Topic: Nintendo Switch 2

In the latest Discourse™, I've seen folks angry that Pokopia and Winds and Waves are only on Switch 2.

Do you guys remember when the SNES came out and news stations ran stories about parents upset the new games only ran on new hardware?

This feels weirdly like that. But it also seems to only happen to Nintendo. No one gets angry Ghost of Yotei isn't on their PS4.

Well, I view that as a good thing.

It means people are gonna have to buy the system!

@Haruki_NLI I think there's a curve / gradient to it. The closer a console is to launch, the more people will be annoyed that a game is next-gen exclusive. Ghost of Yotei only came out a full 5 years after the PS5!

Of course there's also pull in the other direction. A lot of the discourse early this gen was that most new games are playable on old hardware. So I think a lot of people are relieved at this point that PS5 is getting exlusives.

Edit: on that note, I'm getting ever more confident that Pokopia is going to be a huge system seller. While Legends Z-A might have enticed some Pokemon fans, the prospect of having a highly acclaimed game that blends Pokemon with Animal Crossing and other similar games, combined with the knowledge that Switch 2 will be the only way to WW, is enough to tip Pokemon fans over the edge. I'm expecting a quite significant sales bump for the console this month.

@squiddu-real I think we saw a similar “leak” before - can’t remember if it was discredited or not but it looked remarkably similar to this. It was an actual image rather than a concept.

Can say I wasn’t a fan then, and I’m not a fan now. Way too much clutter. Frankly all I need to see is the menu items and the last 2-3 games I’ve played.

@Haruki_NLI Pokopia I sort of understand, even if I don't share in the anger, since its visuals aren't super impressive. I'm guessing Nintendo made it exclusive for GameShare, Mouse Mode, and maybe just so the Switch 2 could have an exclusive cozy game (while Switch 1 has Tomodachi Life).

The anger at Winds and Waves, though, is completely asinine. Pokemon struggled more than any other exclusive game and clearly needed stronger hardware. Not to mention, it will be released on the Switch 2's 3rd year being on shelves. It would be insanity to put WiWa on the original Switch.

@UpsideDownRowlet I feel like a lot of it is not real anger and just... wanting the game without paying $520. One can feel disappointed and envious and complain without actually feeling like Game Freak's decision was unfair or unjustified.
