@Slowdive Nintendo will have done deals with 3rd parties to showcase their games at the E3 2020 Direct but it got cancelled so the partner showcases existed to honor those deals. E3 2022 got cancelled so a similar thing may be in place.
@Grumblevolcano The problem with that partner showcase is the fact we STILL haven't had an announcement for Wave 2 of the MK8D Booster Course Pass. There's just no way Nintendo would hold an event so close to the DLC's release and not announce it because they decided to do a partner showcase instead. 🤔
@Giancarlothomaz While true, it's DLC for a first party title that has sold like 35 million plus copies so it's a HUGE deal, especially if you're holding a Nintendo Direct a few weeks before the release date as most casual players don't watch standard trailers, but do watch the larger events such as Nintendo Directs.
I've made a horrible realisation: the day that this supposed Direct is meant to be coming out is also the day I'll be heading off to the Irish Open with my dad.
If they could push it back a week, I would very much appreciate it.

@FragRed that's actually exciting. Sure a full direct would be great, but like...we know what's coming for the most part. We don't have confirmation on whether Persona will be added, and perhaps there is other interesting news. I'm excited.
A Partner Showcase is what I expected. The question is, will they do multiple small ones like they did in 2020 or will it be one medium sized Direct Mini?
Before people go there, I don't think this means anything regarding new hardware. I think this is simply Nintendo deciding to hold off on revealing info about their 1st party titles for now because of E3 being canceled. They LOVE to hold their cards close to their chest, so them not revealing anything regarding 2023 1st party titles until September would be completely in character for them.
@sisodinr I think that’s the thing. For some reason everyone is thinking Nintendo doesn’t have an already packed second half of the year and must have some big announcements to make. We already know what’s coming, it’s just dates we need and that can be announced through trailers as and when. Third party is something that’s lacking and hopefully this would help fill the gaps.

A Partner Showcase is so pointless. If a 3rd party game isn't part of a general Direct, where is the attention then? You get the same result by just posting it on Twitter. Or am I wrong?
We all know how this will turn out if it really is just a Partner Showcase. :')
Proper directs have AAA third party games. Looking at June directs for 2018, 2019, 2021....... 2021 appeared to have more third party AAA type games. In 2017 I don't see a normal direct? On nintendo's youtube, I only see June e3 presentations for specific games, Mario Odyssey, Pokemon, Mairo Rabbids, Arms, Botw DLC.
We'll see what next week brings. A partner showcase isn't what I'd personally be excited for, but I'd still tune in and see what Nintendos partners can muster up.
