@skywake
lol yea that’s how the world works.

It’s already a beautiful game, surely, but I can see them giving it the visual boost that stuff like Odyssey got. But lots of people seem to think actual DLC may be coming…

Does anyone know how much true storage is on the Switch 2 and 512GB express cards? So like how while Sandisk 1TB Ultra says 1TB, you only get 953GB.

I don't want to delete games (I'd much rather have 1TB express card) but I want to see how much I'd have to delete if 1TB ended up not being an option.

@Grumblevolcano I think the 512 card I got either had 472 or 473 total. But it was one of the Walmart brand cards, so it might be worse than other options.

WoomyNNYes

@Grumblevolcano switch 2 storage space is 232gb, or 237gb. The amount of storage space on a card is about 91% of the advertised capacity. The 512gb card has about 465gb of free space. (I just double checked my 512gb card on my switch 2)

I have about 200 gigs on my Switch 2, but I'm basically all physical. So it's gotta be something like low 200s for internal memory.

Okay, I just played Mario Kart World in handheld mode for approximately 2,5 hours and the battery went from 100% to 7%. It is around 23C in the house and the console was barely warm. Everything seems to be fine.

@Jhena thats not bad at all! a lot of ppl have been complaining abt the battery but it only depletes that fast on big games and usually js having it in a charger while playing is fine too haha. i hope they do upgrade it in later years tho for people who want a larger battery! 😝

I was planning on getting the Switch 2 Pro controller when I could just walk into the shops and grab one but it's still just constantly out of stock by the looks. But people keep raving about it and, to be honest, I got a bit tired of having to turn on the Switch 2 on the unit itself

So I've ordered one from the Nintendo store alongside some My Nintendo rewards and a plushie that's going to make for a decent gift

Yep, it is more than enough for my needs, but of course more battery capacity would be good for people who are a long time away from home and have no power bank with them.

10,000 mAh battery (38 Watt Hours doubling battery life) thats carbon fiber, supposedly the lightest in the world. Think it's 150 grams.

I have a 20,000 mAh battery from Genki coming with built in magsafe and rings to attach it to anything that's not their case (which I cancelled) and will switch to that in a few weeks. Magnetic is slicker than velcro and it'll triple battery life. Weight should remain under that "too heavy" threshold since even if it's 200 grams that's still a total of just 730g. Steamdeck was 670g and with that carbon fiber battery I was at 820g-that was right at the limit of where I would consider anything more too heavy. So remaining 90g under that threshold will be just fine.

A larger battery like this Genki one wouldn't work with steam deck, because it would be too heavy, but thanks to how light the Switch 2 is, I can get away with it. It's a bit expensive, but it does have magsafe. Built in end comes with the rings to attach to the back of the switch designed to actually hold its weight and outputs 30W, which is definitely more than anything i've found.

But for anyone else, I'd grab a 10,000 mAh battery that's flat and get some double sided velcrstrips and a small pack of double sided velcro circles for the 4 corners of the battery (can just use scissors and cut out some squares from the strips if you want though).

Then get a 200mm (7.8") right angle to right angle USB-C cable and... there ya go. I recommend the Satisfye Switch 1 case (not the grip, I mean the case designed for it since it's large enough for the wider NSW2, and has a bottom compartment large enough to fit the battery with the right angle cable as 1
well as and an extra official charger with USB-C cable, and an official mouse grip (with cord cut off of course- cut that aggravating lawsuit prevention out of your gaming experience and flush it down the toilet). Everything you need to double your battery life and recharge that battery if needed or, permanently recharge the system. Doesn't even matter if it's not the lightest battery in the world if you're only getting 10,000 mAh. You'll have more than an enough headroom to play with when it comes to the weight limit if sticking with 10,000 mAh.

Ya, battery life is one of its weaknesses as it was with the original launch model of the first NSW1.

Thankfully, the solution I have implemented basically doubles the battery life to turn it into a Switch OLED with 4.5 hrs minimum without the weight changing enough to really notice. And if you use velcro, it's incredibly inexpensive. I'll be pushing the limits with the 20,000 mAh Genki battery and it's included magsafe rings but most people will just want a cheap and basic solution.

Found some items on Amazon for anyone interested in constructing a set like I did.

10,000 mAh 165g battery $24

200mm right angle to right angle usb-c cable $10

double sided velcro strips $7

GRAND TOTAL = $41

For the record, here's the one I use, which is 150 grams.

Nitecore 10,000 mAh 150g battery $65 (10% off first order if ...

That 15g may not sound like much vs. the one I recommended on Amazon, but every gram matters. Consider the velcro and the cord will be adding a few grams as well. For me, keeping the Switch as light as possible was a top priority so yes, that extra $34 was worth trimming off another 15.grams. Plus it outputs 22.5W instead of 15W or 20W, which is what most of these batteries offer. Which is another reason I want that 20,000 mAh Genki- it pushes 30W which is considerably more than even my Nitecore. Granted, the Nitecore's strength is being the lightest in the world, Genki's strength is being magnsafe with matching ring stickers that pushes 30W. Not that even 20W isn't enough when playing handheld, but a few extra watts helps it charge faster or at least not slowly drain while playing (wasn't an issue on NSW1 and I think max total draw on NSW2 in handheld is also.20W but still- it's just a little cherry on top of the lighter weight).

It's also the perfect size that fits right in between the kickstand so the when the cable is inserted, you can still swing the kicksand over it. The weight also feels evenly distributed, which more than almost anything else is going to affect whether it "feels heavier" or not. And the location of the USB-C port is perfect for the length of this cable. It's just the ideal battery for turning Switch 2 into a NSW OLED in terms of battery life.

Sorry about the stupidness of this question, I’m basically a child with technology and didn’t have a switch 1 so never come across this.

I’ve filled up my switch 2 memory already, can I further down the line buy multiple micro SD express cards and once full essentially just swap them in and out depending on what games I want to play?

Also among the many criticisms I see of the game key card is what happens when the servers go down, I don’t see it being an issue for me in 20 years time but in theory if I don’t delete the game and keep the key card it won’t make any difference ?

Welcome to the Switch 2 gamer's club. We're honored to have you with us. I love seeing PlayStation and Xbox guys expand their horizons and enjoy some of the different types of games that are out there, or in the case of Switch 2, enjoy some of the games you already like. But with the freedom and versatility of the hybrid advantage as well as mouse and gyro aiming. One of Nintendo's biggest strengths is versatility in control options.

Wanna normal controller? Got you! You even get rear grip buttons without spending $150-$200!

Wanna normal controller but on the go? Use.the grip. I recommend the charge grip since it lets you charge the joycon while playing and includes the rear grip buttons, unlike the stock grip out of the box. It's kind of shady they don't just include that instead of the gimped one they give you with the system.

Wanna spread out with a controller in each hand? No problem. The controller splits in half, so you can have half in your left hand and half in your right hand while you play.

Wanna play some Split Fiction or Yakuza 0 Raid Mode on the spot but don't have an extra controller? The joycon are designed to turn sideways and work individually. It's not the most comfortable ergonomics in the world, but it works in a pinch, and I've had so much fun playing Mario Kart 8 Deluxe or Diablo 3 with people I otherwise wouldn't have been able to if not for the ability to turn the joycon sideways.

Tired of aiming with a right analog stick like it's 1998? Welcome to the Switch platform where the majority of developers actually incorporate gyro aiming, where mouse has been mapped to 2 of the 3 rotational degrees of freedom, allowing a level of precision PS/Xbox gamers can only achieve with aim bots or heavy aim assist (where the aiming method is so terrible the game essentially cheats on your behalf to make you feel like you're hitting a target that you're really not).

Want to experience the perks of the PC master race like mouse aiming without being shackled down by the century old typewriter as your payment to be ferried across the abyss? Switch 2 has you covered. Mouse aiming in one hand, actual one-handheld contriller in the other. No typewriter required! No WASD mapped to an analog stick for make believe sessions pretending you're getting full analog movement at the same time as the precision and accuracy as mouse aiming. Grab a $10 8" x 10" firm mouse pad like the one I showed in a post on the page prior and you're golden.

And the best part is, you can seamlessly transition between any of these control methods at any given time. Using mouse in Hogwarts Legacy but want to use gyro aim with your wand? Just lift and aim- it's that easy! Or perhaps you're playing with the grip and want to split the controller apart? Only takes seconds, and vise versa.

Got NSO and want authentic controllers to experience those titles how they were intended? They released official NES controllers, SNES controllers, Genesis controllers, N64 controllers, even GameCube controllers.

And while I personally prefer digital triggers since 99% of the games I play use them, there is the occasional game or two where I wish I had analog triggers. And guess what- the new GameCube controller offers just that! I'm now playing Trials Rising on NSW2 with analog triggers for gas/break instead of the right analog stick. And don't get me wrong, I want to give the right analog stick its flowers for Trials because it worked beautifully as a substitute- but I'd be lying if I didn't admit it's nice having those triggers for a change.

Even the system itself- it's all about versatility. Wanna play on the TV? Cool. Rather play handheld? Got you. Going somewhere but you're going to be there a while and would prefer to set up shop like a little mini home console station? Tabletop mode with detachable controllers awaits.

Just hearing you talk about Yakuza 0 Director's Cut with such enthusiasm warms my heart. That's what it's all about- this system allows you to experience all your favorite games. But with far more freedom and versatility than you ever had before, and thanks to Nintendo finall putting some level of focus on specifications, we can enjoy some of these games in higher resolutions and frame rates. I believe Yakuza 0 is now 4k 60fps, whereas previously it was 1080p and while not a major issue, experienced some drops to 55-59fps. Again, a small niggle, but an improvement nonetheless. And we're not exactly used to that within this fanbase 😀

Yea, you would just swap them in and out depending on which games you want to play. Just makes ure you are buying the express cards specifically, as others have mentioned.

I'm not a key card fan personally and will not be buying any of them, but I think the servers being briefly down or something shouldn't keep you from starting the game. I think once you initially download the game when you insert the card for the first time, it will put some sort of authentication on your Switch itself in case you want to play it while offline.

What size did you get? SD cards typically get cheaper fairly quickly so in a few years there will likely be cheap 2 TB cards you can use. Rather than swapping back and forth, just eventually buying a larger card and keeping some games non-downloaded when you don't need them seems like the easiest. Anything could happen in 20 years, so it's probably not worth worrying about now unless you are an ultra collector.

I’ve not bought one yet, just my internal switch 2memory is full so may have to consider it soon however you’re absolutely right they will get a lot cheaper and bigger sizes so I may just cycle through deleting games until then.

@JamesS2612 The small internal storage is a little rough when some games are 50GB. I bought a cheap card day 1 for my Switch 2 just for some wiggle room to double my storage. I figure it will be enough until I eventually buy a cheap 1TB or 2TB card.

Just replying to you because you mentioned the classic controllers through NSO - have we figured out a way to charge the NES controllers without the rail system anymore? Or do I just need to pony up some money to buy an old-school Joycon 1 charging dock or something?
