I'd like to see XC3 or Stray win, though I certainly wouldn't begrudge GoW: Ragnarok or Elden Ring the win.

XC3 or Stray winning would probably set off the biggest "gamer" meltdown though, so they would be the funniest winners.

@RR529 If XC3 won I think it would be the Last of Us 2 controversy all over again. Probably not nearly as overblown, though.

Well the weather here in Ireland could apparently get so bad that I won't be able to head to school due to a snowstorm....I might have more time to watch TGA than I thought.

@Grumblevolcano Considering how Genshin isn't even from 2022....yeah that makes me very mad. Throw a bone to Frontiers at least, that's probably been the most well-received Sonic game in recent memory in terms of fan reception!

@StarPoint I think there was a different reason the last of us 2 winning was controversial and it had nothing to do with the quality of the game. There werw quite a few people who didn’t care about it muddying the water with a bunch of bad faith criticisms. Sure there were alot of people who reasonably didn’t like it though.

This does not spark confidence these are the game awards not the film awards. Why does Jeff feel the need to always bring non gaming stuff to his shows. It’s not like the oscars brings in musicians to promote thier new songs

To be fair to Genshin, it's not like it came out in 2020 and that was the end of it. Rather, it's a ongoing live-service game that is continually having new content added. The Game Awards acknowledges these kinds of games with their own category, for which it's also a nominee.

Bearing all that in mind though, I don't think it's had a particularly great 2022. Sumeru is a pretty bland region and it's even worse for grinding and talky quests. Mainly, though, the Players Voice award mostly comes down to the size of the fanbase and how well it can get motivated.

People have been actively rallying against Genshin winning ever since it got a huge lead overnight. Stray, God of War, and Sonic Frontiers all shot up so much in votes that Sonic began to go toe-to-toe with Genshin again, only for the website to be overloaded; now we can't even see the poll because the API crashed

I suspect they're hiding the numbers because there have been spikes in voting numbers that could pretty much only be explained by the use of automated voting bots.

Whoever wins now, it's going to be seen as illegitimate and worthless. That's not necessarily a bad thing.
