Hello! Super bored right now. Hoping everyone is having a good day so far.
I tried playing a rhythm game but I think my skills are getting worse, so to avoid getting frustrated I’m just doing nothing and listening to depressing Vocaloid music, though I think I should listen to more positive songs. The artist I’m listening to makes great music and he’s probably my most listened to artist, but what his songs are about are dark and sad, and I have the tendency to be negative, obsessive and have a pretty bad self-esteem, so sad songs probably don’t help at all. It’s way too hard for me to not be so negative and mean to myself.
@Pastellioli Thank you for your kind words. Games have always been my main form of escape, so they can also help me quite a bit in regards to my mental health... especially if it's something like Mario, Zelda, Kirby, or Animal Crossing to name a few examples. I've finished the TTYD remake and it's still a fantastic game. I hope you've had a good day as well.
Edit: Just read your recent post, sorry to hear about your negative thoughts. Those are hard to deal with for me when I'm upset.
@Tyranexx Thanks for your kind words also. Yeah... they don't last forever, but oftentimes they feel that way to me. I can have a very difficult time dealing with moments like these.
Yeah I think you're right, I do remember it was one of the last levels in the game. We did have all three of the DKC games, but I mostly played 1 and 2 back then, same with my dad back when the SNES was still current gen. IIRC, I finished DKC1 for the first time on the Wii VC. Ah yeah, Gorilla Glacier has some really tough levels for sure... I remember that one level with all the barrel cannons. Rareware was not afraid to give us a real good challenge, lol. Ah yeah that's another thing I remember about that world... that save point is ridiculously far away from when you first start it. It would definitely suck to get a game over before reaching that. Looks like your aunt and uncle's SNES got quite popular with the little ones, haha! Similarly, when I'd visit my babysitter's after school (way back in my elementary school days), they had a Sega Genesis that would also get played by their kids, and yours truly.
I just saw that you've finished TTYD, great job! I've finished the game as well. I found Pennington to be a bit funny actually, lol. Yeah, the new pipes that take you to the other chapters' areas are a really nice quality of life improvement. It made a certain chapter way less tedious than it was on the GameCube original. There may be a few parts that didn't really sit well with me, but it's still a very good game overall. I wonder if I should play through the original Paper Mario, to see how it and TTYD compare in my eyes?
Ah, that's good to know... not sure if I'd be able to endure the grinding for that long. Especially combined with the sluggish controls and monster battles that take about a couple years to finish. (OK, I'm exaggerating, but it does take a real long time.) I never got Nintendo Switch Sports either. I like orchestrated game music as well... the Super Mario Galaxy soundtracks come to mind. As for other music genres, I'll also listen to mostly anything depending on my mood. I don't like rap too much either, and I also definitely don't like country, lol. I don't think I'm too familiar with opera. I do like some classical music as well.
Also I don't know if you'll be able to see this, Tyranexx, but I hope you're having a wonderful vacation.
@Sunsy Sounds like you had an awesome time at the Trolls event. Cool to see you got to meet Poppy as well.
The Disney store I've been to probably had a sparkly path too. That's cool, Sofia the First sounds and looks like a cute show for sure. Thanks for showing me that clip! It's so cute! Cinderella is a good movie for sure, as well. OK, here's our VHS and blu-ray!
I probably made some folks nostalgic from showing that VHS copy, lol. Back when many of us, including yours truly, had a lot of Disney movies on videocassette. (I don't know what those marks are, they just... happened. lol) You got a VHS copy of Bambi a while back, right? I do remember that you've mentioned that. The most recent time I've seen an animated Disney movie was when I watched Mulan right on Lunar New Year. Great underrated Disney movie, by the way. It's been ages since I've seen The Little Mermaid... I should see that again sometime. Ah yeah, Inside Out 2 is coming out, right? Enjoy that when you see it.
It's definitely funny when you unlock even the most mundane achievements, lol. That's cool, perhaps we could play sometime... but I haven't played much of the games so I probably won't put up much of a challenge haha.
Yeah... I'm unsure if the old Pokemon games would ever make it to NSO. Game Freak probably doesn't want them to be tied to NSO, that's what I'm guessing. I think so too, since having your own Pokemon makes it a better experience overall. Gotcha, I can't blame you. I don't like having to do the same thing twice... that ain't fun, lol.
Indeed. Plus it had a really good launch! It's no wonder the Dreamcast was a beloved console for quite a few people... but ultimately, I stuck with Nintendo when I was in my single digits, and had the PS2 as my first non-Nintendo console.
@MarioVillager92 Hope you are having a good day and week as well! It’s fine, my day has gotten better! I sometimes tend to be too moody or negative over things that are small and not of much importance, in my case this time it was with a rhythm game. I already got over it and I’m feeling better now since I played another game that I’m going to finish tonight. Been having a blast with it. Chatting with everyone on here and giving my responses to forum posts have also made me happy too!
The music I listen to is all in Japanese, but reading the meanings of the songs online and what they are about is sad and upsetting, especially with two of the artists that I listen to. I tend to have little reaction to it since I don’t know Japanese, but the meanings and interpretations behind some of the songs remind me of awful stuff that goes on in the world and boosts my terrible self-esteem and negativity, which really doesn’t help with how I feel. I’ll probably listen to something more upbeat or with a neutral tone. I already listen to a couple of Japanese songs that fit those feelings!
@MarioVillager92 I did! I described it all in detail in my reply to @Tyranexx above. The whole place was incredible. It really was a magical moment meeting Poppy.
Cool, sounds similar to the one I had. Sofia the First is a pretty good show, despite its target audience being preschoolers. The show had some great stories, and plenty of appearances from Disney Princesses, even Olaf made an appearance. You're welcome! Wow, a VHS tape. Yeah I do have one of Bambi somewhere. My Cinderella is a DVD only copy.
Mulan is another good one (funnily enough, Mulan is on the front page of NL right now). I watch The Little Mermaid occasionally. Inside Out 2 is out now, I can't go see the movie until early July. Could have saw it sooner, but the Trolls event was more important (it was called Trolls x CAMP). Now that that's done, I can start planning to see Inside Out 2. The Inside Out season in Disney Speedstorm is holding me over.
The mundane achievements are always random. I remember playing Duke Nukem 3D Megaton Edition, and it gave me a "cheater" achievement for entering the noclip code, lol. Thing with old FPS games, using noclip allows you to explore the map and find easter eggs, which Duke 3D had a lot of.
That make sense, but sadly Nintendo has no virtual console like setup where you can buy the games outright. Yeah, especially if it's something as big as Pokemon.
Indeed, I am glad the Sonic Adventure games and Crazy Taxi made it to other consoles. Even Chu Chu Rocket had a GBA port that was solid.
Good afternoon 👋 how have you guys been doing? Hopefully well!
I was pretty annoyed earlier, but I’m doing better now. Relaxed and happy at the current moment. I’ve done a pretty good job avoiding listening to negative music for once! Let’s see how long I can keep it going.
I completed Perfect Dark last night and had so much fun with it over the past few weeks, though the final level was poorly designed, and I would be lying if I said I didn’t get angry at it lol. Going to boot up my Xbox again later and probably play a little of the prequel and then Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts. I intend to complete it sometime in July (hopefully early July if I start now) and I did play it before but I dropped it for over a year now. It has a huge emphasis on construction building rather than platforming and I suck at it 😅 Someone on Pure Xbox did tell me that I have to get the hang of building vehicles and using my creativity to get the most out of the game, so it’ll be hard at work when I play it. I do remember playing a demo for it on the 360 years ago, so it really isn’t my first experience with this game.
@Pastellioli I've been doing good, really hot today so spent most of the day in my room staying cool. Watching Trolls Band Together and playing Disney Speedstorm seem to be the highlights of my day.
Nice to hear you're doing better and enjoying Perfect Dark. Enjoy Banjo-Kazooie when you get around to it. Only played the old GBA one, but I remember enjoying it.
The resident Trolls superfan! Saw Trolls Band Together via early access and absolutely loved it!
Good to hear that your day is going well! It’s super hot out where I am, and I always dislike the pesky bugs that come out in the heat. I haven’t watched the new Trolls movie, though I remember seeing the first one years ago. I’ve heard a lot of people say Band Together is the best Trolls movie by far, which is good to hear! I saw Velvet and Veneer all over the internet and even did watch a few clips from Band Together that appeared in my YouTube feed out of curiosity. I’m not really a movie person and I haven’t watched anything new this year besides Kiki’s Delivery Service last month, though there is the Sonic 3 movie releasing later this year that I’m pretty hyped about. I’m a bit surprised they still haven’t dropped a trailer for that one, but it’s probably to build up excitement for the film, which I have seen a ton of already on Instagram.
I love the N64 Banjo games so much, but the shift in genre with Nuts and Bolts being more focused on vehicles and construction rather than traditional platforming and collecting is very different and something I am not used to, but I am excited to get back into it maybe today or tomorrow after completing PD. I never played the GBA Banjo games, but a lot of people said Grunty’s Revenge was good and the racing spin-off with planes was bad. Maybe I could get onto those two at some point this year with an emulator since I don’t have a GBA, but I’ll be focusing on Nuts and Bolts and that PD prequel right now.
@Pastellioli It's been hot for the past week where I live. I try to do chores or errands early in the morning on hot days. Cool you've seen the first one. I agree with that opinion, I love the first two Trolls movies and do feel the third movie is the best one. I still love the first two, I did get to see the new one in theaters five times, was the first time I went to an early access screening too. I like animated movies, I do want to see Kiki's Delivery Service one day, and I'm going to try to see Inside Out 2 early next month. I'm still waiting for a trailer on Sonic 3 too. My friend and I watched the Knuckles series together, we love the Sonic movies.
Surprisingly, I never did play the Banjo games on N64 outside Diddy Kong Racing, but that had other Rare characters like Conker too, before he went Mature (worth noting, I actually have an old copy of Conker's Pocket Tales). Interesting, I didn't know they changed the formula in Nuts and Bolts, always thought it would be like the other Banjo games. The one I played was Grunty's Revenge, never had the racing game, but I have the original Grunty's Revenge cart on GBA.
I saw the second Sonic movie with my family in theaters about two years ago (how time flies) and I had such a great experience there. There were a lot of children there and I loved hearing their reactions to parts of the movie. It actually enhanced my experience, and I would have also reacted the same way if I saw the movie as a kid, since Sonic was a part of my childhood. Me and my siblings had a couple of plushies and would watch The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic Underground a ton, and even though the shows weren’t great and were extremely cheesy, I had great memories of watching those, and Underground had an absolute banger of a theme song, not to mention I also watched that Sonic Boom show that has been popular lately and it is stupidly funny and full of so many comedic moments, and I’d even say it’s the best Sonic show I’ve watched. I’m hoping that me and my family can see the third Sonic movie in theaters because I think the reactions the audience is going to have are going to be crazy, given it’s going to take inspiration from the Adventure games and those are considered to be the best Sonic games in terms of their story, and I really like sharing similar reactions and experiences with other people, including people I don’t really know. I think the film has the chance to be the best out of all the live-action Sonic movies they have already released. Pretty hyped!
I did actually play that M-rated Conker game and thought it was a nice subversion and deconstruction of the platformer genre and I did like it a lot from how insane and weird it is with the various gameplay shifts and how its plotline is a ton of random events occurring in the exact same day, plus it has a message at the end of the game that I found to be very important and connected with, and I even wrote an extremely lengthy post about it on another Nintendo Life forum asking people what their favorite games mean to them. However, the game has material that others might find crude and offensive, is fairly gory and violent, and there is some content in it that I do not agree with or like (especially a scene with these four cogs that is downright questionable because of parallels it has to something bad that I should not mention here) plus the game has pretty bad controls that honestly get worse the more I replay it and it surprises me I was able to handle the controls and even finish the game. I tried replaying a later part of the game that I really liked a lot and I couldn’t finish it from how slow and clunky it was. I have a remake that they released for the Xbox, so I boot that one up over the original since it has better controls and I prefer it over the original, but a lot of people hated the remake apparently. I do think the game is more tamer and a bit less worse with its content when compared to most “mature” media released in the modern day, but I wouldn’t recommend the game to everyone because of some of the content it features. I never played Pocket Tales unfortunately.
I did play Diddy Kong Racing on an emulator back in April, but dropped it from how hard the controls were, but I revisited it a few days ago and was able to manage it, though I don’t think I’ll be able to finish the game in full cause it has a huge difficulty spike during the game. I’m just waiting for a possible NSO re-release that will hopefully have better controls.
Good morning again guys! Going to start playing Nuts and Bolts. Hoping I can have a lot of fun with and hopefully not stink at playing it lol. I was supposed to wake up early but I overslept, but I actually like sleeping a lot.
EDIT: Tried playing it again and yep, I stink at it still. The fact I have to use a playthrough for it and am still failing is downright embarrassing, but I think I’ll just have to persevere and think of creative ways to solve the challenges in the game. I guess that’s what I get for dropping it midway through and not touching it for a year.
Looks like I found somebody have XBOX 360 Slim USA Region on sale in my hometown.
I will make sure that machine is really USA Region after I asked the seller about machine condition and the original games he had.
Having a good afternoon. Lunch was very delicious; fried chicken, buttered bread and zucchini fries! Got full pretty fast.
I am trying Perfect Dark Zero in the meantime and it isn’t bad so far like what others have been saying, though I had to change the control scheme because the one the game had when I started it was really terrible and almost unplayable. Still going to attempt to play Nuts and Bolts successfully though. I have those two games that I’m going to attempt completing in July.
Wow, I actually completed the Inside Out Golden Pass in Disney Speedstorm, all 50 tiers of it. Progressed through that pass much better than the time I tried a battle pass with Paladins. Hoping to see the new movie early next month.
@Pastellioli Cool! I saw both movies in theaters. It's always worth the trip for reactions, I still remember when Tails was first revealed at the end of the first movie. I haven't seen much of Sonic Underground, but I have watched The Adventures of Sonic. I have fond memories watching that one, and SatAM. Sonic Boom is a great show, I was very late to it due to not having cable, so I watched it on DVD. Most of my Sonic Boom experience were the games on Wii U and 3DS, I feel like one of the few who liked the Wii U game despite its problems. I can't wait for Sonic 3, especially since my friend and I saw the first two in theaters.
Nice, I actually have played the Xbox version. Borrowed it from a friend when my brother had an Xbox, and played some of it during my time with the game. I didn't dislike the game, if anything, it did put me in the mood to play other Rare games at the time too, which in turn actually led me to getting Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge on GBA. At the time, it made me miss the style of games Rare made with their platformers, so to me, I had some fun playing Conker: Live and Reloaded's single player remake.
I hope it does get a re-release on NSO, only because there's no official way of getting the game now, unless you buy a used copy. I have Diddy Kong Racing on DS as well, but that actually had some changes. Now it makes me wonder how the game would be treated because of Conker. Conker was removed from the remake, but I always thought it was a Microsoft thing more than a "mature" character. Remember Conker wasn't "mature" when Diddy Kong Racing was new.
@Sunsy I do love both the original and it’s remake a lot, though I think what made people hate it was it being more censored. I also think what had to do with the hatred toward the remake was the fact that it was supposed to be fully uncensored initially and adding in new scenes and material, which was the original entire selling point of it, but Rare was forced to censor it, though the censoring is only used for the language and some suggestive material in the game. The original did have some censorship, but it was only used f-words. It didn’t bother me really, since I found the censoring to be very minor, plus I had the N64 version. I do think the original does some things better than the remake (like having their characters look more expressive and lively as well as having a more cartoony look that fits its tone and characters far more) but I think the remake is more playable with its controls. I think one of the most important aspects of a game is if it controls well, and if it doesn’t I’ll likely have a bad time with it or might even drop it, and Bad Fur Day is so hard to get back to with how janky it is. However, I still love both versions a ton and feel that they, as well as the Banjo games, were super unique, and I think it’s hard to find newer platformers from other companies that replicate the same feelings those games gave off. I am sad that Rare is never going to go back to making platformers, given the developers of those games have left since then and the company has said they don’t want to revisit their old IPs.
There was a now offline multiplayer mode that I think I would have had a blast with had I played Rare’s games earlier. Since it was offline, I honestly didn’t have much fun with the multiplayer in Live and Reloaded, since me and the squirrel army I played on always kept losing to the teddy bear army. They always seemed to be overpowered or better for some reason no matter how hard I tried, and when I played on the teddy bears, they literally kept winning, and I was playing on the easiest difficulty they had. There is a system link that still works for the multiplayer, but I don’t know anyone nearby that owns the game or has an Xbox besides my brother, but he isn’t interested in playing Rare’s games unlike me.
Conker’s removal from the DS remake of Diddy Kong Racing was actually more of a Microsoft thing and had to do with rights, so you are right about that. I am sure if he was still included in there, his appearance would have likely not have been based on his “mature” persona in Bad Fur Day. I really do hope an official release of DKR does happen since Microsoft is allowing Rare’s games and characters to appear on Nintendo consoles more now. I think the game would control better if I was using an actual controller instead of my phone screen.
Has anyone eaten fried chicken with condiments other than barbecue or ketchup? A song I listened to convinced me to eat fried chicken with mayo and I remembered that my stomach hurt shortly afterward. I sort of liked the taste at first but now that I think about it, mayo with fried chicken sounds disgusting.
@Eel I haven’t tried most of those besides ranch. I can’t imagine how delicious those would taste! I almost never eat fried chicken without barbecue. The mayo I ate with the chicken that one time really made my stomach hurt afterward, though I think I was also trying to combine it with other sauces for some reason. I also think lemon and vegemite are eaten with fried chicken.
