@ThanosReXXX - Maybe too personal for a forum, but not over food and beers. Agreed that superheroes always represent a slice of us so that we can see ourselves in them. I just think The Watchmen in particular, as a team, represent a fully realized human. I think Moore dissected us into six parts, and made a character of each. Probably why I love those books so much. My biggest flaw with my theory and Manhattan’s power is that I don’t believe in time, either as an actual thing, or as a fourth dimension. It’s also something I think Moore was exploring in The Watchmen.
@bimmy-lee Well, I'd say time does exist, but our understanding of it is rather limited, linear and boxy, because, well... you know, people like to put stuff in boxes, so they can label and recognize it, instead of just leaving it out there making us feel uncomfortable or any other kind of negative emotion...
But aside from the perhaps incorrect label, there simply HAS to be a dimension that concerns or is tied to the passage of moments in all directions, which is what time basically is, and we most definitely ARE somewhere in the midst of that maelstrom, dimension, timeline or whatever you wanna call it, because if not, then we too would be able to live/relive and see any and all events from our lives and others, just hopping around at will, and that is obviously not the case here.
And all of that in and of itself may or may not also be tied into quantum mechanics and the string theory, but that's more something for professor @NEStalgia, so my "deep dive" into that specific subject ends here...
As for Moore: yeah, that's probably what he did, and what is done often in comics (just look at super hero teams and how they always seem to perfectly compliment each other to make a strong whole), although he really did do it quite a bit smarter, which is more than likely also why most of his stories are so loved and he's so well-received in his own circles as well.
@NintendoByNature Well... maybe not with the old, or should I say young Britney, but the current model is already nearing her best before date, if she hasn't passed it already...
@Anti-Matter If you say that you won't hold something against someone, it means that you don't blame them or hold them accountable for what they did (edit: and if you DO hold something against someone, then you obviously DO blame them), so that's the more metaphorical meaning of it, but if we're talking literally, then it just means to hold something against her, which in the context of a love song, could of course only mean either a body or a certain part of a body...
@Ninfan Well, you'll never find out unless you use something that I know which actually IS there in the forums on Nintendo Life, and that is the "search" function. And that is also what it's there for, so search first, ask questions later, if you REALLY can't find it...
'The console wars are like boobs: Sony and Microsoft fight over which ones look the nicest and Nintendo's are the most fun to play with.'
@NintendoByNature Oh, you mean totally mental, shaven-head double-chinned Britney? Yeah... who would like that version? Probably an equally deranged individual...
And don't get me wrong: I didn't mean to imply that she isn't attractive at all anymore, but nothing beats high school dress or red latex suit Britney for me, and probably for quite a few other men as well...
EDIT:
Damn, I forgot all about Toxic suit Britney...
@ThanosReXXX no i figured you were implying she's attractive still, I was just doubling down on that 😉. I'm with you, latex suit Britney was the bees knees. As was stewardess Britney from toxic was just as good.
@Anti-Matter - What Thanos said. It’s a double entendre. Brittney doesn’t want you to hold it against her that she’s coming on so strong, and she also wants you to hold your body against her (because it feels like like paradise).
@ThanosReXXX - Time is money. Imaginary units of value. We measure our mortality with it. We use it to coordinate and bring order to our lives. We measure the sun in the sky with it, but Earth doesn’t spin once in 24 hours, it spins and spins. It’s just a human contrivance as an attempt to bring order to the chaos of the natural world. A squirrel gathers nuts by instinct and through sensing changes it atmospheric pressure. The wind got cold, not because it’s now fall. Our dependence on a false measurement takes us further away from our natural selves. I track time all throughout the day because it brings me peace, but not because I actually believe in it.
@Tyranexx - I know the smell well. Rank! You guys do it right. Assault all the senses.
@HobbitGamer - You never know when that bmx bike ride might take them a little too far from home and into unfamiliar territory. That’s when Junior has their back. Learn to read maps kids. It like algebra, you’ll never use it, but learn it anyway.
@NintendoByNature Yeah, the stewardess bit was nice, but I kinda meant that other suit...
@bimmy-lee Well my friend, isn't that just what I said? Our flawed understanding of whatever the passing of moments is, and our desperate need to bag and tag it, so we can safely tuck it away without ever having to worry about it haunting us again. Boxes and categories are comforting. In that respect, we're actually ALL nerds...
@Heavyarms55 You're very welcome. It was definitely a "yeah, what he said" moment for me. Kinda saved me from having to do my own, text wall version of a rant...
@HobbitGamer Is that an anti-lisp that you're sporting, or something?
'The console wars are like boobs: Sony and Microsoft fight over which ones look the nicest and Nintendo's are the most fun to play with.'
@ThanosReXXX - Haha, yes, I guess we all are in that respect. And I suppose that is what you said. Whether we have a minute, a day, or decades left, I just appreciate filling a slice of it with good conversation with good friends. Even if those friends are folk I’ve never met.
@bimmy-lee Yeah I think you got the same idea as me about the concept of time, in that it can only be understood existentially. If we were all immortal and didn’t die, time wouldn’t be a concern. That’s why we are “in a rush” and “free time” is so valuable.
I also remember reading about cultures which saw time as a cyclical process (seasons pass and return, decay and birth) instead of historical linear one, so time is largely a cultural concept as well.
