upscaling Nintendo came up with and patented... it's looking to be the real deal.
And I suspect the joycon 2 and pro controller analog sticks are using their patented technology with liquid inside the housing, which would explain why they feel so frictionless.
Then you consider the fixed d-pad, mouse mode, the incredibly high polling rate, improved gyro aiming and 120fps, the VRR and HDR, rear buttons on the pro controller and charge grip, voice chat, gameshare... Switch 2 seems to be playing hardball. Nintendo's not messing around anymore. They're legitimately bringing the goods this generation, finally innovating in all the right ways gamers care about while also perfecting the technologies which have stagnated for decades.
The more I learn the harder it is to contain my excitement.

To be fair, the output of DLSS is very heavily dependant on the base asset quality. More than the base input resolution. Yes, more pixels per second -> more information -> better results but it's the base asset quality that's the ceiling for DLSS
DLSS with a 1080p, I would say there's more room there to get away with scaling errors. Especially if you're feeding it a relatively high frame rate and a fairly static screen
Not saying it not impressive, it is. But it's also just not what people are used to. And I would argue that Switch 2 is the kind of device where things like DLSS and VRR shine
So that Oblivion Remaster looks super-solid. Even though I was watching YongYea's stream and he crashed to dashboard while exiting the sewer (lulz), I was inspired enough to fire up the Switch port of Skyrim. Still a good port of the game well worth experiencing.
But it does make me wonder about a possible Switch 2 port for the Oblivion Remaster. The file size on other platforms is 118GB, so I would be interested to see how a Switch 2 port would be pared down and compressed.
@Magician Apparently it struggles quite a lot on Steam Deck so I do think it would need a lot of work to downscale it to work on Switch 2 and also be small enough to not take up all the internal storage. I’m going back and forth on whether this will come over or not.

@JaxonH That sounds like we shouldn’t expect a Switch 2 port for a long long while, at which point it may not be worth the expense and resources if most potential consumers are getting it elsewhere by the time they made a start on the port.
How well does Starfield run on Steam Deck? Because a lot of people seem to use that as a basis as to what can realistically be ported to Switch 2.

So guys just curious if you're planning to pre order switch 2 where is your preferred place to do so? I already did that thing where you register your interest with Nintendo but i heard they aren't even planning to send out the invites until May or something so i maybe better order from somewhere else if i wanna hope to get one.
Personally, registering through Nintendo is enough. Am I eager to get a Switch 2 in my hands? Sure. But I'm not gagging for it. If Nintendo sends me the email on the 8th, cool. If not? Oh well.
Unless my OLED dies in the near future, I can wait.
Switch Physical Collection - 1,537 games (as of December 22nd, 2025)
Switch 2 Physical Collection - 4 games (as of December 8th, 2025)
Wow. 2.2 million people registered to preorder Switch 2 on the MyNintendo store in Japan. Keep in mind you had to be subscribed to NSO 12 months with 50 hrs playtime, need a Japanese CC to purchase, and the systems from the store are region locked. So these were all legitimate Japanese pre-orders.
For context, Switch sold 330k it's opening weekend (PS2 between 600k-700k). And this is just on their official store, not even counting retailers. Of course they won't have enough supply so sales won't fully represent that number, but even so, it's looking like this is going to be the biggest console launch in the history of video games.
It was rumored Switch 2 could sell 6 million units at launch, a staggering number that's almost beyond comprehension. It's looking like that might actually play out.
@FragRed
Nah. Look at Witcher 3 and Skyrim on Switch. Those games had sold well over 20 million copies and yet they still had outrageous demand when they came to Switch. There are countless people who love a game and will want a hybrid version and there are even more people who simply don't own multiple platforms- they are strictly Nintendo. And there are still yet others who do own multiple platforms but who hold off on purchases because they prefer to play on a hyrbid (like me).
Already an Xbox leaker has come forward and said Bethesda is currently developing a Switch 2 version. My guess is it will release in November like Skyrim did and it'll sell extremely well on Switch 2, just like Skyrim did (can't remember but estimates had it well over 3 million units mid-way through the Switch lifespan). Perhaps even better.
I've never tried Starfield on Deck. But I wouldn't use that as a basis because most PC games aren't optimized for the Deck. Some are, and there are select games that even offer a bespoke "Steamdeck" graphics setting, but the vast majority do not. Switch 2 games can be specifically optimized- NPC counts reduced, texture resolutions adjusted, foliage assets and techniques swapped for less demanding alternatives, DLSS can be utilized which is also not available on Deck, etc. So while I do think it offers some value to get a general idea of how difficult a port may be I don't think a game running poorly on deck or not running at all is any guarantee we won't get a competent Switch 2 version of a game.

So... they just announced that the official price for Mexico is of $13, 500. That's like 650 dollars. I love how we always get screwed up. I can't even imagine the price in Argentina and Brazil.
@Magician
Ya probably. The Switch US sales were almost double that of Japan so 3m sounds spot on. At the very least, 2m in NA and another 2m in EU. Then add retailers.
And that's a conservative estimate.

I think the most fun I'll have with this device at launch (or when I get it, if I can't secure a preorder) isn't even Mario Kart World, but just downloading and trying out various Switch 1 games to see how they run. Especially certain 'problem' games.
Monster Hunter Stories 2 might be one of the first ones I try.
Currently Playing: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (NS2); Corpse Factory (PC)
Sonic Generations being there for launch is a great move. Hopefully it goes on to sell millions.
I haven't played it, so to have what is probably the best 3D Sonic, with new content and looking better than ever, to play on day one along with a brand new Mario Kart, is just superb.
My day one now looks like this.... Mario Kart World, Sonic Generations, Yakuza 0, Ridge Racer and probably FAST Fusion. Add on F-Zero GX and Soul Calibur 2 in HD, BOTW/ TOTK enhanced and the Mario Odyssey and Links Awakening upgrades (not sure these upgrades are available at launch?), and that is one hell of a day one. Probably my best ever in 40+ years of gaming. Cyberpunk and Street Fighter 6 will be next. Then it's Donkey Kong. It's just silly really. It's like a dream launch for me. And in the months ahead, we've got a new Shinobi, Crazy Taxi, Streets of Rage, Golden Axe, Jet Set Radio. And according to Sega, there's more. And not forgetting a top tier 2D Ninja Gaiden and possibly ports of NG2 Remastered and the new one. These kind of games are the reason I play video games.
And to make it all even better, I'll be playing them on what is, a beast of a Nintendo console. My first generational leap since the Wii U.
@OorWullie Yeah Sega is being a very active supporter. Hopefully Shinobi gets a Switch 2 version, but even if it doesn't that's still a new game to play.
And Ninja Gaiden Ragebound, I wonder if there's a chance it gets shadowdropped at SGF... which is the day after Switch 2's launch.
