@iKhan I think you mean Nintendo Account. My Nintendo is just the rewards service. Anyways, as skywake said above, I'm sure the ability for a Facebook or Twitter login means they'll use that data for Miitomo. Pretty much anything Nintendo does going forward will be tied to that account somehow.
Which is part of why I think people are wrong to think that this is in any way trying to be a "social network". We still don't know much about it but that's not at all how it came across to me. I thought it seemed more along the lines of a social-media toy that lives in that space between Facebook and Miiverse.

"Don't stir the pot" is a nice way of saying "they're too dumb to reason with"

I was thinking it's something along the lines of Snapchat or WhatsApp. A social media tool that ideally works across different social networks.
@skywake: Agreed. Reminds me more of Snapchat or Periscope rather than something like Facebook or Twitter. Snapchat and Periscope have done and continue to do well despite oversaturation in social media apps. If Miitomo does something that can carve it's own niche, it can do well.
In my opinion, I think its something that can do well only in Japan. Granted, Mii itself is Nintendo IP but seeing as how restrictive Miiverse is, I'm not sure that this will be any better than Miiverse.
Miitomo could be the ground work that needs to be laid. It could be the social app that all their other mobile games connect through, like Game Center on iOS or Google Accounts on Android. Nintendo normally runs things themselves and doesn't like to use outside accounts and what not. So they made Miitomo which can connect to outside apps (like Facebook) but isn't dependent on them. Then their future mobile games use Miitomo as their social connection (and through that they can post to Facebook and other Social Media sites) and that is how Nintendo starts carving their own area in the mobile market. I think to many people are viewing Miitomo as a stand-alone mobile experience when it is something that is going to connect to other experiences. Nintendo might even make deals with other developers to get their mobile games to use the Miitomo app as a social connection.
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

@Artwark: this app will be available all over the word. i imagine it will be huge in china and do fairly well in Russia. You guys are way to obsessed with the whole this isn't for me thing and are missing the bigger picture. this will make ninty a lot of money. you know i bet it will be popular in the us amongst elementary age girls as well.
Do you think it will have anything resembling gameplay?
I think it will be a Social app, kinda like Miiverse. The added bonus of Mii and possible expansion on the customization of Mii. I don't think it will have gameplay in the normal sense. Its gameplay will be meeting new Mii and interacting with them. The other games they are developing will probably connect to Miitomo but they will be games as we expect. That is my guess.

Hmm...
If this game also features streetpass, could they find a way for smartphones to communicate with 3DS? If this would be a hit, the getting streetpasses would become a lot more easy.

No, it would require changes in the OS on the smartphone. But they can implement something with the same function for the smartphones, but they would not be able to communicate with 3DS.
@DefHalan and @Octane, yep, I preregistered for that purpose, too. The coins are part of the upcoming My Nintendo program, which is the Club Nintendo replacement. I believe Platinum Coins are used to get free stuff and you can cash in Gold Coins for discounts. Whenever the thing launches in March, anyway.
