So I see Game Vouchers still exist, but only for Switch 1 games. Does it make sense to keep using vouchers for Switch one games like the new Pokemon game later in the year, and then just paying for the Switch 2 upgrade, rather than paying the full price for the Switch 2 version? It kinda makes me wonder if there must be some sort of catch, cause it seems like the kind of loophole that Nintendo would close.

@VoidofLight
Tech is meant to get hot. Chips, boards, etc. are all made to withstand (and operate at, really) insane levels of heat. The only thing that is going to melt is the plastic, potentially, and that's not gonna happen lol

The catch is we don't know how many more games will be covered by vouchers and vouchers only come in pairs. For Pokemon Z-A, you save 10 dollars if you buy with a voucher and then buy the upgrade pack compared to directly buying z-a digitally. Will the same apply to Prime 4? Will any games after that work that way? We don't know for sure, so buying a voucher pair is a bit of a risk, especially for people who don't want both Z-A and Prime 4.

So, should I toggle on this “charge only to 90%” option?

I am feeling much more positive about it now. I had some initial reservations due to the size and battery life.
Getting a bit more used to the size of now, even if I do miss the ickle bickle nature of the Switch, but it starts to feel more comfortable once you get a bit more used to it. Battery is better with the adjustments made.

I have yet to properly take advantage with an actual Switch 2 game or enhanced Switch 1 game! But the speed, game chat, shop, and net speed are good with it.

Plus, I find it great to play KIRBY TILT AND TUMBLE, better than the Switch, which is what I have mostly been doing with it. If they put Super Monkey Ball on Gamecube NSO, this would work really well.

Also, rewind on N64 games is a good feature!

So the Xbox showcase ended and there was only 2 mentions of Switch, Planet of Lana 2 for Switch 1 and the already announced THPS3+4 for Switch 1+2. There was a weird situation where FFVII Remake was given a winter release window but Switch 2 wasn’t mentioned so perhaps the game releases at a different time for Switch 2?

Ah yeah that would make sense. I'll hang back for now then and see how it all plays out.

@Grumblevolcano There were a few games which were announced for literally everything except Switch 2/1 and seemed like the type of games which would come to a Nintendo console. I assume Nintendo just wants to make their own announcements.

@FishyS I do think the absence of Switch 2 is a sign of a June Direct at this point. Whether it’s a general Direct or a Partner Showcase is a different question though.

Yeah I think it's clear that Nintendo is holding back announcements.

They need a Direct soon though

@rallydefault I toggled it to charge until around 90%, and it charges until 85 or so. Really weird.

@Kwyjibo_Kitsune good information, thanks. Hopefully this site does a write up on all the different options and what they’re actually doing like this so we can have it in one place.

Best Buy keeps adding stock of the bundle and non bundle but only like 1 or 2 available, but only in store(the location near me had 1 left but it was gone in minutes).

I was able to grab a Switch 2 by fighting off a few others for one unit 😅 Good luck to everyone who is still trying to find one. I don't actually have any Switch 2 games, but the console feels super polished.

@Grumblevolcano
There really haven't been any notable Switch 2 announcements during the game showcases (State of Play, Summer Games Fest, Xbox Direct) over the past week.

I assume this is because a lot of developers only recently obtained access to Switch 2 development kits and are thus unable to announce Switch 2 versions of games at the moment.

Example: Limited Run Games has only had Switch 2 dev kits for the last ~2 weeks (as of June 7 2025).

Of course, several of the recently announced games probably won't be released for Switch 2 at all (i.e. the very graphically demanding ones).

@Kwyjibo_Kitsune
Whoa, really? So if I set the HDR option to "off," it'll still put a game like Mario Kart World in HDR when I'm playing it in handheld?

@FishyS
Congrats! I know you were looking for one.

Magician

It's always weird to see Game Freak make something that isn't Pokemon, lol.

Switch Physical Collection - 1,537 games (as of December 22nd, 2025)
Switch 2 Physical Collection - 4 games (as of December 8th, 2025)

FragRed

@Magician Not just that but make a good looking game. It’s like, they can do it but they clearly don’t have the resources and time to do so with Pokemon. Also I think there’s a fair bit of “Pokemon sells so why bother?”

@westman98 There’s a difference between limited and almost non-existent though, not even CoD was announced for Switch 2 of which Microsoft is legally bound to release CoD on Nintendo hardware.
