The fact that Crystal Chronicles might not be here until after summer is such a downer for me. It has been my most anticipated remaster since remasters became popular, and they keep teasing me with it as it slips further away

@Dezzy Well, there's brand new online multiplayer, new dungeons, new voicework, new costumes in addition to the updated textures. Definitely not a 6 month job.

They're primarily busy with a certain upcoming remake, @Dezzy .... & they have been pumping out the other FF games pretty well, TBF Some of us (OK, maybe only me?) are hoping for Star Ocean Second Evolution R to follow 1st Departure, too

@BruceCM

I assume it's a different team working on FF7 remake though. Given that it's like a 3-5 game long series.

Probably a much bigger team .... Overall, it's probably good if they aren't rushing the ports & things, though

@BruceCM

Yeah but I mean that one team probably doesn't impact the other. Square is a huge company. They have like 10 different teams working on 10 different things at once.

@gcunit The Good Life is being directed by Swery of Deadly Premonition fame, so being ropey/janky is to be expected and arguably part of its charm.

Random things.
I just want either Dragon Quest Builders 3 or Final Fantasy Builders for next future games.
Either of them must be better than The Sims and Animal Crossing.

So here we are at March 20th, the last known release date for a 1st party game and on Sunday it will have been 200 days since the last general Direct.

I think Nintendo and other companies are in a very difficult and unsure situation as to when and how to release their future games as more and more countries start locking down. In the UK it was just announced that pubs and restaurants and cinemas etc were to be shut down and there is a huge amount of uncertainty about wages especially for self employed. And this will be a continuous changing scenario that is going to massively impact Nintendo as well as others over the coming weeks and months. And I am sure Nintendo will be very vague about most release dates outside of perhaps Xenoblade Chronicles.

@FragRed I mean yeah, it could be a month or more until I can go home with everything going on here. I can work remotely thankfully but...

FragRed

@link3710 I wonder, if the rumours were true about the general Direct next week, if that would now be postponed or altered based on what's now happening.

Grumblevolcano

@FragRed I think we'll either see the return of digital first games (Nintendo did it with Wind Waker HD in 2013 where digital was 2 weeks earlier) or an even heavier focus on DLC (e.g. Xenoblade and No More Heroes III are the only games before August but here's lots of DLC in the meantime).

@Grumblevolcano That is interesting, I didn't realise Wind Waker HD was digital first. But that maybe a good idea going forward. I was wondering how Nintendo would cope as most of their sales are still physical. It won't affect Japan so much as they seem to have no problem with gathering in large groups inside shops to purchase games.

@FragRed I do think there's a significant audience that would buy digital retail games if they were the only option at launch, though it's hard to prove that without someone trying it.

Dezzy

I don't see why they'd delay the Direct. If anything, they'll just add an extra month to any releases in the near future. So if Xenoblade was originally planning to release in May, they'll just push it to June.

I've gotta assume most of what they'll show will be more than 2 months away anyway, so they can always delay stuff nearer to the time if they struggle to get manufacturing done.

@NintendoByNature I was hoping to love Trials of Mana but the demo really didn’t do it for me. Did you check it out?

nintendo is good for the soul

NintendoByNature

@neogyo I played a good hour, Maybe hour and 20. I was hoping to be in love with it as well. I Think it's good. Music is good, story seems good. Combat is so-so. I like it, but i still have to play more to really love it. I still think I'm grabbing it day 1. But I was expecting just a little more. But again, I've only played a little over an hour.

Dezzy

I thought it was fairly good just very simple.

It's like they deliberately kept it at 90's level complexity so it would be a faithful remake.
