@Mariotag Yeah, usually in Smash for WiiU, I mained Fire Emblem characters despite not having played the games at the time Smash for WiiU released. I do not think I had any of the DLC packs for that game though. In Ultimate, I used to play as Corrin, the Pits, and a bit of Palutena. I didn’t start using the DLC characters until later and swapped to Banjo and Hero as mains, but I didn’t get their DLC packs until 2021, so I was a few years late when it came to playing them. I remember seeing those reveal trailers during the Direct live and going “Cool! Who are these characters?” since I didn’t play the games they were from at the time. I play lightweight characters, but I do sometimes play as some heavyweight characters like King Dedede, but some are kind of hard for me to control. I also find Bayonetta hard to play as despite her being a more lightweight character.
I turned my avatar into a GIF using this free Adobe feature that can easily turn a video into a GIF. You just have to take a recorded video, trim it a bit, and choose the video quality. I am considering doing it again, but with a different character this time. I find using still images as avatars is simple and easier, not to mention the images retain their high quality compared to GIFs, since I have to lower the quality so that it works on NL.
I also forgot to say that World of Light was tedious at times too! Also doesn’t help the fact that the map was more board game-esque. The final fight and the fights leading up to it were great, plus I found the ending cutscene so visually stunning and pretty with all the Spirits flying in trails in the sky and being free of Galeem and Dharkon’s control. Some of the battles were hard though. The hardest I remember was this battle against a Zero Suit Samus that had a master Metal Gear Solid spirit, and I recall that the condition was that the floor was poisonous and gradually drained health, not to mention the stage you fight Samus in has no platforms you can get on to avoid getting poisoned, so I had to try so many times to defeat her since she had such a big advantage. Some other conditions I found hard was ones where they gave the fighter immediate Final Smashes out of nowhere and trying to avoid them, as well as fighters being made of metal the entire time and the hurricane winds that push you off. I struggled the most with spirits that had three or four stars, which meant that they would be hard to fight. While 100% World of Light without spirits is probably possible, it sounds super difficult with all of the advantages your opponents will have against you. It’s even harder when you start the mode and don’t have a plethora of Spirits in your inventory to counteract the conditions of the battle.
“Woah-shi! It’s a double Yoshi explo-shi!” - Yoshi’s Woolly World ad, 2015
If you’re curious, the character in my PFP is Flaky from Happy Tree Friends.
@Pastellioli Ah. I haven't used Adobe in ages.
Yeah, my lightweight main is a bit different in how they play from other characters, so switching to a heavyweight would be really awkward. And, I find the DLC characters a bit overpowered tbh. Along with some new characters. One of the flaws Smash Ultimate has is the new characters make the OGs more or less obsolete. I've seen nightmares regarding Bayonetta, though I think she's been nerfed since smash Wii U. Honestly, what might end up being the best part of a smash ultimate deluxe, unless they add more modes, would be actual character balance when comparing the OGs to the newcomers.
WoL definitely has those issues. I don't think no spirits 100% is feasibly possible. Those high winds, and lava floor stages in particular are the problem. I've tried fighting the wind, and it's effectively impossible. (Though I haven't tried with a heavyweight...) I vaguely recall an MGS spirit being a pain, but not all that well.
Anyway, got anything you've been doing lately?
@Mariotag With that Might crystal, I apparently had uncovered that part of the map but never actually explored it. I likely thought that area was blocked off since I ran into invisible walls elsewhere. The bell didn't even go off at first.
You've mentioned exactly why KH put me off: all the multimedia mumbo jumbo that I'd have to consume just to catch up. And then of course the PS exclusivity since most of the systems I had exposure to as a kid were Nintendo or Sega related.
Another issue I have with streaming is it is very Internet reliant. Some people don't have good Internet (like my parents) so must still either pay for satellite or cable...or stick with public broadcasting. Buffering videos at their place takes forever. My parents have broadband, but they're at the end of an oversold rural line and also live in a wooded area, so cell phone signals aren't always guaranteed either. And during bad weather? Forget it lol. I think we're to the point where Internet should be a public utility and not a luxury.
Which GBA Harry Potter game were you interested in out of curiosity?
@Pastellioli I had to ban myself from Pinterest since it's a rabbit hole of web browsing and ideas lol. Way too much time was sunk into it at one time. But yeah, another good place to fish for ideas. You don't have to finish everything if something doesn't hold your interest. Free Time is finite, so you should spend it doing what you truly want.
I never got into Overwatch, though I like the visuals. I also assumed it was a sub based game, and I'm trying to stay away from those for now. With Rare's platformers, have you played Donkey Kong 64? I've heard mixed things about the game and might try it in the future. I didn't grow up playing the older Smash games but almost did pick up Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on Switch. I convinced myself against it since I learned fighting games I buy usually collect dust.
That's crazy that Crunchyroll isn't as comprehensive as I thought when it comes to anime; I had heard their library is very vast. Though I suppose Yo-Kai Watch isn't nearly as popular as many others in the West. That could be a deciding factor for at least non Japanese audiences.
@Tyranexx Ahaha.. Your internet woes sound like mine! We're still on DSL 3mbps plus landline for $150 or so a month. Naturally, the only streaming apps that actually work properly are Netflix, and youtube on anything other than my smart TV. I've tried others. Hulu is a regular struggle ever since an update was forced earlier this year to get me off ps4 version, and onto, ugh, Disney... Crunchyroll is an I rarely use it deal. In regards to your comment regarding crunchyroll's library, they really don't have everything. There's still stuff without licenses for streaming. For example, if you wanna watch Slayers, an old 90s anime I really liked (and started with), you used to be able to watch it on Funimation. But the license didn't transfer to Crunchyroll. So you might find DVDs somewhere, but that's about it.
The HP game I was interested in was GBA Prisoner of Azkaban.
So, was it the same place I described as having my last might crystal? And how did you reach it? The fact that falling from high up results in out of bounds respawn, regardless of if there's ground down there is actually kinda interesting.
I was very much a Nintendo kid. My first main exposure to KH was 358/2 Days on DS, which, while the gameplay lacked, the story was something else. I was legitimately depressed for months until I could buy a ps2 to see more.... Rather frustrating. They did make the collections later, but, the theater only games in the collection are most definitely missing something in each and every case. For example, Re:Coded was a heavily gameplay oriented game, with the story in some regards being creative rehash. Direct opposite of 358/2 Days, for which the theater version I think omitted some stuff, and changed some other scenes. And the KHUX Back Cover obviously had nowhere near the full story of KHUX. There are ppl calling for a remake of that one. Meanwhile, I'd say remake all the mobile games.. In both of the ones I played, the gameplay was boring and grindy. You only would play them for the story, or for dailies.
Oh yeah, forgot to comment on your DK64 and Smash comments.
Smash is ultimately designed to be a sort of party/fighter game. It distinguishes itself from other fighters by having the controls simplified. As someone who also can't get into traditional fighters, it makes a big difference. But I would recommend the gamecube and wii games in the series over the others.
DK64 was fun for me. It can get a little overwhelming at times though, and there is backtracking.
@Mariotag I’m super used to lightweight characters, not so used to heavyweight, so I think I’d do bad playing as some. Though, there are some lightweight characters I do suck at using besides Bayonetta. I remember once me and my brother were playing and he wanted me to play as Cloud while he plays as Sephiroth, but I sucked at using Cloud and he wiped the floor with me since he was used to using Sephiroth. I also suck at characters who have recovery moves that are hard to control, like Pyra/Mythra (since you have to be close enough to the stage to use their recovery moves successfully or you fall off and self-destruct) and the Ice Climbers, plus for the latter you have to kind of control both at the same time, and you become instantly weaker when the other Ice Climbers is KO’d.
Even though I use the DLC characters a lot, I do agree that some of them are overpowered, though Banjo and Kazooie have a kinda spammy move set and I think a lot of the Smash fandom hates going against them, mainly from the fact they have two projectile attacks that can be used endlessly (Rear Egg and Breegull Blaster, though the egg projectiles for the blaster are far more weaker than the rear egg) and Wonderwing, which is a pretty strong move despite the limit they put on how many gold feathers you use and how the feathers won’t be replenished until your KO’d. My brother actually dislikes it when I go against him as those two, and I’ll admit that most of my online wins as Banjo came from me relying a lot on Wonderwing and a few projectile moves. They both are super charming and I like using them, but I’d say that out of all the DLC fighters’ movesets, Banjo and Kazooie have the most spammy one of all. I have seen the way some people play Bayonetta in Smash 4 clips, and she’d be such a nightmare for me to play against if she was controlled by a human player and not a CPU. There are a ton of other Smash players who are so skilled at playing the game and it’s cool. I suck at traditional fighting games compared to Smash. With Smash, I know what buttons to use, but for other fighting games I just hit random buttons and hope I stick the landing.
I wouldn’t really mind a complete or deluxe version of Smash Ultimate that has all the DLC included and some fixes and additional content. I do wonder what they will do for the next entry, given that Ultimate set the bar pretty high and everyone is expecting the next entry to have a super big roster, but no one knows if they will go back to cutting the roster down and removing and adding modes again. I know that fans wouldn’t react positively if the roster shrunk again or if they reset it. I don’t have any wanted fighters for the next Smash game compared to others but more Rare characters would be cool.
World of Light had a ton of hard and nearly impossible to complete Spirit battles. Everyone cites the Pauline Spirit battle as being the worst with how Peach runs all over the place and won’t stop, but the key to that is not moving as much, and if possible, using projectiles instead of getting close and using physical attacks. Though, that was hard to complete without using a Spirit that gives you a projectile weapon and increasing damage dealt. Honestly, World of Light as a whole had a lot of potential with the premise and the antagonists plus the map, but if only it was done better than just a lot of tedious battles and having it take place on a cool map combining so many worlds that acted more as a board game. The few cutscenes the game had were wonderfully animated too! It’s just disappointing there was only around 4-5 of them (including the endings) and it made that theater mode where you can watch scenes kind of barren since there was so little of them in World of Light. I initially thought it would have more and maybe included some trailers for Smash too. It would have been so cool to see the characters all interact more besides the opening cutscene, but I should have played Brawl instead for that. I missed out on a lotta iconic and good games.
Not much! Declutterring a bit and planning to donate a bunch of my art supplies. I kinda hate having a big art supply collection since it’s such a mess to deal with and half of the materials I have go unused. I initially thought it was nice but I didn’t realize how junky it is and how much stuff I’m wasting by not using it. It’s a ton of markers plus some oil pastels and a lotta paper. I want to play more games, but I’ll have to wait until next week to get more free time to play on my Xbox; the only game I was playing on there last week was Overwatch, but I find that I’ve gotten rusty and it’s hard to win games online. I am planning on seeing Sonic 3 soon, so that’ll be exciting since it’s arriving in theaters next week. I’ve been waiting for that all year.
@Tyranexx I rarely scroll on Pinterest except a few days. I get notifications for stuff that I’ll probably like, but I rarely check it out. I wanna check some video game fanart on there! I love what I see and find on there and how inspiring it is when I draw.
Yeah, I like Overwatch’s visuals and character designs a ton; a lot of the appeal comes from the characters and their personalities and special abilities. I like Juno’s design a ton, as well as Kiriko’s. It’s a fun game, but it’s hard to win games against others. I lost a ton in my most recent plays of Overwatch.
Surprisingly, out of all of Rare’s N64 platformers, I haven’t actually played Donkey Kong 64! It mainly comes from how they haven’t re-released it on NSO, which is a bit surprising since they release a heck ton of Donkey Kong games earlier this month, but so far haven’t done DK64 or Diddy Kong Racing. there was a WiiU port of DK64 but I didn’t buy it in time before the e shop closed. I have heard a lot of opinions on the game however, some saying it’s a good game and others saying it’s like Banjo-Kazooie but has the collectathon elements dialed up to 11. Despite the reception, I would like to play it at one point (plus the infamous DK Rap I saw on YouTube a few years ago was hilarious and charming) but there are a few games I wanna try out soon, or some that I own and need to finish, like Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts. What’s causing me to slowly progress on that game was the genre shift from platformer to vehicle construction with a bit of platformer elements. I find that I’m pretty bad with creating stuff in games and having it work well. Smash has pretty simplified and easy to learn gameplay and controls compared to traditional fighting games. I’ve only played Smash for WiiU and Ultimate, plus a little bit of Melee. I like to play Smash over most fighting games because of the game controls being easy to pick up on, plus the platformer elements in the game help a lot.
Probably. Crunchyroll is missing a few anime’s, but they have a pretty big library, but I’ve only seen a few on that service. I wish Yo-kai Watch’s popularity didn’t die down and that it did better in the West. Hulu in Japan apparently has all of the Yo-kai Watch animes and I’m sad that there isn’t a streaming service here in America that airs all of the Yo-kai Watch animes. The anime and games had such cool concepts and characters but it just didn’t do well in the West and its popularity is super low in Japan now.
@Pastellioli Interesting. Good luck with your art supplies! I'll admit, I hoard some.
As for smash, yea. World of Light was a disappointment overall. It had potential, but that was wasted, though I get not wanting to repeat SSE, which itself was reminiscent of Kirby and the Amazing Mirror.
The spirit battles are generally a nightmare.
I play one of the lightest weight characters in any of the games, Jigglypuff. No recovery move at all. But in exchange, I get floaty jumps that allow for some nice air battles, and the all-powerful rest, if I can land it, because they made it FAR harder to land in ultimate imo. The dlc characters, and new characters are largely broken. I don't have much experience with Banjo. But, in 4, Corrin had this stun move that was crazy. Bayo, as mentioned. In ult, you have the likes of K.Rool, and Ridley for returning fighters. I forget if it was K.Rool you legit could not stop him from returning to the stage. For dlc, Steve has a few exploits, Sephiroth was meant to be challenging, and even had a sort of promo event for his appearance. I actually forget most of the dlc fighters though.
I also suck at traditional fighters. Even when I know the needed button presses, the timing can be so strict!
Smash Ult Deluxe would absolutely be neat, especially if they readded modes, plus new ones, and balanced the characters so the older ones aren't out of their league. As for roster for a potential new one, it would actually be the first time in series history if they reduce the roster, which they'll pretty much have to. There are many desired characters for smash, in no small part because characters who get introduced to smash tend to get more attention, and in some cases, actually ends up being the cause for a new game in their series. I personally want Golden Sun's Isaac or Felix. Maybe Midna from Twilight Princess.
As for your comment about DK64, it absolutely did dial the collecting up to 11. Each of the 5 Kongs had a bunch of collectibles and abilities exclusive to them. 100 bananas total, I forget if it was each level, or per kong. 5 Golden bananas per kong, iirc, blueprints, and some other stuff.
I personally really enjoyed the game! I'll admit, there could be some QoL features added. Like, making it so kongs can get any normal banana or blueprint. Maybe a sort of hint system that doesn't go too far.
But exploring was usually a joy. There are some neat areas in that game. And maybe a few not as neat.
Oh yeah! Speaking of smash, when I loaded my switch like, within the past hour, I saw they announced an official online tournament in the news section.
@Mariotag Thank you. It feels nice to donate some stuff. I used to like having a ton of stuff, but most of it was kind of just a novelty, and either I didn’t have time to use them or I would use other materials instead. I did donate stuff months ago, but I found I had more art supplies that needed to be donated as well.
The Spirit battles are kinda awful now that I’m thinking about it. Just very tedious, and a lot of them are unfair and difficult to do and give the enemy a huge advantage unless you use strong Spirits that counteract the enemy, as well as using a combination of items too, but it can take a while to get the right spirits to win in the battles since there is such a large collection of Spirits that you can collect. I know you can work with another player in Spirit battles, which makes it easy, but most of the Spirit battles I did myself and I failed a few since everyone else was uninterested in playing Smash. The metal Spirit battles and the battles where the enemy immediately gets a Final Smash out of nowhere and can randomly use it at whatever time were the most hardest and unfair; most of the time, that “enemy gets a Final Smash” were used for harder Spirit battles. I’m kinda surprised I was able to get some of the spirits, given some were either hard or annoying. The EarthBound spirits were also some of the worst battles the game had, given most of the EarthBound characters were represented with Villager and the Spirits were either 3 or 4-stars, so they would run around a lot and use a ton of attacks and had so many advantages, though the worst one for that specifically was the Paula spirit battle where a Villager is assisted by Ness and Ness is granted an immediate Final Smash and has increased PSI attacks. That battle was unnecessarily hard for some reason.
I have tried to play Jigglypuff, but I am pretty bad at using that roll attack she has and successfully landing the rest attack because every time I did it, it wouldn’t work and I’d leave myself open for attacks. But I know there is a lot of profesional players that know how to land the rest attack well. I’d say the DLC characters are more OP and broken than the newer characters they introduced in the base roster, cuz the DLC characters have a ton more special abilities they can sometimes repeatedly use and spam. I’ve seen Steve used pretty well and people using the minecart and building blocks skillfully. I do recall Sephiroth having a promo event where you could fight him before he released. I do have almost all the DLC characters (missing three), but I’ve seen the way some DLC characters are used and they can be absolutely powerful but broken at times and can easily defeat characters in the base roster. I’m trying to think of another DLC fighter that is also kind of disliked like Banjo moveset-wise, but Banjo is often brought up when it comes to characters with spammy movesets.
Yeah, I’d be fine with either a port or new game. I can’t get enough of Smash. I am expecting them to cut the roster down in another game, which I know would be an unpopular move since a ton of people don’t want roster cut down and having popular characters removed. I feel like they would probably have to do that for some of the DLC fighters with rights and licensing, but I do feel like they could work things out with that if the DLC fighters do come back in the next entry. People have suggested the idea that they have a new game that goes back to the series old roots and acts more like a reboot, but I kind of don’t know how that would be received if they were to do that. I remember seeing a few heavily requested characters for Smash when Ultimate’s DLC was still going on, and some of them seem like nice picks. I really wouldn’t mind whoever they put in the next game, and those picks you have are pretty nice! I wonder when the next game will happen. Maybe a few years after the next Nintendo console releases? I feel like that a new Smash game should be released in a few more years. Hoping that when they do announce another Smash game that there won’t be so many leaks since Nintendo is trying to strengthen their security. Throughout Ultimate’s development so many cool things, fighters and surprises got leaked and spoiled online and it ruined a lot of surprises. I would also like if the internet in the next game would run better since online play in Ultimate was super rough.
That’s interesting, I hear about the collectathon elements being mentioned and talked about a lot but not the exploration. I think exploration is one of the best parts of Rare’s platformers, especially in the Banjo games since the worlds in those were fantastical, magical, and fairytale-like, though not really Conker since that one was focused more on characters, writing, and comedy rather than exploration, and I also thought some of the areas and levels in that game were poorly designed on replay compared to Banjo. I could try DK64 at some point. I do want to play more games next year since I feel like I really limited the games I was playing.
Cool, they still do online tournaments? It’s cool that they are still doing that despite the game having officially wrapped up development. I never participated in those because I’m afraid my skills wouldn’t be up to par with other players.
@Pastellioli Huh. Well, I can relate about having excess stuff, but even if I'm not using it now, I do intend on eventually using it again.
The spirit battles truly were unfair. I would argue that metal enemies aren't really that big a deal, but given how overpowered recovery moves have become, I can't deny it could be an issue.
I still need to do the final spirit battle for Persona 5.
Puff's rest was absolutely made harder to land in ult. Thing is, you have to have, I think it was the center of Puff's body? Overlapping with the opponent's body. Granted, it does massive damage, and launches really far as well as easily, but ult introduced this mechanic where, if two characters overlap, they push away from each other much faster. I know of one person who can pull it off basically whenever though. Since Brawl, I stopped relying on rest.
The DLC characters are insane. I want a DX version, if only to actually balance them.
Port or new game, either would be fine. But you gotta consider Sakurai's role, and health, which goes back to Japan's work ethic. I forget if it was smash 4, or ult, where he was on an IV for a chunk of the game's development. I don't want a reboot. So many major characters would be cut. The base roster from Smash 64 has been a constant throughout the series. Licensing would be a problem for characters in a successor. Also, YES, they need to fix the online! Not just for smash, but for a majority of their catalogue. I wouldn't hold my breath about leaks being extinguished though.
There are online tournaments, yes. And not just for smash. Later this month, it'll be smash, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and Splatoon 3.
The collectathon elements are absolutely a thing that should be talked about, yeah. I had trouble with Yooka Laylee, given how frustrating it was to find things. Plus some of the objectives were particularly hard. As for the exploration, yeah! It's always neat finding new places, even the ones that don't have anything significant. The exploration can be a joy in DK64 in a lot of places. It's especially nice finding a new area with a new challenge when looking around and exploring. My personal experiences with that were from the fifth, and seventh areas.
@Mariotag I feel pretty good donating stuff. Just thinking about someone using the stuff I let sit around for years makes me happy, it’s way better than trashing it, especially if it’s fairly new or in good condition. I had stuff like paint that I didn’t use again. Most of the art supplies I had were purchased on impulse and I only used them once and never again, like paint. The biggest waste of money for me though was oil paint. I just watched a single video on how to use oil paint and bought an expensive set and paintbrushes but I didn’t finished anything and I ruined my brushes because I didn’t do enough research on it.
The metal spirit battles are only really bad if you don’t use a Spirit with the metal killer ability or an item that weakens the enemy. With the Persona Spirit battle, it’s the one with the Phantom Thieves of Hearts, right? That one is pretty difficult because of how many enemies you have to fight and the fact that they grant the enemy an immediate Final Smash if I remember. I remember doing a Gruntilda Spirit battle on the Banjo-Kazooie themed Spirit board, which wasn’t even that hard despite the difficulty level and the Spirits I had, but it was too repetitive. A lot of Spirit battles suffer from being either unfair or tedious.
So Jigglypuff’s sleep move was easier to land in earlier games? I think that the trouble I had when trying to successfully use Puff’s rest move is more on me because I only stick to around 4-5 characters, most of which are DLC. I hear about Ultimate having a few small changes compared to previous entries, but I don’t read a lot about the smaller details.
I wouldn’t mind an enhanced port retaining the DLC and core content and having some small changes and additions or a new entry altogether. I do agree that I don’t really want a reboot with a smaller roster akin to Smash 64 or earlier entries (plus I have a feeling that direction would be unpopular), but it was an interesting idea I heard a bit on NL prior to making an account. Realistically, I think a port of Ultimate would be easier to do. I heard about that happening to Sakurai, and it did happen during Smash 4’s development. I would imagine there was a ton of work he and the team did since they had to work on two versions and release them the same year. I am excited to see the future of Smash after Ultimate, and I do wonder how character licensing will go for the next game. I am hoping a ton for better online for Smash, but Splatoon always has online issues too, so hopefully they can fix the online for future entries for those two. It ruined so many battles when I was playing Smash online earlier this year. Even when my internet was working fine it would disconnect me and end matches.
I know leaks will still happen, but with how Nintendo acknowledged that they will be strengthening security, I just hope there will be less Smash leaks when they move onto the next entry. Leaks ruin and deflate surprises, and I’d say Ultimate had too many leaks occur during and after development.
I just love so many of Rare’s platformers. Banjo did a good job with the exploration, and the sequel had a ton of it because of the bigger worlds. Just so many wonders and magical stuff in those games. I definitely wanna try DK64 at one point if the exportation is very similar to the Banjo games. I’m sad Rare doesn’t make platformers anymore…they were full of so much charm and fantasy and it definitely made those games super memorable for me, though my first playthrough of the first Banjo game a few years ago was the most memorable and fun for me, especially when I was finishing up the game. I was very late to playing the Banjo games and Rare’s platformers in general.
@Pastellioli Yeah. I don't intend on trashing anything except like, really broken stuff. Was upset enough to have to trash my literally unplayable (cracked disc) copies of Mario Party 4 and 6.
But I do eventually want to get back to games I've not played in a while.
Eh. I'm used to fighting metal enemies tbf. They've been a thing for a long time now. Ultimately, their biggest weakness is they have more trouble recovering. Same for Little Mac lmao. Just throw him off a couple times, and it isn't long before recovery is impossible.
Yes. The Phantom Thieves of Hearts. I got reasonably far in it a few times, but never managed to finish. I wanna finish the spirit boards in order tbh. So I've barely touched the later ones.
Yeah, Rest was easier in older games. Primarily the easiest to use either on big enemies, or when somebody is foolish enough to jump up through a platform Puff is on. Though it's also possible to get on the spur on the moment, I'm not as good as that yet. But Ultimate makes your timing window a bit harsher by having characters repel each other faster.
Enhanced port is the way to go for now imo, but only if they can add and fix enough.
Sakurai has had to suffer with Smash development for a while. He originally intended to end it with Melee, as stated in an interview, but Iwata came up to him and was like, hey, we wanna have Smash on Wii, but if you don't join, it'll just be Melee plus online. Which Sakurai stated to be a form of blackmail.
And 4 was apparently announced without Sakurai even knowing. They actually said at the announcement, "and he doesn't know it yet, but Sakurai is working on a new Super Smash Brothers game for both Wii U and 3DS". Which apparently led to Sakurai getting predictably angry, and giving ultimatums. Kid Icarus Uprising was kinda a direct result, and followup of Brawl. So I can see other characters getting new games if they get in, maybe. The disconnects have been insane and stupid for the longest time.
How long ago did Nintendo say they were gonna strengthen security? If I'm not mistaken, since they started happening, basically every first party game Nintendo has released that was any kind of big deal has been fully leaked into ROM form about two weeks before street launch. They need to deal with that too.
Ah. I think my first Rare platformer, or at least 3d platformer, actually was DK64. I might've played some DKC before it though. Haven't got enough experience with Banjo to really relate it to DK64. Even though I am an BK endgame... But I've not gotten to play the game since 2012.
Hoosha...!!!
I watched WICKED again at my local Cinema XXI for the sixth times just now.
Still a great movie to watch while the movie is still available to watch at Cinema XXI.
Also, I was literally singing secretly during the singing parts, not every songs.
I was singing secretly, kept my voice quietly and blended with movie sound so it will not noticeable.
WICKED is the third movie I watched until six times after Trolls 3 as the first and Transformers One as the second.
If I keep watching the same movie until six times, you can tell the movie is great to watch.
This week there will be Mufasa on Wednesday.
Not sure it will be very interesting movie considering I only watched The Lion King live action movie back in year 2019 only one time and never watched again.
It wasn't that bad but it just didn't replicate the same greatness as the cartoon version.
I will skip completely sonic 3 movie as you already know the reason I was being salty with sonic 3 movie .
Even the first sonic movie in year 2020 was my regret to watch.
@Mariotag
The Lion King live action movie was looked too realistic so the goofiness from cartoon version from Timon & Pumbaa didn't really delivered in the same way.
The live action movie was mimicking the cartoon version by 99%, the 1% was for the Beyonce song Spirit.
Oh, if was about first sonic movie, it was quite inappropriate from my perspective when sonic got indifferent treatments by real world people's in USA.
I was not really surprised since sonic movie by SEGA and I knew SEGA like to being edgy and sometimes get into the inappropriate way to be stand out and mostly I don't like SEGA edginess.
Sonic 2 movie I didn't watch due to still protocol pandemic situation in year 2022 but when I overheard something that being featured in sonic 3 movie, I already completely turned off and will not watching the movie at all.
I might play certain sonic games that I think it still easy enough to play but I will not watch any sonic movies anymore except the series.
Also, I'm not a SEGA fan.
@Mariotag Oof, that stinks. Cracked and unusable game discs or cartridges absolutely suck. When I was looking through some of the markers I was donating, I didn’t even realize some of them were unusable and out of ink, so for years I had markers take up unnecessary space and didn’t check them. So yeah, I only also trash stuff that’s broken or unusable.
Oh yeah, when you are made of metal in the game it’s hard to recover and move around without nearly falling, but it makes it very easy to defeat Spirit enemies now that I remember. It does help a lot against Spirit fighters that have slow or hard to control recovery moves. When you do get onto that spirit, good luck! I know you can finish it and get the spirits. Clearing some of the Spirit boards was so satisfying, especially harder spirits.
That’s interesting. There are a lot of strong moves in Smash Ultimate that can be hard to pull off. If I remember, doesn’t Luigi have a move similar to Rest but it’s a taunt and it can deal damage if you time or use it right? I also had a hard time pulling that one off since the taunt is slow and it’s hard to get an enemy with it.
If an enhanced port of Ultimate did have enough improvements and changes and maybe a few new fighters, I would get it and play it. Though since they confirmed that the next Nintendo console would be backwards compatible and can play Switch software, I wonder if they’ll just make a new game altogether instead of a port since Smash Ultimate will likely be playable on the next console.
I actually didn’t even know all of this! I knew about how Sakurai having to use an IV for most of Smash 4’s development, but not all of that for the other games like how he wanted to end the games with Melee but they had him continue on with future games by saying that Smash for Wii would be Melee with online play, or the fact that Smash 4 was first announced without his own knowledge. I wonder how it would have been like if Smash ended early and was dormant for years. It would be crazy and kinda strange! Seeing some characters getting added to Smash and getting games after that would be cool, also because it boosts a character’s popularity and can also convince a game developer to make new games in the series they are in. Though, I remember a lot of people being shocked a few characters that got into Smash didn’t get new games after.
I believe they said something about strengthening their security back in June, either on or after the June Direct. People think they said that in response to two popular leakers getting caught and stop posting online around the time of the Direct, but also because a popular Japanese site called Niconico unfortunately suffered from a cyberattack and sensitive and private info was leaked online. I also hear about that happening so much. Because when a major Nintendo game is releasing for Switch, I hear on NL that some people already leaked the game weeks in advance and it’s terrible, and it also makes me wonder how some people got their hands on it. I am hoping that they can stop that from happening, and that the strengthened security can slow down and prevent leaks.
I should have also said I was late to the DKC games too. I liked playing those too! Though I first played the three SNES DKC games and then followed it up with Banjo a few more months later. The game show endgame in Banjo was kind of stressful when I did it. It’s a funny concept in the game, but it’s not super fun to play through since you need to rely on your memory to answer correctly and are timed doing it.
@Pastellioli Yup. Cracked discs are awful to have to deal with. I have wanted to replace both games for quite some time. But at the moment, neither my Gamecube nor my Wiis are available anyway.
The DKC games were kinda before I got into gaming period. Like, maybe the third one came out just barely after I got into it? Idk. I'm at the gameshow endgame. Don't think I actually remember enough to finish it. But I also still need to do Click Clock Wood.
It'll be a lil while before I get around to the spirit boards, seeing as I've been away from the game for so long. And yeah. Metal opponents have that fatal weakness. Unless they're Bayo, K.Rool, ROB, or a few others who can basically recover for a lengthy period potentially unobstructed.
Luigi's taunt iirc, was more an easter egg. In Melee, one of the things I eventually managed to do was get all bonuses. Some of them are kinda neat or obscure. Luigi's taunt was one of them. Actually, getting Luigi the standard way to begin with was a really neat secret. Though, I was spoiled back then, as that was an era when I used guides. But, to get him, you need to complete the first stage of adventure mode with a 2 in the seconds place (The ones position). It alters a few events that last until the end of the mode, and the significance of the 2 was something I only realized years later.
I'm still questioning how backward compatible the successor will be tbh. And I think a DX enhanced version would be great! They'd need to balance everything a fair bit though, and add a fair few new modes. I'm sorry, but the modes in ultimate are almost as sparse as in the OG. Not quite, but like, possibly the closest the series has come since its inception. Or, if smash 4 had fewer modes than ult, even it had more variety. If they added new characters, they better not be overpowered.
Yeah, a lot happened with Sakurai. He apparently became a game dev at 19 years old? I'm not 100% sure about it, but I think that's when he came up with Kirby. He's very popular. For good reason. Unfortunately, he has to deal with demands, and the insane work ethic. I'm honestly a little surprised I've not heard a similar story about Smash ult. Way back when, Brawl was a MASSIVE event to behold. He definitely makes things the best he can, but after Brawl, things felt flawed a bit more. In terms of characters getting new games, Smash 64 didn't really introduce any new games for characters, but Marth's popularity in Melee predated Fire Emblem leaving Japan. Roy was in there too to promote his game, which at the time, I think was still upcoming. Lo and behold, not long after, the prequel to Roy's game became the first FE to leave Japan. In the case of Brawl, it was explicitly stated the one of the characters would be getting a new game. Sakurai fulfilled this promise by having the same dev team make Kid Icarus Uprising. Though I don't think new games for smash characters have come since then, the series has made significant waves. Can you even imagine how much of a promo smash is for franchises? It was my first glimpse at Metroid and Starfox for one. And I don't think I'd paid much attention to LoZ before Melee.
June, huh? Well, the teraleak happened after that, soooo, uhhh. Not good enough.
As for games releasing weeks in advance, my best guess is gonna be a tossup between retailers getting copies early, and some random person always being there to take one and try it, or, due to the pre-download feature of the eshop. Technically, you do download the game early. You just can't play it yet. Officially. And there's probably some workaround for that part.
@Sunsy Good to hear you got your Christmas shopping done, I'll be going out to do some more shopping tomorrow. (Things have been really busy for me lately.) My grandmother should be visiting next weekend too, that'll be nice. Glad you're liking Princess Peach: Showtime, I should come back to that game sometime. For me, I finally finished Mario & Luigi: Brothership. It was a decent game, but I feel it could've been better.
Me too, glad I got to watch Trolls when it was available. I sure can. I still remember that True Colors scene, as well as the Can't Stop The Feeling scene and how Poppy became the queen. That movie definitely ended on a high note. It definitely has a lot of heart. Thank you, I'm sure I'll like Band Together, I'll be sure to post my thoughts in the movie thread. That's cool, I think I heard about that song being made into an animated movie. Didn't it have a dog in it? I've definitely heard of Home Alone, I probably saw bits and pieces of it long ago.
Nice, the Mario costume I had did come with his mustache as well. Likewise with the Luigi one. For Halloween, I just have my regular clothes on these days, lol.
Oh that's good, kinda like how 3DS and Wii U games have digital manuals. Some Switch games have a similar feature built right into them, like how Super Mario Odyssey shows all the moves that Mario can do. (Too bad there aren't any game manuals in NSO's retro game apps... those would've helped for a lot of their games, honestly.) I don't think I knew Sega Channel had a solitaire game, but being a Mega Man fan myself, I definitely knew of that game you mentioned. It's called Mega Man: The Wily Wars, and it's a compilation of Mega Man 1, 2, and 3 with enhanced graphics and sound (plus a bonus game when you finish MM1-3). Think Super Mario All-Stars, but with Mega Man. Did you ever play that MM game on Sega Channel, by the way? Just curious. I did see that other games like Pulseman and Alien Soldier were exclusive to SC, too, here in the states anyway.
Yep, on Nintendo Music, I see there's all the ACNH snow themes and the Toy Day theme, the Merry Mountain theme from MK8D, and the Shiveria theme from SMO. Just a few examples. Good to hear it starts up fine on iOS. Hopefully it'll be all fixed for Android devices. I guess I could clear all my apps' cache more often, since I do know how to do it and it is quite important to do.
That's cool, Interactive Entertainment does sound pretty neat. I don't think I've heard of it since I've always been mostly a console player. Having a magazine on a CD does sound futuristic, in the 90s and early 2000s at least, lol.
I think I would also like Blake Stone more than Wolfenstein for the reasons you've mentioned. I do like futuristic/sci-fi settings. I did try out Call of Duty 2 on the 360 years ago, but I didn't like it that much. Never played Medal of Honor or the other CoD games, and I'm not too interested in those personally.
Yeah... I guess they want to have those demos exclusive to store kiosks or something? It was a good haul for sure, I can get pictures of my new ornaments if you'd like. It's been a bit of a tradition I've had going haha. Best of luck on wrapping up your tree, if you haven't already.
"Give yourself the gift of being joyfully you."
Playing: Mario Kart World, Disney Dreamlight Valley
Ask if you want to be Switch friends with me, but I'd like to know you first. Thanks! ❤️
Late replies mostly because I've been enjoying some games lately. Mostly Modern Combat Blackout and Wolfenstein Enemy Territory for multiplayer, and Jagged Alliance: Rage since I picked it up via GOG's winter sale. Been playing those and also enjoying Christmas movies with mom in the evening on most nights.
Week was good though, went out for my monthly pizza trip, and ended up ordering Dunkin' Donuts as a for me and mom as something I wanted to do for the Christmas season.
@Sunsy Ah. For me, instead of the error, I'm simply logged out, if I'm not typing straight away.
So it did have online multi. Good.
Yeah, followers are hard for me to get. I don't really do art, and that, alongside major projects and celebrities, are what draw followers in.
I dunno when exactly we're gonna go, but hopefully it isn't too far away.
For me, I stay logged in and sometimes when I come to the site, usually like after a month of staying logged in, the corner says "Guest" and dark mode is turned off. I prefer dark mode, it's easier on the eyes when typing and reading.
Me niether, I want to talk to my friend about when we're going so we can go see Sonic 3 together, so I'm waiting to talk to him. I am excited for the movie, I just hope we see it before I see someone posting a spoiler or something online. At least it doesn't have an early release anywhere (I know of anyway). The struggle of avoiding Trolls Band Together spoilers was real, especially since it came out in Europe a whole month ahead of the US release (this is why we need one release the same day, worldwide).
@Sunsy If I do type these out on PC, I typically use Notepad++ lol. Which I prefer typing on PC, but I have my phone on me a lot more than my personal machine (and I don't use my work machine for personal stuff besides ordering food). I've had the site swallow the occasional post. Errors 500 and above are server side errors and there's nothing we can do when they happen sadly.
I love most Italian food more than I possibly care to admit lol. Especially pizza, some pastas, and calzones.
Honestly, I never heard of Notepad++, I usually tend to use Notepad because it's right there on my PC. If I type anything, I have LibreOffice installed, Notepad is just an easy way to make a copy and pasted note, or just make a simple txt file of something.
Italian food is great, I think tend to get my enjoyment of making it from mom's side of the family. Grandpa was Italian, and because of that it just passed on through mom and me and my brother. I'm actually proud I have my own meatball recipe I made myself.
@Sunsy It’s so interesting, the game I’ve seen have the most speedruns and one of the faces of speedrunning is Mario 64. There was this pretty notable video a few years ago where a YouTuber watched a blindfolded speedrun of Mario 64 but proved that the speedrunner cheated and could still see with the blindfold, and that video is what kind of introduced me to speedrunning and piqued my interest in it. I also enjoy hearing the people skilled in speedrunning break down complex techniques and explaining them. Now that I’m talking about it, I wonder what recent speedrunning discoveries have been made. I haven’t watched a speedrunning video in a while, but I’ll probably check what new stuff there is for speedrunning. Super curious to see if there have been any new records made for a few N64 games.
I see, that is interesting. I would guess that the Japanese localization changed the script and dialogue a bit, which happens a lot with game localization. I think some people thought that the WiiU Boom game didn’t have awesome dialogue, so that is interesting that people liked the dialogue in the Japanese version more. I didn’t even know that people liked the Japanese version more!
Yeah, it still stinks that people’s wishes for a new game came true just for it to get cancelled. I hear that Free Radical’s parent company, Embracer Group, isn’t liked much because of how they have so many studios, but don’t manage them well and close them. I think the most notable closure I heard of under Embracer Group was Volition, but I read that they actually shut down a ton more studios they owned and cancelling new games in popular and loved game franchises. It stinks a lot that happened to all the people working at those game studios and having their work and games cancelled and scrapped, plus the fact some games weren’t given second chances. I would love if some lesser known games also got more second chances or revivals, in fact, a few that I’ve played come to mind for me.
It was interesting reading a bit about the development stories for DKR and Banjo. There was another Rare game called Jet Force Gemini that featured two human protagonists, so Rare did have a couple human protagonists. Though, a lot of their main characters were animals, though one exception to that I can think of is Kameo, since the protagonist in that one was an elf but she was human-like.
I always liked Inside Out a ton, I remember seeing it in theatres almost a decade ago. I though Sonic 2 was a pretty good adaptation of the games, and what I like the most about the movies is the as they go on, they start to take more elements from the games and begin to feel more like Sonic, and 3 seems like it’s going to do more of that. Having pizza and watching Knuckles must have been fun, sometimes when me and my family get fast food we watch something, but it’s only for a bit and we don’t finish what we are watching. I really hope I don’t come across any spoilers for Sonic 3 online, I’ll have to avoid using Instagram until I see it, or just be careful with spoiler-y posts, because it’s very common for social media accounts to talk and post stuff about hyped up movies. I remember I spoiled all of Sonic 2 before seeing it and regretting it once I saw it, and I told myself I wasn’t going to do that again for the next movie. I really want to know what character they are going to show in the end credits, because I think a month ago they were teasing that they were going to reveal a new character for the films at the end of 3, and I wonder who it’ll be. I am hoping I can see it as soon as possible once it releases. Hopefully on Christmas Day, but I have a feeling the theaters are gonna be packed if I see it that day because everyone is off of work, so I feel like that may not work.
Yes, I’m glad that I didn’t put a posting schedule for my artwork, because I’d be even more stressed out if I didn’t get a drawing done. My art tends to take a few days to finish, but I completed my recent one a day later after starting. When I was obsessed with posting art online, I wanted to get the recording equipment so badly, mainly just a white light bulb to replace the yellow light I had and a phone stand, but I kind of realized it wasn’t going to be worth it in the end given that I didn’t have time to record art videos.
it’s cool you collect figures. I’m not a collector of figures or toys, but I think it sounds like a fun hobby. I’ve seen these really big figure collections on Instagram for specific characters that people put a lot of dedication and money out into them, and I love the passion people have for figure collecting. I would like to maybe own a figure or two or a plush of some of my favorite video game characters, but the good quality ones are so expensive. The only figure I have is a Funko pop of D.va from Overwatch when I was obsessed with that game years ago. I really wanted these Nendoroid figurines they made for some Overwatch characters (since they were far more detailed and closer to the original designs), but they were too expensive, so I had to settle on a Funko instead, though I’m not a fan of how Funko pops look.
Usually the lighting here is good in the morning, but it gets dark so fast it’s almost impossible to take photos of my art without the yellow light. It’s so annoying to do because it affects the colors of my art a lot and makes them look warmer and less vibrant. For some drawings it isn’t so visible when my art is filled with color, but for artwork that has some white showing, you can see the warm light. I posted this Conker drawing recently and took the picture in the warm light, but the drawing wasn’t affected by the warm light at all because the paper used a lot of colors and was filled up. For my original drawing though, because most of the paper was not colored, you could see the light making the paper look yellowish. I dislike it when it makes the paper look like that. In the past I’ve had sketchbooks that got ruined by being exposed to light for so long it caused them to yellow, so I have to avoid letting my drawings stay in yellow light for long. Yellowing can really make the paper look ugly and can ruin drawing a ton.
I remember that incident with the blindfolded player cheating that speedrun. It's been awhile since I've seen new speedruns, but I do remember shortly after starting to play Trolls Remix Rescue, I found someone on YouTube already speedrunning the game. I have the game on both Switch and PC, the the PC version even has an achievement for speedrunning, beating the game in two hours or less. Though, the game took me between 4-5 hours to beat it, however, it is possible to speed through the game. Other speedruns that are fun to watch is classic Mario games.
Maybe, I do know people enjoyed watching the Japanese cutscenes from Sonic Boom more than the US release. I still found it cool because people just didn't like the game, yet they still got enjoyment from the Japanese scenes themselves.
Yeah, the Volition shut down really surprised me. I like their classic game Red Faction on PC, it was actually the first online game I ever played, the old demo supported online play, and I later got the game as a birthday gift. So I was really surprised to see they got shut down. Though keep in mind I haven't played their other games aside from Red Faction and Red Faction II, or if you want to count it, Descent when they were called Parallax Software.
Ok, so Jet Force Gemini. That's one I remember wanting to play, but never did. I remember the old commercial for it, so I must have forgotten about the human protagonists in that.
Yeah, from what I've seen in the trailers so far, Sonic 3 feels like it's going to be faithful to Sonic Adventure 2. That has me excited since Sonic Adventure 2 is one of my favorite games. It was a fun time, we ended up finishing all six episodes. That sounds nice, sometimes I like to do a dinner and a movie. Last time I did that I made lasagna and watched The Garfield Movie. I'm dreading the day spoilers get posted. At least it didn't have an month early release like Trolls Band Together did. The Trolls fandom was on edge last October and November because Universal released it early in Europe. The struggle was real.
Indeed, it makes doing artwork more fun since there's no due date or anything.
Yup, I do. I love collecting Trolls Mineez, whenever I go to Target I always pick up a pack or two. They're like miniature (1.5 inch) figures of the Trolls. There's lots of variants to collect too. They look like this.
I have a bunch I collected within the past year, even got one when I went to one of the movie showings last year. They stay safe in a container, though I like to keep some of the duplicates out by my computer. It's usually characters people like is why they collect, if I didn't like Trolls, I probably wouldn't have these Mineez figures. Plushies are great, I have some of those too, mostly of my favorite characters from animated movies, shows, and gaming. I have a few Pops too, not a lot of them. Mostly Trolls, Smurfs, and a few others as Pops. I still remember Funko when they made show accurate My Little Pony figures, those were amazing.
I'm in the same boat, I usually get the best lighting in the morning hours. It's 3:43 PM EST when I'm typing this, and it starts to get darker early. Within the next hour, the sun will set. Whenever I need to take a picture of what I drew, I have to do it in the morning, or early afternoon latest. I hear you on that, who knew yellow lights could really affect pictures.
The resident Trolls superfan! Saw Trolls Band Together via early access and absolutely loved it!
