@Pastellioli I can like mature humor, but it depends on how it's used. I like some adult cartoons like The Simpsons, Futurama, and Bob's Burgers for example, but I can't stand others like South Park and Family Guy (the cutaways can be funny, the actual episodes not so much). But yes, I do hope Conker's Bad Fur Day comes Switchside eventually.
I do think we may see more of Rare's N64 library at some point. I would have once not considered this very likely until GoldenEye 007 hit NSO. I'd like to see some of their Xbox library too, but my guess is Microsoft has the final say (Not unlikely that they could, but somehow I don't see MS going full free market). It's a shame Rare was snapped up by MS as they once had a great relationship with Nintendo.
I completely get having limited time to pursue hobbies and passions. There are only so many hours in a day. I think it would be cool if you became a professional artist, but that's ultimately up to you. I've used https://postimages.org/ for image sharing and URL embedding. It doesn't require setting up an account, and you can limit how long it sits out on the web. Image embedding here is usually [ img=url_goes_here ] [ /img ] without the gaps. An example is below this paragraph and can be seen if you quote my post. I think I have issues with digital art - and I did give it a fair shake - since it's easier to control my own hands vs. relying on a mouse or touchscreen controls.
Most of the YT videos I watch are related to gaming (Typically a couple RPG YouTubers, once in awhile more general ones that don't annoy me, and some historical or modern fact and general fan accounts like Zeltik and Unseen64), some comedy like Dorkly (though this is hit or miss), old show clips/reruns, some historical stuff, and some of the most random stuff involving nature and animals. YT can be a rabbit hole though; don't ask me how I got onto caving disasters awhile back. I can't really stand most of the most popular YouTubers these days, but I'll do a bit of Scott the Woz now and then.
@Sunsy I looked up Chinese dumplings, and they can (though not always) look like gyoza, which is a Japanese pork dumpling/pot sticker. I have had gyoza and love it. I would certainly try those kinds of rice balls, though I do limit fried food. I make the occasional exception if it's something new or something I really like though. XD I'd recommend visiting different parts of the Midwest sometime if you can manage it. There's a lot more to see and do in "flyover" country beside driving and staring at corn, especially if you like getting out in nature now and then.
@Tyranexx The day Conker possibly comes to NSO is the day I’ll explode! It would be so unbelievable to see it on there. I’ll still probably stick to the Xbox port and remake, but I still want to see it make its way on there. I’d love for them to drop another N64 NSO update next month, but they could be saving that for September. I still do associate Rare’s N64 games with Nintendo more than Xbox.
Even though the Xbox is my main gaming console alongside the Switch, I do think Rare’s games that came after the MS buyout could have performed better on Nintendo’s consoles, and I think most of Rare’s fanbase are Nintendo users rather than Xbox users. A lot of Rare’s OG Xbox and 360 titles seemed to fit Nintendo more than Xbox, and it sounded like that during the 2000s their games had started to perform less well after they finished releasing N64 games. To me, it only seemed that they started to experience success again with Rare Replay in 2015 and then Sea of Thieves three years later, which is their most successful title and outdid their previous games commercially. Although I am not going to play it, it makes me happy seeing that they started to experience success again after what seemed to be a decade of low sales and mediocre to average reception. From what a lot of news has said, however, Rare apparently is a mess nowadays in terms of its studio management, and its next title doesn’t seem to be releasing anytime soon, given they had to reboot it various times and they actually do not know what direction to take it in.
I can remember watching Dorkly years ago, but I really don’t watch their stuff anymore, but I can remember some stuff, like a video they did where I believe Sonic was in the universe of Pokémon. I will also admit that I don’t keep up with most popular YouTubers, and it’s only Scott the Woz that I sometimes watch. I’ve heard of ones like SomeOrdinaryGamers, but I don’t watch any other game YouTubers. The most iconic and well-known ones like JonTron I also don’t watch. The only video from him I watched was his pretty memed and probably iconic Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts video and I’ll say that even though that video is from a decade ago, the goofy but well-done editing killed me a ton. Though, I think JonTron is somewhat controversial from something he said, but I don’t know about the situation enough, so I’ve only watched a single video from him.
Aside from that, I also like to watch film and show YouTubers like DazzReviews (though he isn’t a super popular one, he has a pretty good following and is well known to me) and I also watch really random memes and clips that show up on my homepage. I’ll watch anything really.
@Sunsy I also had the opportunity to dump my vacation photos from my phone onto my PC this weekend. Here are a few food pics from my vacation. ^_^
Indian Curry
Poke Bowl
Vietnamese Stir Fry w/white rice
Turkey Pot Pie & Salad (Irish Bar & Grill)
Awesome chocolate s'mores coated ice cream cone
Awesome Tonkotsu Ramen restaurant
Japanese street crepes (Harajuku?)
@Pastellioli whatchu doin with that bar of chocolate?
And hello. I hope you are doing great, friend. Been a hot second since we last chatted.
I have a decent bit of nostalgia for jontron.
Dorkly is insufferable. Never liked a single video. Too much shock value.
Dazz? I’m surprised I’ve never heard of him. I know a lot of obscure guys, like The Great Clement.
Surprisingly I disagree on the Xbox vs Nintendo bit. But only on a technical level. The Xbox ports of N64 titles are objectively superior. Tonally however I would agree.
@Tyranexx I’m glad you added “weekend”, if you told me you ate all that in a day, I’d call you Wario’s long lost cousin.
Tons of giant sweets. I really like them.
Indian food is heaven. Very common in Kuwait.
I will likely never eat Tonkatsu ramen (unless there’s a chicken version) since we don’t eat pork. But everything else looks divine. Must be very tasty food.
(Also your message came right after I sent mine, so I only now see it)
Are you enjoying Layton?
@Pastellioli I'd definitely like more Rare titles to come Switchside, though I'm not in the know to ultimately knowing how feasible this would be. It's been some time since I've read up on Rare's history, but I know some of their titles after the MS buyout weren't nearly as well received as they had been on Nintendo platforms. I also know the censored Xbox version of Conker is considered subpar to the N64 version. I think they fell off my own radar until Rare Replay was announced. It wasn't quite enough for me to finally grab an Xbox even though I would have liked a 360 back in the day (broke high school/college student). I've not played Sea of Thieves but know it's a quality title as well.
I don't religiously watch Dorkly. Some of that channel's content used to be really good, but now it's very hit or miss for me. I miss the Pokemon Rusty videos though. Another channel I used to like was CollegeHumor, but they lost a lost of their decent staff and are now under another name completely IIRC. I don't really pay a lot of attention to YT and Twitch controversies, partially because I don't watch a lot of the really popular personalities anyway. I do recall JonTron came under fire, but not the details. I used to watch Markiplier, but something changed about his videos - I think after the death of a good friend - and I didn't really enjoy them anymore. Probably the only YT channel I sometimes watch that's movie-related is CinemaSins.
@Yousef- Dorkly's content used to be a lot better. Now I consider the channel hit or miss. The quality widely varies.
Nope, those were over a period of about a week. My friend and I walked and biked a lot of places or took public transportation - easy to do where we were - so I actually didn't put on any vacation weight lol. Indian food isn't common where I live, so it was neat to try some. As for the Tonkotsu ramen, that particular restaurant also had an extensive vegan menu for those who don't eat meat or must watch certain kinds. My friend ordered off it - she has IBS and goes with vegan options half the time since they're not likely to have butter and some oils that bother her - and liked her dishes too.
I'm enjoying Layton's Mystery Journey and intend to finish the game. I like how the story is in vignettes and isn't a huge all-encompassing plot. The puzzles are a mixed bag compared to previous entries though.
@Yousef- Greetings again! It has been a while since we have talked.
I’m just gonna simply eat it! I did buy one yesterday, but it was gone super fast, so I’m gonna just buy a bigger one and share it. I’ve been wanting sugar a bit recently, but I think the last time I did have a sweet drink I got so sick, so I’m not going to overdo the sugar. I love sugar but I get so sick when I have a ton of it. Whenever I eat a full cup of ice cream, there is a 50/50 chance my stomach will not hurt or will hurt, so I only really eat it in small portions.
I also wouldn’t call myself a Dorkly fan or longtime viewer of them. I can agree that their videos seemed so full of shock value the last time I saw their videos maybe a decade ago. I don’t think I ever laughed at a video they made despite coming across their videos before. I never watch videos that focus on excessive shock value, they don’t interest me and can come off as disgusting, especially when it’s done just because and not for an actual reason.
I really think DazzReviews is funny. He’s British, so he has a bit of sardonic humor tossed in. I really like watching his videos on bad movies and shows. I recently watched a video he did on Megamind Rules!, which is this show they made for the film Megamind and a lot of people did not like the show. However, I will say that it has a great theme song!
I do also think that the Xbox ports of the N64 games are better. I maybe should have said that the tones and aesthetics of some of their games seemed more suitable for a Nintendo console than an Xbox console, but the Xbox games do perform better.
“Woah-shi! It’s a double Yoshi explo-shi!” - Yoshi’s Woolly World ad, 2015
If you’re curious, the character in my PFP is Flippy from Happy Tree Friends.
I got a new Tamagotchi Uni (it had a good discount for prime day!) and I’m just astonished by how small it is compared to my previous color model (Tamagotchi Pix).
It’s hard to tell on the picture, but the Pix is also about two and a half times thicker.
@Tyranexx That is true, a lot of people say that after Conker on the N64, their games were less well received, performed decently but nowhere near impressive as some of their N64 games, and got more mediocre or average reception. I also think a majority of their old staff leaving had something to do with it as well. People say it’s moreso Microsoft who ruined them, but the staff say that isn’t the case.
The Conker remake is considered the more subpar and worse version than the original and the censoring is why a lot of people refuse to play it or dislike it heavily, though if you do find out about the game development of the remake and discover that it was originally supposed to be fully uncensored and uncut (plus the game was apparently advertised like that) then the criticisms do become more understandable. I did not mind it a lot (also since I had the N64 version) and I think the remake is better than the original with its gameplay and controls, plus the graphics are pretty dang impressive for an original Xbox game, but if you are looking for a raunchy experience that is more charming, doesn’t censor mild swears almost every single time and treats them like the f-word, and doesn’t stray away from its original vision, you are better off playing Bad Fur Day and not the remake. Even though I like the remake a ton, I thought the censoring with the language was silly, and I didn’t really like the more grittier feel they were going for, plus the cartoony art style and charm is wiped from it.
@Eel huh. I wasn’t expecting it to be so tiny. Looks quite crisp too. @Tyranexx
I’m glad you got to try it. Everyone should eat it at least once in their lives. I do like LMJ’s plot, but agree the puzzles are, admittedly, a little… ungood. @Pastellioli
Hope it was a tasty chocolate if you had to get it again. Sugar is admittedly my drug but surprisingly I’ve never been a big fan of chocolate bars and potato chips, just not my thing. In Kuwait, baked goods are more common and eaten more frequently. Lots of baked products are produced locally and as such are really cheap compared to those “American sweets” that I’m somewhat iffy on. I’ve grown to dislike artificial flavors because of my background but do not make the mistake thinking I’m some health-freak, definitely the last thing on my mind if you knew my diet and what I love to eat.
@Yousef- I’m not 100% sure but I think the screens might be identical. However it does look bigger and sharper thanks to the fact the device itself is so much smaller.
@Tyranexx that chocolate and s'mores ice cream would likly be the death of me... though we did have some tasty frozen yoghurt the other day (added almonds and chocolate sauce that hardened up nicely) that threatened to burst my stomach.
We've been on a food journey here too, I've eaten Malay, Thai, Japanese, Korean BBQ, Chinese, and of course, my favourite, Italian. Had quite possibly my favourite lasagna of all time yesterday at this Italian bistro, served in a delicious tomato sauce. The base was particularly delicious because of how the pasta sheets absorbed just enough of the sauce.
@Yousef- I did enjoy the chocolate. It was Hersheys, and I bought a giant chocolate bar with 25 pieces that I shared with my mom and brother. My mom recommended I buy another giant chocolate bar, which I did with the intention of sharing it with them again since it sounded like they wanted more, but they are both over it, which I can understand, so I am stuck with a giant bar of chocolate that I’ll have to destroy myself for a few days lol. I didn’t feel sick luckily. I like both natural and artificial sugars, but I am deciding that after I finish the chocolate that I’ll try to lay off on artificial sugars, plus a few days ago I was gulping down on zero sugar sodas as well, so I don’t want my health to get out of control. Zero sugar sodas aren’t healthy despite their name. Sometimes I’m in the mood for sugar but when I have a lot I get so sick of it.
I do also like to eat healthy or eat less junk food and I also think exercise is important (plus I have been doing it more recently), but I wouldn’t also call myself a health nut either. Stores here in America have baked goods too, but they are full of artificial sugars and are way more fatty as well. I have a high metabolism so I don’t really have to worry about it, but I still don’t like shoving a lot of fatty foods and sugar down my stomach and then feeling sick afterward, so I mostly avoid buying sweets when I’m at the store with my family. Only when I do feel like it. I remember years ago my mom was at a restaurant and came back with a chocolate and peanut butter cheesecake slice that me and my sister tried, and even though we both have sweet tooths, we thought it was too sugary and gross, and I think it made me feel slightly sick.
@Pastellioli I will not lie, I’d gobble up that giant bar like it’s monody’s business. I trust my unhealthy iron stomach too much to already know I’d swallow that with ease.
Zero sugar sodos will still not convince me to drink soda. Soda with a burger? Sign me up! Soda on its own? Never in my life! I got a few cans of Pepsi sitting in my bridge awaiting the day a food delivery guy forgets my soda drink. Yes. I do prepare for still like that.
My titanium stomach has nulled me to the concept of stomach sickness. Two decades of unhealthy eating will train your body to prepare for the worst. I’d tell people to toughen up, but how I “toughened up” isn’t something I’m particularly proud of.
Chocolate and peanut butter cheesecake? That sounds like a food for a psychopath, and you’re talking to one.
@Yousef- Yeah, my mom said she and my brother will probably steal a few pieces of the bar later lol. I don’t think I’d be able to finish the chocolate bar on my own in a single day. Maybe in small pieces and gradually, but I’d probably feel so bad after eating it all!
Zero sugar sodas are still unhealthy than regular sodas, since they use a lot more artificial sweeteners and that increases more heart diseases and issues and still erode teeth. They may not increase the possibilities of obesity or diabetes by much, but they are still unhealthy. I don’t really drink sodas, and I only do on occasions. I just stick to water, but I have also been drinking some tea recently. It is good that I don’t drink soda or juice a lot, since when I do drink those on special occasions, I feel less regretful over drinking them.
I used to eat super unhealthy years ago and I can remember eating so much ice cream and frozen yogurt this one time for my birthday in the 2010s, but it seems that it didn’t grant me immunity to eating lots of ice cream and desserts made of dairy despite being an unhealthy eater for too many years lol.
The baked goods sold in American stores I believe are mostly made by companies rather than a single person, so they are unsurprisingly loaded with saturated fats, so much sugar and processed ingredients since we all like sugar a bunch. Baked goods are better when you make them at home instead, plus you can modify the recipe to make them more healthier. I usually don’t like buying already made stuff.
I love peanut butter and chocolate a lot, but if it is a super loaded dessert, then I get sick of it. That drink I mentioned was from a fairly popular milk tea and beverage teahouse. The teahouse’s sweet drinks with whipped cream I believe are their more popular drinks alongside milk tea with boba pearls since it’s basically dessert. The drink I had was loaded with milk, cream and was Oreo flavored. I drank it all before me and family went to eat somewhere, so I felt really AWFUL before we started ordering and getting our food, but luckily the feeling went away eventually and I was able to enjoy the food after. I have a bad tendency to want to eat so much food at times even if it means I’ll get sick or get a bad stomachache, or when it’s something sweet, I get carried away with eating it and want to eat so much of it. That is something I need to improve on.
@Pastellioli
Water is banger. Tea is banger. You’re making the correct life choices. (Source: me)
“ but it seems that it didn’t grant me immunity to eating lots of ice cream and desserts ”
Nah you’re not missing out. Ice cream is a little overrated in my opinion.
“ Baked goods are better when you make them at home instead, plus you can modify the recipe to make them more healthier. I usually don’t like buying already made stuff”
True, I don’t like the factory stuff. In Kuwait, we have a Kuwaiti company that distributes baked goods nationally in local bakeries and everything is baked daily and has in-home flavor. Barely anything artificial.
“ I love peanut butter and chocolate a lot, but if it is a super loaded dessert, then I get sick of it.”
If it’s from Cheesecake Factory I agree. Cheesecake Factory sucks. I dunno what Detroit was smoking when coming up with it. Can’t have shyte in Detroit.
“ The drink I had was loaded with milk, cream and was Oreo flavored. I drank it all before me and family went to eat somewhere, so I felt really AWFUL ”
That sounds terrible. Oreo is overrated anyways. It’s an overprice biscuit. In Kuwait we have better biscuit packs with better values and better flavors. Although the “American” brands dominate hypermarkets, but I already dislike hypermarkets to begin with. I prefer smaller markets and co-op centers when shopping for groceries and snacks. I also typically prefer biscuits without any cream. Or wafer biscuits.
“ I have a bad tendency to want to eat so much food at times even if it means I’ll get sick or get a bad stomachache,”
Know that feeling all too well. Overconfidence is an A-hole when you’re hungry af.
Hope your stomach gets better. All these experiences sound awful.
@Yousef- Thank you. I don’t think I’ve had ice cream in a few weeks. Sometimes it’s worth it but sometimes it isn’t. Eat a full cup of that or frozen yogurt and your stomach is in for a bad time, especially mine. I combined two ice cream flavors and ate it before bed a few months ago and it slightly hurt my stomach, but it wasn’t anything bad. The cheesecake was actually from the Cheesecake Factory. I have eaten their plain cheesecake they sell in stores and I do like it, but that cheesecake with peanut butter and chocolate was too much…so gross. Although I like chocolate, some chocolate flavored foods can taste off to me, like chocolate flavored ice cream.
My sister really likes to bake sweets at home with more authentic ingredients, and my family members (like my grandma) tend to make lots of homemade food and bake desserts at home, which make me less sick when I eat them, plus they also like making their food nutritious too. Me and my sister made brownies a few months ago, and they turned out more like unfrosted chocolate-flavored cake and didn’t have any chocolate chips in them, but I still liked it, and I do think less sugar is better since I don’t feel so sick after eating them. My sister liked to make cookies a ton, and I think those tasted good. More authentic and less processed than store cookies. I don’t bake desserts anymore since I haven’t really wanted to make anything, I don’t have the time for it and we don’t have the ingredients for them, but I’d probably do that if I wanted something sweet but simple like banana bread or maybe cookies. The only time we really buy storemade desserts is for birthdays. We don’t buy them randomly for ordinary days, it seems like a small waste of money too.
Oreos I don’t hate and I wouldn’t mind eating them on occasion, but they aren’t a dessert I go crazy over or want to eat so badly. I loved them a lot when I was smaller, but after that experience I had with the Oreo milk drink, I’m probably not going to get anything Oreo flavored soon. They also get stuck in my teeth too and I have to brush real hard to get them out.
I do also think wafer and biscuit cookies are pretty good even though I haven’t had any as of late. I remember buying these flaky ones with lemon-flavored cream sandwiched in-between that were sold at this Asian store and I didn’t think it was bad, but they were small and tasted like Froot Loops cereal instead of lemon. I dislike sweets or foods that are advertised as tasting like something such as a specific fruit but they taste like something else entirely. We also got these butterscotch flavored morsels years ago when me and my family were baking cookies, and we were pretty hyped but the morsels were so NASTY. They tasted more like fruit and not what they were advertising, so we tossed them out after as the disappointment was immense. I can also recall having butterscotch pudding and that tasted bad too. Anything that tries to taste like actual butterscotch I think always manages to taste bad.
@Pastellioli I hope I convinced you that I am a psychic.
Yeah CF somehow effs even their basic plain cheesecakes. get your act together, Detroit!
Funny. We’re opposites. I rarely eat chocolate on its own but love chocolate flavor products.
Chocolate chips are kinda overrated (yeah I’m calling a lot of things overrated. What’s next? Oxygen?)
My issue with Oreos is that I cannot enjoy them on a boring evening. They’re always a little too much and are a little overpriced.
Oreo in your teeth? Now that’s even more reason to head up to Oreo HQ and kick their behinds.
Lemon? I freaking love them. Anything lemon flavored is also good.
Funnily enough I was surprised to learn the Americans have this thing called “Asian store”, considering a lot of Arab countries are in west Asia and as such tiptoe other countries like Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines, “Asian” products” are normal everyday grocery items. I mean we’re literally in the contentinet, what was I expecting? A cheesecake? Well hopefully not from CF.
Froot Loops? I get whatchu mean actually. Artificial flavors can be like that. Also had to look up morsels. Interesting.
@Yousef- You have convinced me lol. I absolutely hate getting candies in my teeth, which gives me another reason to not eat Oreos again anytime soon, it also damages my toothbrush bristles a ton! Caramel candies similarly do the same too. I am starting to realize how overrated some popular American desserts here are. Americans love cookies a lot, and I don’t really see wafers and sweet biscuits in commercials or really seeing anyone buy them. They seem to be popular in other countries like Mexico and other Hispanic states in the world. Mexican grocery stores are more common in America, and there are maybe two nearby. They have so many wafer cookies, sweets and pan dulce. A popular Mexican store here has this part with pan dulce and baked goods, and there is no limit to how much you can put in a bag and buy, so it is like a candy store sometimes.
Asian items are sold in American stores here, but most of the time it’s just a few snacks and sweet desserts like Pocky and ramen from brands like Maruchan and Buldak, but there is a grocery store that is dedicated to selling Asian foods and products from places like Japan and China, and I love going there, plus the snacks I think are priced really well there. Some of the stuff they sell there is interesting. I bought this drink called Calpico, and it’s supposed to be a citrus and fruit flavored carbonated soft drink that is popular in Japan. Fruit flavored soda does sound like it tastes bad, but I didn’t mind it and thought it was something super interesting.
I love pudding too, and my brother and dad love it too, but it’s mostly rice pudding with cinnamon that we love a lot. Plain pudding is good too, especially vanilla or chocolate, but stuff like the butterscotch flavor just ruined the pudding so much. I also love lemon or lime flavored stuff. I do like key lime pie a lot too and it’s maybe one of my favorite desserts alongside cheesecake, but I don’t know if you like it or not. I pretty much love any dessert, but they can still manage to taste nasty or overloaded and gross.
@Pastellioli funny enough, the issue with things getting stuck in your teeth is exactly why I can’t eat nuts. Which I know what you’re thinking, that sounds nuts! Don’t lie, I know you’re thinking that. Don’t confuse it with like, chicken getting stuck in my teeth. That’s a real inconvenience. No, nuts getting stuck in my teeth is more of a mild annoyance. It’s manageable in smaller quantities, but I don’t wanna eat small quantities, I wanna eat a lot of nuts but I can’t, which drives me nuts, I tell ya!
Damaging toothbrushes? Nasty. Another reason to call Oreos lameos!
I’m not surprised Americans don’t buy wafers much. Aussies have good taste though, the tim-tam slam is good. Look it up.
Mexico know what’s up. Hispanic and Arabs are like long lost siblings.
