@Yousef- I am ranting about the Miku rhythm game. I just got really annoyed with it last night and really wanted to blow off some steam with it… I think I strive for perfection in that game though and have gotten used to it, which is very bad but I really don’t know how to quit doing so. I play the localized version of it, but if I am being honest it’s sort of the inferior version of the original, mostly because it has less content and content from the Japanese version isn’t added until a year later and how the localization team sometimes aren’t the greatest with communication…
I don’t think they released a schedule for the songs and events for July in the game, which is a bit surprising to me because they often announce song and event schedules shortly before the next month starts. They often have mystery songs for each month, and they were supposed to release one in May, didn’t do so and delayed it to June, which also didn’t happen and there is no word on the song they announced or a reason why they kept delaying it. I can remember they were supposed to release a song in the English version in November last year but delayed it by a month, which is fine, but I don’t think they ever told people publicly it was delayed. I wish to play the Japanese version since a lot of my favorite songs are playable there, but I don’t have a second phone that I can set to Japan to play it. Sorry if I come off as really whiny here…I’m still somewhat frustrated with not being able to full combo that song last night, which is probably very stupid for me to do. I think maybe I should take a break from the game for a few days if it makes me this unreasonably annoyed.
However, I am feeling somewhat better after watching my brother play Smash with his friends. Lots of funny but vulgar banter. I was laughing so hard when I kept seeing him and his two friends get repeatedly destroyed by one of his friends playing as Sephiroth. I probably am going to play the game offline possibly and maybe try online, but I need to get back into the swing of things with it since I’ve gotten to used to the Xbox button layout.
@Yousef- Congrats on the promotion! Sorry if I am writing a little later, I fell back asleep.
I really love Vocaloid. I think I actually started I fall in love with it maybe back in 2015 or so, though my love for it was really strong back in 2018. I absolutely love the way the artists I listen to make them sound, and there are now a ton of similar vocal synth programs to it. I enjoy so many characters for it! My most favorite ones are probably Hatsune Miku, Kagamine Rin and Len, MEIKO, KAITO, KAFU, GUMI, Kasane Teto, Adachi Rei and Zundamon, mostly because I like their character designs and how song producers get them to sound in songs I listen to. Zundamon is probably my most favorite, since a ton of songs using her voice are very silly, positive, upbeat and goofy, and it’s music that I definitely need to hear to improve my mood and self-esteem. Coincidentally, the game is supposed to add a song featuring her vocals next month, and I am pretty excited for that!
I do wish the localization team for the rhythm game did do a somewhat better job with the game, but some people are speculating that they will announce a song schedule today, since I think the game will have an Anime Expo event today. I hope so, since one of my most listened to Vocaloid artists is supposed to have a song of his finally added to the game. I had to wait a year for it…I think all it takes right now for me is just patience! I am feeling better, so I might go and play Smash soon after cleaning up a bit.
@Pastellioli thank you and no worries! Some shut eye is pretty important!
I begun my vocaloid journey around a similar point. I kept strictly associating vocaloid with being a game series (despite it not being strictly one) so I needed a game to engage with it and ps4 helped me do just that! Project DIVA X was my jam! I hope it comes to other platforms! It’s been almost ten years so I’m confident it’ll feel fresh again in my brain.
That’s really cool the game helped your mood and confidence like that. It is amazing when games do that.
I’d also mean towards Len and Rin being my favs. What can I say? They’re totally cute and adorable! Can’t get enough! I am forever in love with everything cute so they are infectious in that regard. Kafu, Gumi, Meiko, Adachi are great as well. Good picks! Zundamon too.
I do hope the team gets better. Vocaloid is in this awkward position where it’s simultaneously niche and non-niche. So you can only hope for better localization.
@Yousef- I have been wanting to play the Project DIVA games for a while, and there is one on the Switch, so maybe I could get it at one point, though I suck at playing rhythm games with controllers lol.
Vocaloid is popular but also does seem somewhat niche too, can agree. I do think around 2017 a well-known Vocaloid producer did this song called Sand Planet that I believe was supposed to represent the current state of the Vocaloid community and song producers, with I think the sandy location in its music video supposed to represent how empty it has become over time. To add, I think Miku has these followers with her, and gradually over time they leave her in the music video, and I can sort of see that as being a representation of Vocaloid producers leaving to do other things with their careers, like quitting or making songs that they sing by themselves without Vocaloids. To add the guy who made the song actually hasn’t done a Vocaloid song in 7 years, though he is still thriving and is making lots of good music still. The rhythm game I play has brought back a few more dormant song producers back though, so that makes me really happy.
Teto really is nostalgic, even though I only became a Vocaloid fan in 2015. I love her UTAU and SynthV voice a ton. The UTAU one is maybe one of my favorites, since she sounds very robotic and cute. I really like how Sasuke Haraguchi uses her voice in his songs.
Got really bad razor burns on my arm and leg. They hurt so badly…gonna play Smash later and see if I’m still rusty or not and maybe play a few online matches.
Tried to play my rhythm game again but the tap registering was so bad and I couldn’t fully complete a session because I got so frustrated again. I thought it was just the screen protector that was ruining my taps so I tried to remove the screen and regret it now since my screen protector now has an ugly crack on one side. It was a really bad idea that crossed my mind and I tried to do it xd. Oh well. Think I need to take a break from it.
@Pastellioli I hope you don’t get any infections from those razor burns. Can be nasty.
Hope you complete your session.
Today we’re on a road trip to Saudi. We’ll back to Kuwait after a day. Sunday is gonna be a break since it’s a new year in the Hijri Calendar (Muslim calendar) so we’re having fun this weekend me and my old man.
@Yousef- The razor burns hurt less now and they don’t look infected by any means, but there were some raised bumps on my arm. I had to put hydrogen peroxide on my arm and it helped a lot. I don’t have any cream to put on before shaving though to prevent burns. I rarely get razor burns though.
I did play Smash yesterday and it was really fun! I’m just trying to find an online match I can play for a little. There unfortunately isn’t a lot of public arenas I can join, but I found one and I’m waiting for the battle to end. I really want to do 4 player Smash and found one, though it’s only three of us right now.
Road trips sound fun, and I hope you are having a good time. I never go on road trips with my family because we don’t have time.
EDIT: I’m having a blast playing Smash. I joined an arena but with the intention to play more seriously but it was more chill one but I’m still enjoying it! Everyone there is fun and friendly and I haven’t played an online game in a while. I almost never play Smash online since I know I’ll have my butt kicked lol.
Between the Fourth of July and errands, this past week has been busy. I did get to see Inside Out 2 with my friend and loved the movie. Also, been playing Moto Racer 4 on PC, and doing the daily challenge in Disney Speedstorm and tried a few of the Rare games on NSO recently.
@Sunsy I do love both the original and it’s remake a lot, though I think what made people hate it was it being more censored. I also think what had to do with the hatred toward the remake was the fact that it was supposed to be fully uncensored initially and adding in new scenes and material, which was the original entire selling point of it, but Rare was forced to censor it, though the censoring is only used for the language and some suggestive material in the game. The original did have some censorship, but it was only used f-words. It didn’t bother me really, since I found the censoring to be very minor, plus I had the N64 version. I do think the original does some things better than the remake (like having their characters look more expressive and lively as well as having a more cartoony look that fits its tone and characters far more) but I think the remake is more playable with its controls. I think one of the most important aspects of a game is if it controls well, and if it doesn’t I’ll likely have a bad time with it or might even drop it, and Bad Fur Day is so hard to get back to with how janky it is. However, I still love both versions a ton and feel that they, as well as the Banjo games, were super unique, and I think it’s hard to find newer platformers from other companies that replicate the same feelings those games gave off. I am sad that Rare is never going to go back to making platformers, given the developers of those games have left since then and the company has said they don’t want to revisit their old IPs.
There was a now offline multiplayer mode that I think I would have had a blast with had I played Rare’s games earlier. Since it was offline, I honestly didn’t have much fun with the multiplayer in Live and Reloaded, since me and the squirrel army I played on always kept losing to the teddy bear army. They always seemed to be overpowered or better for some reason no matter how hard I tried, and when I played on the teddy bears, they literally kept winning, and I was playing on the easiest difficulty they had. There is a system link that still works for the multiplayer, but I don’t know anyone nearby that owns the game or has an Xbox besides my brother, but he isn’t interested in playing Rare’s games unlike me.
Conker’s removal from the DS remake of Diddy Kong Racing was actually more of a Microsoft thing and had to do with rights, so you are right about that. I am sure if he was still included in there, his appearance would have likely not have been based on his “mature” persona in Bad Fur Day. I really do hope an official release of DKR does happen since Microsoft is allowing Rare’s games and characters to appear on Nintendo consoles more now. I think the game would control better if I was using an actual controller instead of my phone screen.
To be honest, I didn't even know it was censored more. I just assumed it was mostly (keyword being mostly) uncut being on Xbox and Xbox having different standards than Nintendo, Nintendo at the time. IIRC, THQ published the PAL version since their logo was on any pic of the box I saw online. I'm guessing Nintendo of Europe didn't want to publish it.
I think I did try the multiplayer once, I remember it played like a third person shooter. It's been so long, and I think it was offline with bots.
Oh cool, I guessed correctly. I hope there's an official release, I wouldn't even mind some of the Rare GBC games showing up on NSO. The Donkey Kong Lands, even Conker's Pocket Tales, maybe the odd GBC port of Donkey Kong Country that I never played. It was pretty cool we got Killer Instinct awhile back, and came at a time I was on a fighting game kick.
@Sunsy Nice, I read your post detailing your experience at the Trolls event. Did you get to dance at the dance party that Poppy threw? I definitely would've went down the slide you mentioned as well. When it comes to playgrounds, slides were my favorite part when I was a little boy.
It does sound like it's a pretty good children's show. Glad I still have that Cinderella tape, it's still in tip-top condition as well. I'll be keeping it as a keepsake. I could put it on, but I'm kind of afraid of it being potentially caught up in my VCR, lol. (Plus I'm too lazy to get my VCR out of storage, lol.) I have a VHS of Snow White as well. Nice, that's cool. Similarly, I do have a DVD only copy of The Aristocats. I got that before I had a way to play blu-rays.
Lol, I did see Mulan on one of NL's news articles as well. Looks like early July is coming in a couple days so you'll get your chance pretty soon. Enjoy Inside Out 2 when you see it!
Haha, that's pretty cool you got that cheater achievement. I know a similar cheat code for The Sims, you'd type "rosebud" and you'd get an infinite amount of money to get stuff for your house. My dad used to play that a lot on his PC way back in the day.
Yeah... it is cool that you're given access to all these games at once, but it'd still be great if you could keep your favorites or something. I guess we'll see what they wanna do.
Me too, really glad that Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 made it to the GameCube so I could play them. Still have my GameCube copies of those games from way back when. I've not played Chu Chu Rocket and I don't think I've played too much of Crazy Taxi. On a side note, I think it was smart of Sega that they put Sonic Adventure 2 on the GameCube first, before making SADX. Since SA2 came out on the same year that the Dreamcast was discontinued. Kinda like how Mario Kart 8 made it from the Wii U to the Switch. I actually had no clue that SA2 was originally a Dreamcast game when I was a kid, I thought it was originally made for the GameCube, lol.
The whole place was amazing, I'm still thinking about it. Yes, I did get to dance with Poppy. The dance party she threw was playing the song "Can't Stop The Feeling" from the first movie. The slide was fun, haven't been down one since I was a kid. It was like a wavy slide. For me, I always liked the swings. Ngl, kid me use to pretend he was Fox McCloud on the Arwing while swinging, lol.
It is a good children's show, plus Sofia grew with the series. It went from Sofia learning to be a princess to Sofia going on adventures in the later seasons. That's cool, yeah I can't blame you on risking it. I once got my Pinocchio tape eaten by a VCR from being watched so much. At least you have one in storage, I don't even have one anymore. I remember my TV was an RF only TV, so the VCR was a way to hook up my N64 back in the day, lol. I have that Sonic the Hedgehog OVA on VHS somewhere.
And I did, plus I saw Inside Out 2 with my friend so I didn't have to go alone. Kind of cool since it's our first Disney movie we saw in theaters together. In all the years of being friends, we never saw a Disney movie in a theater until Inside Out 2.
Yup, ah the days of when cheats were programmed into the game. That reminds me, SimCity on Mac had a money code and if you used it too much the game would set a disaster onto your city. All you had to do was type "fund" while playing, and you get money, but if done too much, an earthquake happened. I wish cheats were still programmed in, they made for fun Easter eggs.
Yeah, I just wish that games could be bought too. I kind of miss the old virtual console style of buying games.
Indeed, I think Sonic Adventure 2 was the only Dreamcast commercial I saw back in 2001. It was very late in the system's life the game came out, but it also made the game special. Like the last Sonic game on Sega's own hardware. Then the port to GameCube happened and it just opened up the game to more people who didn't have a Dreamcast.
The resident Trolls superfan! Saw Trolls Band Together via early access and absolutely loved it!
@Sunsy Yes, Rare did try to get Nintendo of Europe to publish the original version in European countries but they refused to (which I’d assume the reason being to not to be associated with the “mature” and crass nature and status of the game) so Rare published the game themselves in NA and THQ published PAL versions of the game instead, so you got that right.
The multiplayer did used to be online (and was even the entire selling point of the remake rather than the single-player mode) but it has since then been discontinued and can only be played offline with bots or couch co-op. It’s super unfun with bots only though, which made it sort of frustrating to play. Some people who have experienced the multiplayer back in the day said it was super fun though, and I wish I did experience it too. The Xbox does seem to have different standards than Nintendo at first glance, and I think a guy who worked on the games gave a reason for why the game was more censored than the original, but I sort of forgot the entire reason. If I recall, it had something to do with Microsoft not wanting to offend people like the original did, though at the time I think the only people who were offended by the original were parents. Rare was going to implement a cheat that removed all censor bleeps from the remake, but I believe they didn’t go through with it because I think they feared big stores wouldn’t sell it if they heard f-bombs all over the place. However, if you do complete the single-player mode, it unlocks the “Potty Mouth” option, which leaves swearing uncensored, but it only applies to the multiplayer and doesn’t work for single-player. In the multiplayer, there are actually discernible f-words tossed around alongside a few more stronger swear words too when uncensored swearing is enabled, which did somewhat surprise me and I assumed that it would be like Bad Fur Day with its uncut swearing and how it left the f-word as the only curse word to be censored, but nope, the multiplayer actually let every curse word go uncensored with Potty Mouth!
Although my most wanted NSO titles are Rare’s remaining N64 games, I do think I wouldn’t mind if they put a few of their GBC and even GBA games on there. I never played Pocket Tales and only really heard it was ok, but I wouldn’t mind playing it given I like the Conker games a ton.
Hello, and good evening or good afternoon! Hoping everyone is having a good weekend.
Just played a few online matches in Smash and it was so fun, though my internet was having so many issues at first and I got repeatedly disconnected from matches only a few minutes as they started, which ticked me off a bunch. I had to disconnect my phone and laptop and swapped WiFi networks at least twice. I won two or three matches, which is surprising to me because there are a lot of skilled Smash players online and my mains are pretty spammy and easy to defeat. I lost a few times and did make a few mistakes when playing, but all is well. I can’t tell you how much I missed playing the Switch. Probably gonna draw later and hopefully make something nice. I haven’t used markers in a while, so I’ll use those! Thinking about drawing Banjo.
@Pastellioli hello and good evening to you too, friend.
My weekend so far has been fantastic.
Can’t say I’m all that excited for next week though, every “new year” can be quite stressful work-wise. It doesn’t help that all my efforts to combat my sleep deprivation seem to be in vain so far.
It’s not all doom n gloom, however. As I’ve been trying to play the Neptunia games again and they’re quite fun.
Wifi not cooperating with you can be a pun. Did you try port forwarding?
@Yousef- Nice to hear you have been having fun gaming!
The WiFi issues went away later, it’s that the network I was on likely had too many devices connected and it kept jumping back and forth so I went to a more stronger WiFi. My internet from a few years ago was worser and it cost me a bunch of matches in Splatoon. I am curious…what is port forwarding? I haven’t heard of it before, and it sort of sounds complicated.
@Pastellioli it is a bit complicated indeed. Port forwarding is when you change the NAT type of your internet either from 1 to 2 or Vice versa. It’s an incredibly rarely needed solution but you do come across it eventually. You see the NAT type by going into the network test option in your settings. That’s how you find out which NAT type it is. You post forward depending if your internet subscription network allows it. Mine doesn’t so I switched to a different network. While the obscurity of this solution may cause panic that you may forget it when you need it in the future, it is no cause for concern. You will likely come across it naturally if it’s documented enough within the community of the game you’re playing. I was playing a F2P 2D fighter called Fantasy Strike and got stuck in the silver ranks and that’s how I found out. When I was playing Dynasty Warriors 3 with my friend from Toronto on ParSec, I couldn’t join his session due to my NAT-type.
@Yousef- Interesting. I don’t think I’ll use it since I did solve the internet issue with Smash yesterday and it seemed to be something small, but that is nice to know about.
Also, how is your day going right now? Hoping you are feeling well. I’m feeling too down, sad and upset. Someone just really upset me earlier with how they approached and talked to me and I don’t feel happy at all right now, which really doesn’t help with my self-esteem and overall negativity. Everyone around me is also sometimes angry, negative and too cynical, which influences my mood and how I tend to act. Sometimes they wonder why I am so self-deprecating and negative when they tend to act like that themselves. I’m never hopeful and I feel like my future won’t be bright.
@Pastellioli unfortunately, after I’ve come back to Kuwait I’ve went back to my usual day-to-day life where I don’t do much and try to think of how to pass the time. They always warn you that after college you won’t find a shred of free time but funnily enough it’s been kinda the opposite. I’m much more alive when I’m on the clock working at our hospital or going out in general. I guess I’m an andraline junkie as I love being outgoing and traveling and stuff.
I suppose it’s possible I’ve out-grown some hobbies but that can’t be true because I’m still glued to the screen with pro-wrestling stuff and I still get REALLY into a game when I find the right one for me. Not to mention, I’m always at my happiest whenever I stumble upon a cool niche Japanese game that I’ve never heard of!
But as always it’s not all doom n gloom, today I got to try the tea I bought from my trip to Saudi and it was incredibly tasty.
I’m sorry you feel that way. It can be really tricky maintaining a positive attitude for the future. Nothing lasts forever and it’s important to remember that both in good and bad situations. Hope you feel better soon though.
@Yousef- Those seem to be pretty fun things. Similarly, I am also sometimes at my happiest when I play games as well. Glad you liked the tea you got on your trip!
I am feeling better now but I just still feel a bit sad because of what was said to me. I’m really happy when I play games (especially ones by Rare) or when I draw, since I just forget about everything and get all lost and caught up in the worlds. One example is Banjo, since the worlds in those games are so silly, fantastical and happy, not to mention the characters are just so charming and they make me happy with how they act, and sometimes I wish I was as positive and cheery like them. Video games really do help with how I feel, especially if it has a happy tone.
But sometimes I do get envious or wish I would be put in a better situation and surroundings like other people in real life who seem to be succeeding more in life than I do. They seem to always be happy, do things right, and have no fear, as well as always being around very happy people and friends, while I’m just so anxious, obsessive and negative and I always seem to do things wrong that always make at least one or two people upset. I feel like my life years ago I was a more happier and open person. Sometimes I feel like my negativity is derived from the attitude some people around me exude, and that my happiness is derived from games and items. I still treasure the people around me and interacting with them, but I just don’t feel happy sometimes with how they act at certain moments.
@Pastellioli unfortunately it’s not that simple. Even people who seem to be in a “better place” usually got a lot of baggage they don’t like sharing. Last night I got incredibly worried over my friend who seemed super quiet lately. Turned out he was incredibly stressed over his coding classes in Uni and it’s been taking a toll on him amongst other things. It opened my eyes to a lot of stuff and made me think maybe things aren’t so bad for me. That’s a perspective I try to maintain and I try not to take anything for granted in life.
