@Tyranexx Evrae may move like an angel but has very demonic attacks. It has attacks that can poison your entire party, turn one party member into stone, and shoot beams of light at your entire party, plus casting Haste on itself to get an extra attack per turn. It was very hard when I fought it the first time, and it didn't help when I came within 1000HP (it has 32,000HP) of defeating it when it wiped out my whole party. I'm glad to be rid of it, but you'll find out why when you play the game yourself.

Another instance of a difficult phase of a game was Ocarina of Time. It's quite embarrassing but when I first played the game almost ten years ago I had no idea what to do. People sometimes tell how they spent months or even years just wandering around Outset Island, Skyloft, Ordon Village, or Kokiri Forest. For me all four of these examples apply. Every single one. But I didn't figure out how to go to the Deku Tree.. it took me three years. It took me another year to get to Dodongo's Cavern... and then another three years to beat the rest of the game. It took me seven years to beat this game.

Likewise it took me seven years to beat Twilight Princess. When the HD remaster came out it was a good excuse to jump right back in, and sure enough by July it was beat. But man I was good at wasting time in Zelda games. Not anymore of course. But TP's interesting, because when thinking on the Zant Hand Sol puzzle, I actually liked it. It was a new version of the Floormasters from OoT, but with a much more chase-y vibe. Made beating them after half a dozen years very rewarding.

I know for a fact that when Skyward Sword comes out in July, I'll spend a bit less time on Skyloft, and try to get on with the adventure. How long did I spend on Skyloft, I hear you ask? Seven and a half years. 2019 was a very important year for me as a Zelda fan, because I actually started beating the games I wasted years not beating.

There aren't any gameplay differences between Xenoblade on Wii and Xenoblade on Switch. Maybe the camera controls but that's about it. Nonetheless Jade Face was excruciating, though I made it 65 hours into the game I still wanted to start over. Because there wasn't an easy mode on Wii I had to win the hard way, and though it took me a while I did it. (God 2019 was a silly year. I undertook a very silly challenge, imposed by myself, to beat Xenoblade Chronicles in as little real world time as possible. I'm no speedrunner of course, it took me eight days, and 20 hours total. Not too shabby... but it helped me learn the game better, and I managed to beat Jade Face very easily, ironically.) For both Egil fights my party dealt so much damage and almost absorbed damage. Even when my party was at LV68, it was still a cakewalk... I'll wait on until you begin Xenoblade 2, I'm sure it'll be a great experience when you get to it!

For me, trips have been a bit more feasible now, because... I think the WHO approved the vaccine my family got. Means we can go wherever without too much hassle. It'll be a long summer, and it's been nice to look back and think; "those were the days,", and not take things for granted. I've usually found that I don't fully appreciate something until it's gone, it hits you like a ton of bricks every time. I do hope you can find your way downstate, it's always good to get out and about every now and then.

I'll still be hard at work by the time E3 comes around but I expect the show's gonna be very late at night, so I'm not particularly worried. The top two I want to catch at all costs are Nintendo and Square Enix. The former because they have the potential to do something awesome, and the latter because... they have the potential to do something awesome.

Don't say I didn't warn you! https://i.ibb.co/KW7TsMZ/P1190792.jpg

My internet speed is quite fast, so while it's not a problem, it very much used to be. Back when I lived in France the internet speed was 2Mbps, and when I got DiRT Rally, a rally simulation racing game, it took three whole days to download the 43GB game. So here, at 35Mbps, it's a huge step up. I used to envy my extended family for their decent BT internet, but I think mine is twice as fast now! Ah, the vim of youth...

I wouldn't want to be scared by a kinky nine foot tall vampire eldritch demon woman, but I wouldn't mind having my sanity put into jeopardy with a game like Silent Hills. It had all the makings of success so I'm a bit miffed Konami pulled the plug. They treated Kojima like dirt, so to see a game (that appeals massively to me) like Death Stranding succeed so well, is very nice.

Christ that's like four games that you've expressed interest in, in this one post! Xenoblade 2, FFXV, FF7 Remake, FFX among others! But the mythos of the world (except the crystals stuff, it can go away) is quite fascinating. The graphics are also way ahead of its time; it's always been like that with Final Fantasy, especially with the full motion videos in games like X. XVI said that the legacy of the crystals must end soon enough, so I can't wait to move on from the Fabula Nova Crystallis BS they've thrown at FF fans for twelve years.

Well, I'm not sure if that cryptic statement is supposed to mean that they'll succeed in getting rid of the crystals, @TheJGG.... It certainly suggests they'll be trying to, which is already a big change, so it could become the theme for future games in the series?
If they do get rid of them, they'll probably come up with something else & you may not like that much, either!

@MarioLover92 Well, I do read comments sections, especially when I want to post something myself. Simply because I hate to be that guy that posts the same comment that 12 people before me have also already posted. I don't like people like that, because 9 out of 10 times, all they do is read a title and then hurry to the comments section to post their inane brain farts, almost like a testament to their own self-importance/self-value and know-it-all-ism...

But yeah, certain topics are sure to at the very least raise some eyebrows, and usually torches and pitchforks, due to the mentally deranged fanboys, and as such, I either don't even read the article, or I do just that and stay the hell away from the comments section, even if I would feel like commenting.

@Tyranexx Yeah, reading is easier and I do remember having seen quite a few comments in the not too distant past, basically complaining about the "video-only" articles, asking/begging/criticizing the article for not having a written text, explaining/summarizing what can be seen in the video.

Personally, I always laugh in the face of people who's lives are apparently SO damn busy, that they can't even afford to spend 4 to 5 minutes watching a video, that people have put an honest effort into making. And it also supports the site and the community, so why wouldn't I watch it? And as mentioned, it saves me from scrolling down an article, having to touch upon the comments section, which might trigger me, against my better judgment, to participate anyway...

But yes, sometimes, constructive criticism is warranted, and in general, that's also the only kind of criticism that is good, but that's just the thing: these people wouldn't understand the concept of constructive criticism, even if it hit them square in the face. And personally, I think that it's the other way around: these basement-dwelling denizens are probably angry that someone threw some fish and chips into their barf bowl...

@HotGoomba Hey, previously known as HotGoomba something, something. I see you've finally managed to restore your original name. We're all good, far as I know. At least I am. Damn tired of COVID and the accompanying restrictions, but otherwise good.

@Snatcher Ha, yeah: walls indeed. I know I sure am partly responsible for that. Well, at least we do try to make them entertaining reads, although some people of late could do with some strategic spacing in their text walls...

@TheJGG So... What's up with the random posting of a picture of a fly? I don't see the connection with what you've written in your comment.

@ThanosReXXX Haha, I’ll fill ya in! I mentioned to Tyranexx that I had taken this disgusting image of a dragonfly, and she asked me for it. I duly obliged and I don’t know if I’ve scared her yet! It’s quite disturbing...

@TheJGG Ah, I see. I also see I didn't really look very closely, otherwise I would have seen it was a dragonfly.
I guess the viewpoint also made it look shorter, semi-hiding its defining features. But the wings are visible,
so I should have seen.

On a side note: unless it's maggots, there's very few insects that look disgusting to me, especially in high quality, close-up pictures. I always think they're fascinating, almost otherworldly. Contrary as to how I perceive a lot of them in daily life, which is basically as annoying pests...

VERY busy weekend, probably the busiest one I've had since around the holidays. I went to a D&D session with some friends yesterday afternoon/evening, then was busy with Mother's Day shenanigans today. Marathon day. After adding in an exercise session this evening (Saturdays are typically a break day), I'm ready to relax and hit the hay soon lol.

As an aside, I just realized I haven't seen text from Anti in a bit. Was he banned again?

@MarioLover92 Honestly, most of the site used to be pretty tame in general. Pretty much since the Switch launched however, site traffic and usage has been way up. Many good things come along with that, but unfortunately so does more clashing personalities and online toxicity.

The Skells in XCX really bring a lot to the game. I hope you enjoy beating enemies up with them! They take some getting used to at first, but the learning curve is fair IMO.

Thanks for sharing the drawing! Very good, definitely better than I could do without a ton of erasing and patience lol. I agree, I'd like to see it shaded in and colored!

@BruceCM So many RPGs lol. It's hard for me to keep track of who does what these days. I am aware that both the Ys and Trails series are Falcom's creations, at least!

@ThanosReXXX Honestly, I need to get back into the habit of watching video reviews now that the site has them. I occasionally listen to a few YT reviews for a game I'm genuinely interested in when at work; we're allowed to be on YT for listening purposes, but I gotta be careful if I actually have a video up (Generally my manager isn't too bothered by it as long as we're getting our work done, it's more other areas of the building passing through/higher management he's concerned about). I'm just used to scrolling past videos as I do check the site a lot on breaks and usually don't have the time or am in an environment they can be watched in then.

I almost always read the articles that I comment on, but avoid reading most of the comment sections unless they're 1. short, 2. I have a couple minutes to do some reading, or 3. Don't seem to be toxic. I likely echo what others say at times, but it's not something I'm normally bothered about.

@TheJGG Evrae sounds like absolute 773H to deal with. It almost reads like it's one of those bosses intentionally created to troll the player lol. I've dealt with a few of those, though probably not as many as some. Apparently the FF series has a staple where bosses can knock your entire party down to almost no HP, as war god Kefka so kindly showed me in my FF6 run.

I daresay most if not all people get "lost" in a game or seventy at some point, then look back and wonder how they were ever lost to begin with. XD I was completely new to "large" mostly non-gated worlds before jumping into World of Warcraft back in the day. I started as a Night Elf, where they have their own separate island as a starting area. I was VERY green, only whacking everything with my staff. I didn't even know I could cast spells, let alone upgrade them, despite them being right on my toolbar lol. When I could finally leave the original starting area...I was blown away. The world of Azeroth was HUGE! I didn't know games this big existed! Before that I'd only played mostly on handhelds; the most modern TV consoles I had access to regularly were a relative's SNES and a cousin's paltry selection of sports/military PS2 games. At least in your case, the seven years it took to beat OoT was symbolic in a way, considering Link is stuck in the Temple of Time for roughly that same timespan. As for TP, looking back the Sol section was an interesting twist on the Floormaster concept. I didn't appreciate it much at the time though, it being my first Zelda game. That said, I still prefer Wallmasters. I look forward to also revisiting Skyloft in Skyward Sword, but I think it'll be some time before I grab the game...unless a pre-order bonus shows up that I absolutely must have.

Jade Face in XC was an interesting character, though I sort of had a guess as to who he really was even before the game started hinting at it. At least after the initial twist behind the Face Mechon. As for Egil, I think I went in a bit under-leveled, that or there was a difficulty spike. Too, I derped out the first couple of tries in that second phase since I couldn't exactly find WHAT I needed to disarm, plus my party of Shulk/Reyn/Sharla kept being overwhelmed or slowed down by all the Mechon adds. As for Xenoblade 2, I'd love to move on to it...but that will depend on what I feel up for next after rolling the credits on Monster Hunter Rise. I do suspect I'll revisit MHR for some occasional multiplayer action, but I don't plan to fully sink into min-maxing everything even with the updates lol.

I too feel trips will be more feasible, now that I've received shot 2 of the Moderna vaccine. I should be clear to go wherever (at least in the continental US) in about a week and a half, though I don't plan on venturing too far for awhile. Definitely not abroad either. I've read stories about where some in other countries are very suspicious of Americans (mostly Canada; I just came across a story this past week where a Canadian received some verbal abuse because they also worked in Alabama, had returned home to Ontario, and was driving a vehicle with an Alabama plate), rightfully so in some cases, but I find that unfair when said travelers did follow all protocols. Everyone needs a scapegoat I guess, and it's hardly just the US that has its share of crazies. I agree, we often don't fully appreciate something or someone until it/they are no longer here.

On E3: I typically keep most of my attention on Nintendo, but I like to see what SE and Ubisoft are up to as well. I also tend to skim news from other presenters to see if anything catches my eye.

That's a REALLY good close-up of that dragonfly! I like the blue hues and the patterns on its thorax and abdomen. Harmless creatures. I absolutely love them. I tolerate pretty much any bug as long as it stays outside my house.

That 2 MB/s speed is about what I used to get (or lower) with my previous internet provider until they upgraded the lines. I think I've went on about that at length in here before, so I'll spare you the saga of why the US company Frontier Communications is Trubbish. It still barely beat out dial-up, which my parents did have very early on before they were able to secure a (slow) broadband connection through that same company.

On the (and I quote) "Kinky nine foot tall vampire eldritch demon woman", I've ran across a couple of really funny face swaps people have modded into the game. My favorite is the Thomas the Tank Engine face. I too am disappointed Konami pulled the plug on Silent Hills and with how they treated Kojima. It makes me glad his current projects seem to be going well.

Even with my limited experience with FF games, I've gathered that crystals play a very important role in them. Due in part with my experience with the Bravely series, where they are also a focus in the first game. It's also a concept that's referenced in one of my favorite parody videos from CollegeHumor, "Every JRPG Ever". I've probably shared it in here half a dozen times. XD I do like nice, well-crafted lore for a world.

@ThanosReXXX Yeah I think it ultimately depends on what topic is in question, so some comment sections are more toxic than others. So I'll definitely admit that. I have left comments on some of Nintendo Life's articles, of course, though most of my posts were on the forums as opposed to their articles.

@Tyranexx Yeah that's a good point you brought up. The Switch has been Nintendo's most successful console since the Wii so it's no wonder you sometimes see more criticism these days. I was a NL reader before I registered and criticism was still prevalent, mainly from how the Wii U was doing, IIRC.

Ah okay, I think I can get into the Skells just fine after I get my feet wet for a bit. I do like giant mechs anyway, so that'll be a good time. lol

Thank you! I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. A couple things I think I could improve on are the flagpole and its base. The flagpole itself kinda blends in with the sky background and as I mentioned earlier, I had a tough time with the flagpole base. Other than those I think I did pretty good! I'll see what I can do with the colored pencils and the 3B/6B/HB pencils. I wonder what I should draw next after this, lol.

Yeah, my Mother's Day was a bit busy too, but it was still nice. We got a Mother's Day cake and even watched a movie tonight! (It was Tangled.)

I don't think Anti's banned from looking at his profile. He's probably taking a break from NL, or something like that. Heck if I know. lol

Heh, well, I brought a lot of the games NISA publish over here & I like to check details like who the devs are if it isn't obvious, @Tyranexx ..... While I happen to like a lot of Spike Chunsoft games! Conception 2 wasn't that good, IMO. Given it's a dungeon crawler where you spend the vast majority of the game in combat, they really needed to make that rather better
So, are you interested in getting Village? I finished that yesterday & it's the best RE yet 9/10

@ThanosReXXX Update on work time.

So having moved to a new position looking after an "aisle" (it's 24 really) and having to stop doing what I used to do, I'm still doing what I used to do as well

And I bought a new PC on Saturday night. Maxed the credit card.

Next day, my hours for this week went from 40 to 32, and on my way in to work this morning they went from 32 to 26, with 24 next week. So money just evaporated overnight.

I love my job I swear.

@Tyranexx Well if Evrae was hell, I clearly had no idea what lied immediately ahead of me... the Bevelle Cloister of Trials. @BruceCM can hopefully relate, because it would have taken me an hour to solve it, if I didn't use a guide. I'm not ashamed in the slightest because 3D puzzle designing just wasn't working back in 2001. Ocarina of Time (and by extension Majora's Mask), and Wind Waker, are the only games from the late 1990s and early early 2000s that have good 3D level design. The puzzles there may as well have been built by gods, because of how good they were. Ocarina and Majora still stand today as hallmarks of quality level design in 3D gaming, and will do so forever. Remake please?

I've heard a lot online about how bad Evrae is, so I knew that grinding like crazy would be worth it in the long run, and it never seemed like he had the upper hand at all during the fight. You'll understand why in better detail when you get your notes ready! For @BruceCM it's because of Rikku. Absolute lifesaver Rikku. I grinded and got so many Al Bhed potions that I basically had an infinite supply to use during the fight. That they cure poison, stone and restore 1000HP to the entire frickin' party is an absolute godsend. Or unbalanced game design. Dunno. Although Auron was a good damage dealer it was Wakka who saw us through, because of his physics-defying blitzball.

I can heavily relate to that experience of feeling lost, with Xenoblade Chronicles X. I started the game and completed the first three chapters but embarrassingly it took me... a month I'd guess, to start Chapter 4. In case you or any other reader don't know what I mean, just to be safe, you have to complete a select few side quests, and survey 15% of Primordia. It was so awesome to have the entire world right there at your disposal, and I remember the amazing feeling of thinking to myself "alright, this is it! Today I'm finally gonna explore Oblivia!" because man that world is so damn big. It must have been a massive shock to have all that freedom only, what, seventeen, sixteen years ago?

I realised when I beat the game, how strong the symbolism was. It'll make for excellent storytelling in the future, that's for sure. That it happened for Twilight Princess, a game that also has the Temple of Time, arguably in a heavier capacity depending on how you look at it, is also very interesting. More reason for these games to get ported or remade on Switch, so I can experience them again without getting crushed to death by all the rubble I'd have to dig through to find the consoles.

I liked Jade Face's character arc if a bit short. It would have been better, I think, if he died somewhere around the Telethia invasion of Colony 6... that would have given him better closure and a better way out, even if his death was heroic. His redemption was so quick, and his death was so quick, that his character didn't have a big enough impact on me. That's the thing about your favourite games, after a few years you can spend time thinking about how it could have been better. I don't remember my specific party when I played the game on Wii five years ago, it was probably Shulk-Reyn-Dunban if I'm being honest. And checking my YouTube playthrough of it proves it so. I don't know why but I lost footage of my Jade Face battle.

When I got DE I made it a mission of mine to stop playing as Shulk. On Wii I did the entire game without switching to another character. My favourite characters to play as now are Sharla and Melia, they're both unconventional and awesome. Problem with those two is that they're meant to be glass cannon characters; powerful abilities (healing and ether) but have very low HP. I put HP increasing armour on them but I still got aggro even though they weren't doing much. Either way I experimented with various party formations and I'm glad for it.

My own gaming's going to take a good turn so far, I've recently gotten all but addicted to the Kingdom Hearts III music... oh boy here we go. I've read up on KH lore and such so I'm not entirely clueless, but I'm so excited. I've completed two Disney worlds so far, and I'm on my way to finishing the third. The worlds in question are Olympus (from Hercules), the Kingdom of Corona (from Tangled), and I'm almost done with the Toy Box (from Toy Story). The music is so well done, it stands on its own, but some songs feel like they've been ripped straight out of Disney movies. Example?

Fantastic work on getting your second vaccine shot. But just when I feel the world's turning a corner there's another outbreak... I'm accused by many of being pessimistic during this pandemic but that's simply incorrect, I'm more realistic. Even last year I wasn't living the fantasy that we would be going back to normal by Christmas, the economy's been smashed, the virus is everywhere save for a few Pacific islands, and everything's shut. I'm being pragmatic when I estimate we'll be back to February 2020 levels of normality by... 2024. The ripple's definitely over but many countries don't have vaccines, and they're drowning right now, such as India.

Having said that I'm seeing progress. Good thing you'll be able to travel, I can't imagine you're completely immune to emotional withdrawal because you live alone and such, but I hope you can get out there and have fun! I'd use the Southern states as scapegoats too, they're always up to something...

Shame about your internet, I’ve of course dealt with it before and if there’s a chance to have it fixed I’d imagine you’d take it. I doubt you’d be able to download a Resident Evil game with that bandwidth, let alone Village.
