@BonzoBanana Uninstalling won't fix it, it just needs a patch to fix the shadow values. The issue is primarily with how the game renders shadows, and how it happens so close to the player. The lines are on both sides of Link, and they're basically invisible on the original Switch version of the game due to the lower resolution of the screen. Here though, it's distracting, since you see a visible seam where the lower quality render of the shadow meets the higher quality rendering of it.

It's up to Nintendo to release a patch for it that increases the value where shadows render- but knowing them and how they didn't do it before the release of the edition of the game, they're probably not going to update to fix this. They already got their money, and not many people are actively complaining about it either.

Another question about the "only charge to 90% battery" toggle: Is it really not detrimental to the machine for it to be in the dock always off/on charging to keep it hovering around 90%? To me, that seems like it would also be a strain on the battery to keep trickle charging it so much rather than just getting it to 100 and keeping it there. But then again, I guess the same thing needs to happen to keep it at 100%?

I don't know. The old Switch never had that option, and honestly I never noticed much of a loss in capacity with my battery.

The Switch 2 version of Tears of the Kingdom looks rough. Like- it's nice having the game at 60 FPS, but there are heavy issues with the game's visuals on Switch 2. I started a new game from the very beginning, and when I first arrived on land on the Great Sky Island, the game's graphics started glitching pretty bad. Mainly in terms of shadows. There was a hard line that kept taking me out of the game that I noticed whenever I had link move around. It was a line that existed where the shadows would pop-in, and it was getting annoying to keep playing with it constantly doing that. Everything also looks extremely blurry as well- as if I'm playing the game on Switch 1 still- despite having the Switch 2 patch downloaded.
If I had to pay full price for this upgrade, I probably wouldn't be happy- but I guess I got it for free with the Expansion pass, so there's that.

That sounds weird. The Switch 2 version certainly doesn't look blurry to me, the image quality is much crisper than in the Switch 1 version. Are you sure this isn't because of some settings in your TV?

@Polvasti Do you have a 4k tv? a lot of the weirdness in some of the games on Switch 2 seem to relate to ultra HD mode.

Has anyone else tried Klonoa? It doesn't open at all for some people but it weirdly opens and runs well for others with the exact same hardware and settings... Nintendo doesn't seem to realize there is a problem.

@FishyS I have a physical copy of Klonoa. I just tested it in handheld mode, and it works fine. Load times seem to have shortened on the Switch 2, and the colours look very pretty on the new screen.

@Polvasti yeah, I think it's only the digital version which literally won't even load. Just gives an error message... I would be less concerned if Nintendo didn't mark it as no compatibility issues.

@FishyS That's weird... Shouldn't the digital and physical version have literally the same data? I wonder what could be causing such a difference between the two?

I bought the physical version of Klonoa a couple of years after it came out, and I remember I had to download quite a large patch/update for the game... But the digital version should have automatically come with it, right?

it's weirder than that. It only affects some digital versions even though they are all on version 1.0 so are identical. And this is both handheld and docked so it has nothing to do with tv. and it is both sd card and local storage.

Wait... the physical version had a patch? I guess that is a difference then. the version is 1.0.0 both on Switch 1 and 2 digital

Yeah, my version is not 1.0 rather than 1.01, and I had to download a 854 MB patch after I got it.

This is extremely weird... Why wouldn't the same patch be included with the digital version as well? I've never heard of a physical game having a later version number than its digital counterpart. But that would explain why Nintendo claims the game is compatible with the Switch 2, if they only tested the physical game with the patch.

@Polvasti It happened with Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered last year. When physical released in October, digital had 1.0.4 while physical had 1.0.5. Then both got updated to 1.0.6 in November.

@Grumblevolcano Klonoa is a years old game though so a bit weird if the versions are different. And if it works fine physical but not digital, maybe the versions are the issue.

I don't know. The old Switch never had that option, and honestly I never noticed much of a loss in capacity with my battery.

The problem is more that batteries don't like sitting at 100% charge, specifically they don't like sitting at the higher end of their voltage range. Higher voltage means more active chemistry which means faster degradation. That last 10-20% is where the worst of the damage occurs

As I understand it this is a similar reason why fast charge isn't ideal. Although at least with fast charge you're exposing the battery to higher voltages for much shorter periods of time than, you know, storing it long term at full charge

Also this 90% charge thing. Probably won't matter quite as much if you're playing daily in handheld mode. Throwing it in your bag daily etc. Because in that use case you'll probably have it spending most of the time at well under 100% charge anyways

@skywake
Ok, thank you! I guess I should just switch it on, then. I'm assuming you have the option toggled?

@rallydefault
I have it turned on and would recommend turning it on

The only reason I would turn it off is if I knew I was about to play in handheld mode for an extended period of time and might not have power handy. Like if I was going on a flight tomorrow or something I'd turn it off and let it charge to 100% before I left for the airport

I hope this isn't a stupid question, but did you acquire the TotK upgrade pack from the eShop? Even if you have the NSO expansion pack, and the upgrade is free for you, you still have to go to eShop and "buy" it (it just doesn't cost anything).

The reason I'm asking is because, I have the NSO expansion pack too, so initially I thought I would get the BotW and TotK upgrades automatically by just updating the games from their internal menu... And it took me a while to realise that I had to actually go to the eShop and "buy" the upgrade packs to get the Switch 2 versions on my console.

@Polvasti I acquired the upgrade pack from the eshop, yes. It's just not a good upgrade. Nintendo only upped the frame rate and that's about it. The rendering for the shadows needs to be adjusted because there are harsh lines on both sides of Link- and while it was there in the original game, it wasn't as visible due to the lower screen resolution, which is why it's more apparent here on a system with a higher resolution screen.
