@skywake LM2 and TTYD do have release windows that could be 2nd half of 2024 (Summer 2024 and 2024 respectively). I do think both will be 1st half given age ratings started appearing last month but the release date announcements would be either in the next Direct or a social media post if there is no early in the year Direct.

I don't think it'll happen this way but there's technically nothing stopping Nintendo from doing a general Direct only for the current Switch in the usual February slot, announce a load of unannounced stuff in it and end the Direct with Prime 4 such that people massively question if there actually is new hardware this year.

Eh, we kinda thought the same( developement hell) for Bayonetta 3 and "botw2" which came to be totk. We went a good while on both games without hearing much. Developement could be fine and nintendo's just waiting for the right moment to kick it into high gear aka, the next console or later this year. I guess we'll just wait and see.

@NintendoByNature Ehhh, the difference is that TotK had updates almost every year where Aonuma spoke to us about how the game was still in development, whilst giving some glimpses of it. As for Bayonetta 3, yeah this is a similar situation. The only thing is that Metroid Prime 4 basically got revealed before Bayonetta 3 I think, and then restarted development. Even then, its been long enough for us to already know more info.. but Nintendo won't tell us anything about the game's current status.

I mean, Nintendo does tend to avoid showing stuff until they're ready to push it out the door lately. The Super Mario RPG remake was released only a few months after it was announced. Super Mario Wonder was the same. Dread was similar. Hell, the Switch OLED was similar

I mean we mention TotK here but it's a bit of an outlier here. It's pretty much the only game Nintendo has released in the last few years where they had shown gameplay more than a year before launch. But even then, the first reveal of TotK wasn't gameplay. The first trailer with actual gameplay was 2021, 2 years after the initial reveal. And at that point the intent was to release in 2022

So yeah, I'm not sure Nintendo being quiet on Prime 4 really says anything much at all. Nintendo more or less do the same thing for all their games. It just happens that Prime 4 is the only game they announced early during their "hype up the Switch" period

@VoidofLight yea for sure. Bayo3 got announced in TGA 2017 i believe and we only saw it maybe once or twice before launch if i recall correctly. Although i could be completely wrong. Hoping we get some MP4 info in 2024. If we don't, I'll start buying into the development hell theory for it.

I don't think we would've gotten Prime Remastered last year if Prime 4 is nowhere near reappearing. Nintendo's use of ports/remasters/remakes are generally tactical like preparation for a new entry, celebration of a franchise's anniversary, the Wii U sold poorly, games never released in some regions, etc.

At current it seems the main 1st party Switch ports/remasters/remakes that don't seem to have some kind of specific tactical use are Link's Awakening, Miitopia and TTYD.

@Grumblevolcano TTYD is probably being used to gauge interest in terms of direction for the next big paper mario. The devs are convinced that the original game style wouldn't sell anymore, and this is sort of the chance to prove them wrong.

.... or it's just one of the most well regarded first party GC titles that scales well with little effort and is yet to be ported. When you think about it, TTYD is a very easy win. It's Paper Mario, it already looks decent simply emulated and rendered at 1080p. It's also a fairly meaty title that's fairly well regarded. Low effort, big win

@skywake Thankfully TTYD isn’t just a port. They fully remade the game.

@Fizza Should have guessed. Big Xbox games coming to Switch is the flavour of the rumour already. They really are going all out for January.

I saw a random YouTube video 'leaking' Wed Feb 7th for the next Direct.

Given that in 2019, 2023, 2022 the February direct was on the second Wednesday and the third Wednesday in 2021 I confidently predict....

One of the first 3 Wednesdays in February. 😝 Unless Valentine's Day bumps it to Feb 13 or 15. If all 5 of those predictions are wrong, I owe a virtual cookie.

As far as the rumors of a January Direct go... I'm not convinced. It's Nintendo, so who knows, but they consistently have them in February.

I'd say first two weeks of February and then Pokemon Presents on February 27th.

Do you think the internet would implode if the Microsoft game that lands on Switch is Halo? Or at this point do you think nobody cares anymore and it'd be a bit "meh". To be clear, I don't think it will be Halo although I think it's not quite as crazy as others might. It could happen I think.... I just wonder if anyone would actually care anymore if it did

@skywake if it was the master chief collection I think people would lose it. If it was, say halo 1, maybe people would say meh, but still buy it.

NintendoByNature

VoidofLight

@skywake I guess it depends on the Halo game. If its the newest one (and if microsoft basically brought it over with black magic), people would probably just be upset with it. If it were the Master Chief Collection, then people would probably be happy.
