I think Pokemon should go back to being good looking 2D games instead of bad looking 3D games, this is the beginning and end of my wishes for Pokemon, thank you.

I think I could make the case that FR/LG is now the best looking mainline Pokemon RPG on Switch.

Even if you could argue for some aspects of modern Pokemon games, I think context would destroy that argument. FR/LG is still a GBA game, and it is obviously better looking by the standards of GBA than newer games are on the Switch. The gap between the best looking Switch games and modern Pokemon releases and FR/LG vs. the best looking GBA games is dramatic. I'd prefer a good looking GBA game over a mixed bag looking Switch game in terms of aesthetics for a video game.

And this isn't even purely a Pokemon issue. I have no connection to or nostalgia for mainline Dragon Quest, but I still think some of the modern spinoffs are pretty underwhelming looking from what I have seen, especially compared to the HD-2D remakes. It's just the same thing for me, if given the choice I will take a good looking 2D game over a mid looking 3D game, every day of the week and no amount of "but its more advanced!1!!11!" will ever change that.

@kkslider5552000 While I would say that the 2D Pokemon games do hold up as some of the best looking games in the series (even after the Winds and Waves reveal), those games' were missing something: bonding features. Firstly, since the camera angle in battles was fixed, you couldn't see the faces of a lot of Pokemon oftentimes (this lead me to specifically choose Pokemon I could see the faces of in 2D games), whereas the free or changing camera angles of the 3D games let players see their Pokemon's expressions. XY was also where we started getting specific mechanics meant for connecting with our Pokemon (e.g. Amie, Care, Camp, Picnic), something only made possible by the ubiquitous nature of the 3D models. For this reason, I wouldn't actually want to return to 2D sprites, even if they looked fantastic.

Tbh, based on BD/SP, its really the overworld where my issue lies so I would not hate a back and forth 2D to 3D idea. (especially if it meant the 3D graphics team has more time to cook not needing to try to make overworld graphics)
