@Tyranexx Ah, liquid confidence. And here I thought that was just a male thing...
You know what it actually is? Alcohol removes filters/inhibitions. So, it's actually not gaining confidence, it's actually the inner you. The Dutch have a saying, which goes like this: "only kids and drunkards tell the truth".

And that's as true as it gets. Normally, some words/texts will stay in your head and will never leave your lips, to be thrown into the ether, sometimes also for the better. Alcohol removes all of those restrictions, so you better take care of when you let go, and with whom you let go...

@ThanosReXXX I've heard that, which is one of the reasons why I'm keen to not completely lose control. XD As some of the conversation with someone I met was related to the job I do, I had to be careful to not give away any personal info about clients, integral components of our software, and the like. I remember I did a pretty good job of describing what the client/server app I work on does without getting too detailed. I did stutter/have to slow down a bit at one point, but that's an occasional occurrence even when I'm sober. It typically happens when my brain is working too fast for my mouth to keep up, or else the verbal dictionary is struggling to find the proper term. XD

All in all, it was a ton of people - mostly software developers - hanging out and having a decent time. The coworker who went with me to the conference also enjoyed it.

As this facility had axe throwing ranges, perhaps it was better that I participated in that before I finished drink #1. XD It was open bar and also had food, but you had to pay for the latter out of pocket. I wonder in hindsight how many walked out of there way more out of it than I was.

@ThanosReXXX lol. Let me rephrase. I had a good amount Monday night. More than my normal, 8-10 which is alot for me these days considering i don't get out much and kids don't make great ( or at all) drinking partners 😉. But 6 is a good amount for me to feel good but not out of bounds/ need to be supervised haha..back in my yout, I used to be able to really knock em back as it was a weekly occurrence every Friday and Saturday night.

I get the "had a drink in my hand at a young age for dinner" thing. Used to get wine ( small amounts) at Sunday dinner, holidays and weddings. But it was a very small amount just to wet the pallett.

In closing, I'm just not the spring chicken I used to be thanos... my mornings pay for it with a house of little ones who have no regard for how loud they are, Or what they want to do bright and early. With that said, 6 is usually the right number for me these days, and will probably be hitting that number on this chilly Saturday night

@Tyranexx Funny you should mention all that work-related stuff. Far as I can remember, I've only ever divulged personal information when having had too much to drink, so I have never been caught divulging company secrets. The thing is that the removal of filters after having ingested a bit too much alcohol will only ever uncover the unfiltered you, so if you are never prone to reveal company secrets in the first place, you also won't when drunk or inebriated. It might happen under influence of certain drugs, but that's a different story altogether.

No, it's more like you're likely to reveal how you embarrassed yourself once at a party, by doing something that you definitely wouldn't want any of your current co-workers to know, so think more along those lines.

P.S.

Axe throwing ranges and alcohol DEFINITELY don't sound like a good mix in any kind of scenario that I could possibly come up with.

@NintendoByNature Well, I most certainly wasn't the "had a drink in my hand at a young age for dinner" type, which should have been made clear already by me saying "so I've learned to hold my beer ever since I was legally allowed to drink it...". Keyword "legally"...

On a side note: I always wonder how I'm supposed to feel, when people younger than me express thoughts like "I'm just not the spring chicken I used to be", because it either means that I'm a raging alcoholic, or it means that having children adds years double time, which would explain me being able to keep up, and then some, at almost 50...

@Anti-Matter Sorry to hear about your Uncle.

@bimmy-lee For me Elvis Juice is one of Brewdog’s best. Their Jackhammer is okay and the Punk IPA is a bit too light for the style. EJ has a good balenced citrusy flavor.

@ThanosReXXX ah ok then i misread. My bad .. but yea having kids really packs on the years imo. I'm only 32, but sometimes feel like a crotchety old man. Then again, the 11yr challenged me to shoot some hoops and let's just say, I showed him I can still show some flashes of athleticism that I was known for during my life.

Edit: in all fairness, isn't the drinking age in Europe much lower than the state's? Or at least in most countries.

@Tyranexx - Batten down the hatches then, the caterpillars say so. I second everything Thanos had to say about alcohol consumption. The only thing I’ll add is that mixing up your beverages should lead to a stronger, weirder buzz simply because you’re mixing it up. In my experience, throwing wine on top of any alcohol at all leads to a pretty quick buzz. Two lagers won’t hit you as hard as a combination of two different types of alcohol.

@ThanosReXXX - Ha, I love that saying. Consider it stolen with an attribution when I use it. I’ve often had those same thoughts about the varying degrees of affectation the same amount of alcohol can have in the system. I’ve boiled it down to reasoning and intent for me personally.

@NotTelevision - It’s a nice little drinker. I love floral, citrusy IPAs, and this one is pretty much blasting with grapefruit and other citrus fruits. It smells great too. I wish it was maybe a double IPA to back up all the smell and flavor with a little more body, but the current abv and body do give it a nice session quality. Cheers!

@NintendoByNature Nope, it isn't. At least not over here. It's 18, both for drinking and driving, so in the States, your first ever beer bong (edit: and car accident) is potentially two years earlier...

@bimmy-lee Haha, you're welcome to it, my friend. And it's an absolute truth as well: both kids and drunk people have no filter to speak of, so it's rather undeniable, if sometimes rather uncomfortable as well.

@bimmy-lee ohh heck yeah. It is definitely one that I’d session. When it comes to DIPAs, the best I’ve had were Bell’s Hopslam and the Stone Enjoy by. Both are made in limited quantities and are rare finds down south, but they might be easier to see in your part of the country.

Bell’s year round Two-Hearted Ale is also awesome and easy to find regular IPA. Been one of my favorites lately.

@ThanosReXXX I suppose I'll get to test that theory next month at my work's Christmas party. XD I don't plan to get drunk as I'll be driving myself home (and may need to help supervise a member of HR....I heard someone had to give them a ride home last year), but I do plan to enjoy a brew or two during the evening.

I'm fairly certain I've mentioned this before, but I'm not a normal drinker, nor do I typically stock alcohol in my house. I tend to drink a little at celebrations, social events, etc. if something I like is available and/or if I want to try something new. I've tried a few good, interesting drinks in my life, but I'm quite a novice when it comes to what is in what in many cases. XD

On the axe throwing: I assure you that each range had a staff member supervising it. Both to demonstrate and train patrons how to throw, and to make sure they follow the rules and aren't too inebriated to participate.

@bimmy-lee I kind of figured that's what happened. Something else that probably didn't help (if this is true) is that it had been almost two hours since I'd eaten anything, and not a lot at that. I'd had a big lunch and didn't want to load up too much at dinner/supper. I've mixed drinks in my stomach before, but clearly their percentage wasn't as high lol.

What happened there was that my coworker went up to get us drinks and they didn't have the beer I wanted to try in stock, so he opted for something else that I might like. It was Pale Ale, which I wasn't very fond of; probably shouldn't have finished it, but I did out of politeness since it wasn't entirely revolting. If I had known they'd had wine beforehand (missed it on the menu), I'd have asked for that first and probably went from there.

@Tyranexx Oh, it's not a theory, ma'am, it's a proven fact. Alcohol is an anti-inhibitor, NOT some kind of truth serum that'll make you reveal the deepest, darkest business-related secrets or matters that your employer has entrusted you with, and as such, it'll only ever reveal the back of your tongue in conversations, such as opinions on people/co-workers and similar everyday things, or the aforementioned embarrassing things from your own past, simply because without the loss of your natural inhibitions, you simply just don't care anymore, or at the very least, you'll care a lot less about what people may or may not think about those things, and about you.

And now that you know that, be sure to make alcohol your tool of choice when you want some of your co-workers to reveal the goods on people. Just charm them into drinking more than you do, and make them sing...

On a side note: supervised axe throwing sounds just about right. I'd hate to think of the reality of even slightly tipsy people trying to handle an axe without seriously hurting themselves or others. That would be some story for the company's archives, and definitely one to not share with your family and friends, unless of course you've downed a couple of glasses of whatever is your poison of choice...

Glad to see that you're a responsible person, though. People that drink and drive are never okay in my book. I've seen and even witnessed too many bad things for that to ever turn a blind eye to such behavior.

@ThanosReXXX Yeah I’m sure you know some cocky individuals who think they can hack it on the drive home. They are just lucky.

Same to people who are smoking bowls and driving. They say it doesn’t effect them, but I see driving all strange and swerving either under or over the speed limit. 😑

Just ordered one of those 8bitdo controllers with the two dpads. I’ll absolutely use it to play Links Awakening and see how other games play with it.

It’ll make a nice travel controller too.

@StableInvadeel that would be sweet. I thought about getting one for some 2d games. But it would just be redundant since i already have a sn30 pro.

Eel

@NintendoByNature yeah I'm getting it more as a novelty than anything else.

However I can see it coming with me in trips, and well, it'll be immune to drift 🙃

Too bad it doesn't have motion controls. That would've made it 50% better.

@StableInvadeel I can understand that. I actually like the look of the yellow. $25 isn't that bad either. What entices me more though since itll be a different style than my sn30 pro is the m30 Saturn one. Wouldn't mind revisiting a rolling dpad
