Something wonderful happened to me... I got all the P-Switches in Free Roam mode! I found and did the last P-Switch mission last night! All that's left are any Peach Medallions I'm missing.

Version 1.5.0 available now, here is the new stuff they added:

Added team races to Knockout Tour when playing in a room during “Online Play” and “Wireless Play”.
The game now supports the Polish language.

Okay, I need to say something right now. This may have been obvious, but even though there are tons of people on the internet who hate on Mario Kart World, I have never thought of it as a bad game. There was just a few issues that I didn't like (such as custom grand prix not having custom items). But now all of those issues are fixed (minus Kamek still not being a playable character 😢).

Ultimately, Mario Kart World just came out at a bad time, when I was (and am still) mad at Nintendo of America because of how they treated Hyperdimension Neptunia and other niche third party Japanese games back in the Fall of 2024. Because of Nintendo of America's actions in that debacle, I've been giving them less of my money since as payback. Which obviously means buying less of their games going forward, so I have to pick and choose. Before recently, I was just thinking about going for the Switch 2 Legends Z-A bundle and passing on Mario Kart World, and maybe getting it several years later on sale.

But something changed recently. Hear me out. I was looking into the DLC for Pokémon Legends Z-A more, and honestly... I'm just gonna skip it. I really don't like how they made exploration time-limited in that DLC for some reason. Imagine Mario Kart World's Free Roam having a time limit. That would just be awful. Also, skipping the DLC means not paying 30 more dollars to Nintendo of America 😉. So now, since I'm not getting the DLC, I just want to get Legends Z-A as a physical copy. Which means that I now have an open console bundle game slot to fill (unless I end up going for a no game bundle, which I really don't want to do). And Mario Kart World is much more improved than when it first launched. I think you all understand where I am heading with this...

As long as I am able to accomplish my plans, I should have Mario Kart World by the time of the game's first anniversary.

Finally learned a few of the big shortcuts I didn't know. Specifically, I learned the Bowser's castle turn skip, the ending shortcut on Whistletop summit, and the gap jump on ? block ruins. All three are very worth learning if you haven't, they're all incredibly useful and not too hard to learn.

Nice! It's really a lovely game, and it keeps getting better with every update.

I liked it from the start, but even if I didn't... I'd have to begrudgingly admit that they're making some meaningful changes, and to someone with lots of hours in it, it feels like they're establishing a good foundation for some content DLC in the future.

Random question.... Let's say Nintendo announced more NPC drivers were incoming. Who would you want to see? And how should they be implemented?

I would love to see Ninji, of course! Perhaps they could swarm the track and steal items from you if you bump into them?

  • Hoppycat: I think it could make for a fun gimmick if whenever any driver Charge Jumps or Feathers, the Hoppycats will jump in tandem. It could make for some really interesting strategic attacks by timing charge jumps during this type of Kamek effect.
  • Maw-Maw: I mostly want it for its goofy design. As for its Kamek effect, it would probably just charge at racers.
  • Super Mario Odyssey Frog: Just vibes on the track.

The Fire and Boomerang Bros would be relatively easy to code but I think their trick animations would look pretty cool.

@JaketheArbok oh, for sure! I'd definitely like to see a Fire Bro have a pose like the Bubble Flower pose in Mario Wonder

@D-Star92 Excellent job, well done. It's good to 100% a game (in terms of collectables) but me personally I gave up a long time ago. It just seems odd to me that they would have this collecting feature in the game without having some amazing reward for those who collect them all, it's mostly about training, teaching the player to ride on walls etc. They could have at least given 100% completion players gold rims on their karts or something as a show of "This player is a pro" lol

@maxrpg Thanks! Yeah, it would have been cool to have a big reward for getting them all. I wasn't actively trying to find everything, I was just driving around the map at my own leisure. Playing Free Roam like that is relaxing, honestly, at least for the most part. Some of the challenges were kind of difficult.

@D-Star92 Free Roam is so interesting to me, because it gets such vehement hate online, but even though I totally understand why people hate it, I find it to be incredibly relaxing!

I love the free roam - definitely very chill.

I have 200-some P switches. I might try to get them all some day, I might not. I think it's just a cool world they've created to be explored. (I also disagree that the P switches are "just" tutorials - some of those suckers are hard. Makes me think those people haven't played a ton of them.)

People don't like to just... explore... anymore. There always has to be a reason.

@CaleBoi25 @rallydefault Agreed, I quite like Free Roam mode as well... it is relaxing for sure. It helps that I love the controls, and the Mario music remixes are really great stuff.

Had a chill morning in free roam for an hour or so just driving around and exploring, doing some P-Switch missions, etc. and it really is a nice change of pace from the online chaos. Some of those P-Switch missions are a little difficult though!
