Topic: The Chit-Chat Thread

How’s everyone doing right now? I’m hoping you are all safe and having a good Monday (or Tuesday). I’m probably gonna draw now and play my absolutely infuriating rhythm game for the remaining time I am up. I’m hoping I can find a way to upload my artwork onto the artist’s thread but I haven’t found a good app for it yet. I want to use Pinterest for it but I don’t know if the site will allow it.

Pride month is over. But not in our hearts.

Doing good. Stressful week. Every “new work year” starts out stressful. At least once my hospital job shift is over I can just go out again like usual and buy more switch stuff. A decent store that’s 20-ish minutes away from me by car always good got stuff. Rare switch games are surprisingly easy to find there, but in understandably low quantities. I try not to get pressured but the temptation can be quite powerful.

@Yousef- Going to game stores after work must be really fun! I always look forward to the end of the day since I have time to do fun stuff. I haven’t been to any game stores in a while where I live, but that’s also because I am mostly digital when it comes to gaming and there being no games that interest me right now. I have nice memories of going to GameStop with my dad and siblings and looking at all the games and merchandise they have there and buying stuff there. Random, but I would love to buy plushies of video game characters at some point…there are a few characters I would love to have as plushies.

@Pastellioli for my money, the fun of physical collecting comes from seeing cool Reversible covers, occasionally getting artbooks and maps amongst other bonuses. Plus when the cases are light and easy to carry out that’s just a nice bonus overall. Not to mention, never having to worry about storage or download speeds or what have you. (With rare exceptions).

@Yousef- I have come across games with reversible cover art. I think Splatoon 2 and 3 had that and I remember my sister flipping the artwork to the ones included on the inside. It’s a pretty cool concept! Art books and merchandise for games are cool too. I haven’t seen a Switch game that comes with an art book inside its case. I absolutely love art.

And a random question because I am bored, but do you sometimes collect and buy merchandise for games you like? I don’t really do so but I’d love to.

@Pastellioli Funny you should ask, I’ve never fancied myself a merch collector, believe it or not! Which might come off as a surprise given everything else I love collecting!
I love collecting consoles, controllers, physical games, comics/manga, dvds/cds, radios, hardware, peripherals, accessories, sometimes keychains, sometimes stuff for my car, cooking stuff, emulation handhelds, stands, smartphone controllers and stuff, that stuff!
See a funny pattern though? All stuff I coulf use!
Posters? Figurines? Pins? Toys? Action figures? Nope, not my thing! But hold tons of respect to those who do and admire their collections when I spot them in the wild.

@Yousef- That is really cool. I have seen a ton of people show off their gigantic N64 game collections online and they look so cool and must have had a ton of time and dedication put into them. They must be having buttloads of fun! I have also seen a ton of manga collections and collections of merchandise of specific Vocaloid characters online too. The people always make their collections look so nice.

I don’t collect stuff and I don’t think I will from both money and space, not to mention it is not my thing, but I would love to maybe own two plushies or three of characters from games I enjoy a lot. I remember having a Conker plushie as my avatar here for a short while and I might add that it was also a talking one too! I sort of want it but I’m afraid that the specific plushie would be pricey if I bought it. It was maybe $32 but I think shipping would make its price worse, so maybe I should wait or try to find a similar good quality plushie at a better price. Would also love to own a Banjo & Kazooie plushie too. I just think it would be a nice thing to own even if I wouldn’t do anything with it. Me and my siblings used to play with plushies a lot when we were smaller and made a lot of hilarious stories as we played, but they unfortunately caught mold and we had to trash them.

@Pastellioli plushies are the closest I’ve come to branching out of my obsessive hardware collecting. They’re so cute and fluffy!! But as you said, price is a real issue. Availability too. There’s simply no market for plushies specifically in Kuwait. Everything else though? Heck yeah.

honestly same with the negative and positive, i listen to a LOT of depressing music, which is okay in moderation, but can really effect my mood so ive been trying listening to more happy music :3 currently ive been listening to a lot pf chappell roan, taylor, mistki, troye sivan, paramore and lorde ! i wish i was into less mainstream music sometimes, my taste is kinda basic lmao 😅 what japanese artists have you been listening to? i may want to check them out ! @Princess_Lilly thats correct, its still a giant explosion of money for companies who sell rainbow products 😣😣 but, still nice that the month exists at least :3

anyways, on another note ive been playing some SNES with a family member lately, and been havung a lot of fun exploring the catalog. so far kirbys dream course has been the worst, but we still laughed abt it. the good ones were dream land 3, the newest japanese game, and mario world ! oh, and battletoads ofc, cant go wrong with that. ive been thinking about committing ti earthbound though since its one of nintendos greats.

I never “get” Minecraft. All my younger siblings loved it, especially my younger bro who was really into it and played it across most platforms just like you. But it came kinda late into my life, I felt was I growing out of “kids media”, even if it technically didn’t fall into one.

Yeah it’s great pride month exists. I’m a little shy about congratulating my longtime friends who identify outside the spectrum but I always appreciate it when people congratulate me haha. It’s wholesome.

SNES? Better be the good stuff! Like Super Castlevania IV, that’s how you become one of the cool ones! Jokes aside, enjoy.

@OctolingKing13 I tend to listen to a lot of Vocaloid artists. You know Hatsune Miku? She’s a Vocaloid, and its a type of vocal synthesizer software used by artists to sing songs they make, and there are similar synthesizer softwares used too.

The artist I tend to listen to are Vocaloid artists. Some that I listen to include Sasuke Haraguchi, who uses a voicebank named Kasane Teto in most songs he made, and my favorite tracks from him are HITO Mania, hontono, and Medicine. Another one of my most listened to Vocaloid artists is MARETU, and I love how his songs sound, but a lot of what is songs are about are sad, disturbing, and concerning, and there have been at least two times where his songs have freaked me out, so I am trying to listen to him a bit less since they remind me of bad stuff that goes on in the world, though a lot of his works are sometimes hard to decipher with its lyrics. The ones I like the most are Born before,IYAIYAYO, Last day, Miseenen, Magical Doctor, and Pink, mostly because a lot of these are vague, though the first one is depressing and somewhat existential and I am not a fan of how the last song implies violence in its lyrics. Magical Doctor is a very loud song with harsh sounds and its music video has flashing lights, so if you are going to listen to it, I’d recommend having the volume on low and not watching the music video since it could trigger epilepsy. There was this song called Binomi he made that has really, REALLY gross and graphic lyrics I would recommend not searching up, because it freaked me out from how descriptive the lyrics were and is really sickening. Ironically, he said the song was supposed to be happy, though it is moreso in a twisted way. His most popular song is called Mind brand, but dear gosh, what its about is really disturbing and sad…I wouldn’t recommend him to everyone because of how dark and concerning his songs tend to be and they can be very creepy and ruin someone’s mood if they were to look up English lyrics for them.

For more upbeat Vocaloid artists, I love PinocchioP, namigroove, A4, and KurageP’s songs, as they are less negative and more catchy and silly. Mitchie M is the king of positive Vocaloid songs, and I really like Freely Tomorrow, Ai Dee, and News 39 from him. I also love Kyoufuu All Back by Yukiopi for its funny and silly tone and the recorder that is used throughout the song.

For non-Vocaloid J-pop songs, I have been listening to Hai Yorokonde by Kocchi no Kento and it’s so catchy! I like Flamingo and Shinigami by Kenshi Yonezu, Odo by Ado, Easy Breezy by chelmico, Doggy’s god street by Inugami Korone, Daten by Creepy Nuts, Tablet, Heart and funny by TOOBOE, LONELY LONELY, Lost in Paradise, Teenager City Riot, and Wild Side by ALI. I have way more, but it’s getting lengthy already lol.

If you are wondering about other artists I like that aren’t Japanese or don’t make J-pop and just VGM, I really like Grant Kirkhope’s music in the Banjo-Kazooie games as well as Robin Beanland’s work on Conker’s Bad Fur Day, specifically the tracks Windy and Co., Rock Solid, and Enter the Vertex, though that game is very weird and can be outdated, too full of graphic violence and is crass with its humor. I also love the soundtracks to Splatoon as well! I played them a ton years before I played the two aforementioned games and still find them to be amazing games.

And unrelated, but my sister also listens to Mitski and Chappell Roan and really likes both of their music too! I think you both have very similar music tastes.

@Yousef- Ah, I see! What songs by ZUN would you recommend? I saw ZUN credited for that song on a wiki for a rhythm game I played.

@Pastellioli i have a lot of friends who are really into vocaloid ! i havent listened to much of it tho, except for some hatsune miku, which is pretty good ! ill try some of the upbeat songs you recommended, cause i really need some upbeat music in my life :3 thanks for all the recommendations btw !!
im not super into video games soundtracks, but if i do listen to some itll either be splatoon (proud octoling here !!) or undertale. do u have any favorite splatoon songs? mine are tide goes out and tentacle to the metal for sure ! i havent listened to toby foxs music in a while but its sooo nostalgic !

For Splatoon, I really like Anarchy Rainbow, Nasty Majesty, Broken Coral, Bomb Rush Blush, Entropical, Riptide Rupture, and Calamari Inkantation, which is a classic. I have memories of listening to a remix version by another artist that used a Vocaloid named GUMI in it. I don’t have a lot of Splatoon 3 songs listed since I haven’t played it in a while, though a lot of these are from the second game since I played the HECK out of it. It’s a shame I missed out a ton on the third game since I didn’t have the Switch with my account on it for a while.

EDIT: I should have added Ageage Again by Mitchie M, Zunda Party Night by namigroove and PoPiPo by LamazeP and Teto Territory in the positive and upbeat song recommendations! Those are really fun songs too, and the latter two are classics and are very iconic.
