Sorry I thought this was the unpopular opinion thread, not the beg for attention thread?

Life to the living, death to the dead.

@Snaplocket Aw dang man, I hate to see you go. But remember, there is no problem with using the ignore function if you feel like people are really bothering you

Add me on switch if you like Xenoblade :)

I think Snaplocket actually has a point but is just arguing it poorly. I think they are trying to say Pokemon has stopped being a relevant must play JRPG to just a churned out product and Legends is them playing catch up but still doesn’t come close to catching up with other top JRPGs which is fair enough. Then with retorts to them by some users having been like you don’t know the difference between graphics and animations therefore you don’t have a right to say anything which is just stupid.

In any case my unpopular opinion is there’s a goodbye thread already. ;p

@Fizza I think Crash 4 did get a physical release in Europe eventually.

Thank you Nintendo for giving us Donkey Kong Jr Math on Nintendo Music

I enjoy Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair more than any of the SNES-era DKC games.

@Ralizah I'd agree with that to the point I don't think comparing the two is fair. I thought Impossible Lair wasn't just a cash in on nostaglia or a "spiritual successor" by how they were throwing some fresh ideas into the mix.

Directly comparing the two I'd give it to Impossible Lair, playing some of the DKC games on the Switch recently feels like a chore I needed to do whilst I still play Impossible Lair every now and then to try to get 100%.

@CactusMan Especially since Impossible Lair goes on sale for pretty crazy prices, both digitally and physically. I got my Switch physical for $10.

I can't speak to Banjo, though. Actually never played it! I'm hoping to rectify that this year, though, even if I feel like it'll be yet another N64 game that suffers when not viewed through nostalgia goggles. But as a self-respecting platformer fan, it has been a hole in my gaming resume for too long.

@jump @PoliticallyIncorrect While I think Tropical Freeze is probably a better platformer overall, I will say I really like the way they integrated puzzle mechanics into the overworld. It's a lot more engaging than just going from level to level.

Impossible Lair also has fun secrets that actually unlock stuff that's worth unlocking.

Definitely a top three Switch platformer for me.

@Ralizah I could never get into Impossible Lair for some reason - maybe some combination of the controls, the level design (especially repeating the slightly altered versions of levels) and the overworld. That said, I really enjoy Donkey Kong Country but was unimpressed by DKC2, and I adore Tropical Freeze but wasn't too hot on Returns, so this style of game as a whole can be very hit or miss for me.

On a related note, I thought the original Yooka Laylee was great, and would personally take it over Impossible Lair. IMO it was a respectable callback to games of the era and, while not on the level of top-tier modern platformers like Mario Odyssey and Psychonauts 2, certainly wasn't significantly worse than anything you'd find on the N64.

@Buizel Didn't they say that they were making a sequel in the style of the original Yooka Laylee for next year? I could've sworn I had seen that somewhere.

@Fizza I've seen reports that something is in development, but I don't think anything has been said beyond that.

I'm looking forward to it tbh. Hopefully this is their chance to push the envelope a bit, rather than just playing homage to days gone.

Phew boy...I have plenty but here are just some of them.

Ooo some nice ones. While I'm here and still have platformers on the brain I'll give my two cents...

I agree about Celeste. Great game, but definitely overhyped IMO.

Spyro 1 I can appreciate. There's something to be said about its relative simplicity and it is a much purer "collectathon" than the other games. It's the one I revisit the most for this very reason. That said, my personal favourite is 3, with 2 perhaps being my least favourite despite it being seemingly the fan-favourite.

I don't think Kazooie being better than Tooie is necessarilly an unpopular opinion these days. shrug I've never actually played the latter.

Can't comment on Gex!

The funny thing is I realized that Celeste is even better than I thought. Or at least what it was going for works even better. Because its a decently challenging game with a focus on a main story that is also filled with various types of extra levels and challenges that quickly ramp up the difficulty to sometimes ludicrous degrees.

And then I realize that the entire main story is about trying to do something as difficult as climb a mountain, just for your own sake and despite/because of your own issues. And that level of doing something difficult for simultaneously significant yet arbitrary reasons is so perfect for a game filled with challenges like that. Especially based on how the last (normal) level goes, and the general direction of what the game goes for, it feels like it does an excellent job to encourage you to try these absurd extra challenges. Like I'd never even considered this until like a couple of days ago, which is weird because I already kinda got that feeling from level 7.

That's ultimately a good example why I feel Celeste does in fact earn its own hype. Because it's rare that the difficulty of a game (especially a platformer) felt so naturally integrated into parts of the story, and I don't think I would've played as much of the sometimes too difficult parts of the game if it didn't pull that off. That and the super quick checkpoints, without those this game is so, so much worse.

Of the 3 games in Super Mario 3D All-Stars, Super Mario 64 has the best swimming controls.

Hope you're having a good day.

Multi-platform games should use Switch footage for their trailers.

There's a lot of kinda to blatant dishonesty about some of those multi-console trailers. Doubly so when those trailers end up on Nintendo's youtube channel.

That also kinda feels like a reason why the Cloud versions of Switch games exist. Because technically that footage is true on someone's Switch somewhere! So the fact that won't reflect most people's experiences apparently doesn't matter. :V

Going off of @Zuljaras's comment, I don't really care for Splatoon either. I mean, it's fine, I guess, but it's not good.
