It depends. If it has recently come out I usually will buy it new. Otherwise whatever is cheapest I'll pick it up.

I often don't get games near their release date but even if I don't I'll try to get it new to support the devs as it will still be cheap after being released for so long. I'll only get it used if I can't find any new copies or the only new ones are too expensive, like if its an old game thats higher than its original price or (if I haven't got much money) at its original price too. If I haven't got much money I'll buy a used copy over a new one if there are both though.
