Having tickets to the early access showing of Trolls Band Together, I decided to rewatch the movies and two holiday specials from this series. One per day. Today, I decided to start with Trolls. I'll probably share thoughts on the two holiday specials here. Despite being for TV, they're still in the movie universe taking place after their respective movie.

Watched Trolls today, for a movie that's turning seven this Saturday, I still find it to be a great movie. It's silly and cute on its surface, but underneath that is a movie filled with musical numbers, some unforgettable characters, and a story about finding happiness that's filled with heart. Also, this movie holds a special place, I was having a rough year in 2016, and this movie cheered me up when I first saw it in early 2017.

Still love this movie after all these years. It's crazy to think it's turning seven on November 4th, and seeing Trolls Band Together early on November 4th, I can't think of a better way to celebrate its anniversary. Next up, Trolls Holiday tomorrow.

Watched my first ever horror film (not counting horror comedies like Shaun of the Dead or Little Shop of Horrors) for Halloween tonight in....well, Halloween (the 1978 original to be precise).
Untitled
I've been wanting to experience the Halloween movies for a while now, since I've always seen them as sort of required viewing when it comes to the horror genre, but never took the plunge out of being a massive scaredy-cat most of the time (ironic considering I actually deal pretty well with most horror games but eh what can you do). This year however, I wanted to finally step outside of my comfort zone and watch my first proper horror film and when I was planning on watching it on Halloween night anyway? One thing just led to another and here we are now.

As for my thoughts on the film itself, it's....pretty good. Definitely felt a bit plodding at points and ends very abruptly (which might be something the sequel(s) elaborate on but I digress) but Michael Myers absolutely steals the show; this dude is f***ing terrifying. The slow buildup of him always being there but never quite close/visible enough to get a good look at him right up until the reveal of his face near the end is such an effective way of showing his completely detached mental state and makes him insanely memorable as a villain. This is helped out especially by how varied his kills are; he may not do many in H1 but jesus they're extremely memorable (I don't think I'm ever going to go get someone a can of beer on my own ever again).

Overall, a very solid start to a horror icon that definitely makes me interested in checking out more in the future (not immediately mind you but....sometime down the line XD). Happy Halloween everyone! πŸŽƒ

With three days left to go until Trolls Band Together's early access showing, watched Trolls Holiday. Even though it's a short and was shown on TV and DVD, I'm going to include it here as it's canon to the movie series and features the same cast and animation as the movies.

Trolls Holiday, the one where you blink, you might miss something. No really, there's a musical number the Trolls put on to help the bergens find a new holiday now that the only holiday they celebrated is gone. As Poppy puts it, the trolls have a kagillion holidays and wanted the help the bergens find one. It introduces the one flaw Poppy has, which gets explored in the sequel Trolls World Tour, as well as the Netflix series, Trolls: The Beat Goes On. Branch helps Poppy see what she did by not listening to Bridget, while Bridget realized Poppy did the whole presentation to help them find a holiday, because she cares a lot. The Bergens get a new holiday to celebrate their friendship with the trolls. It's a short film, similar to what DreamWorks done with Shrek and Monsters vs. Aliens, but has its heartwarming and funny moments like the movie.

Next stop, Trolls World Tour tomorrow. The one that skipped theaters, but saw as a special showing in a theater after pandemic restrictions were lifted.

Continuing my trip through the Trolls series, so apologies for a double post. Feels good watching these all again. I intentionally didn't watch the series for some time just to have them fresh before the new movie.

Trolls World Tour today. This movie does a really good job expanding the Trolls universe. This time Poppy learns there's more trolls than those she knows about. There's rock trolls who play rock music, techno ones who do techno, country, classical, and funk. The different types of music represent each troll tribe's culture well. Basically the premise is Queen Barb, queen of the rock trolls goes on a world tour to collect each musical string, the source of the music in the Trolls Kingdom. Think of it like Infinity War's gauntlet, I'm not even a Marvel fan and I somehow know that. There's even a subplot where we finally learn why Cooper looks different than the other trolls.

Poppy, Branch and Biggie, head out on an adventure, only to learn what really happened and along the way Poppy learns that she needs to listen to others, and learns that a good queen listens. This is her flaw I was talking about in Trolls Holiday, the holiday special helped set part of this movie up. It's also revealed that Cooper looks different because he is a funk troll, whose egg was taken away by a bird and left with the pop trolls, who took care of him. We also learn in this movie that trolls hatch from eggs. Also, a really nice thing all the trolls learn is that the music was in their hearts the whole time, and it wasn't the strings.

Also I should talk about some of the finer details in this series, and it's the Trolls world. A lot of the aspects of this series, is heavily inspired by arts and crafts. Think like Yoshi's Crafted Word (wow, I never thought I'd compare Trolls to something Nintendo on a Nintendo forum). Some of the finer details includes a knitted snake creature in the first movie, the textures looking like felt, the canyons in Trolls World Tour look like piles of folded quits. Just really cute little details. Even characters themselves. Poppy's dress in Trolls World Tour looks like a field of flowers in front of a blue sky. All these details are nice to look at.

Next up will be Trolls Holiday In Harmony, the holiday special that takes place after Trolls World Tour. In my personal opinion, the better holiday special. I like both Trolls holiday specials, but this one a little more.

So mom wanted me to go to the Taylor Swift concert-movie thing that's going on, for this coming Sunday. Thing is, I have literally no interest in Taylor Swift (seriously, why is she huge now?), and she already knows this, except that the theater might be even louder with her music (as it's a concert), she had briefly suggested I could play a game but the light from my 3DS might bug her.

Then today, she had a different idea: let me go see a DIFFERENT movie playing at the same time that day, she could go to Taylor Swift and I go see "The Nightmare Before Christmas" (which is celebrating its 30th anniversary). Plus since it's an hour shorter than the Swift thing, I can get out early and get started on my PokΓ©mon Go community day, where I walk around and press a button on my PokΓ© Ball Plus to catch wild PokΓ©mon, I might even get a few shinies during that time.

A nice thriller about a bachelorette party being crashed by some money-hungry yokels. Blood is spilt, people are dying left and right. Anywho, for being a low budget indie film, this is a pretty good Maggie Q vehicle. What a woman.

Just finished Trolls Holiday In Harmony, AKA Fan Service: The Movie. This special has any little thing that would make Trolls fans smile. Broppy (the ship of Poppy and Branch) moments for the shippers, check. Characters from the 2D animated series in 3D, check. Mr. Dinkles having a monologue that forces you to pause the screen to read it, check. It has so much of it to the point it feels like a love letter to the fans.

In this one, Poppy is hosting the first annual troll kingdom secret holiday gift swap. It turns out Poppy and Branch get each other, yeah I was not kidding about the shipping part. Along with a subplot of Tiny Diamond, trying to get his flow back to give his dad a special rap. When I say this is a better holiday special than the first Trolls Holiday, I mean it. The secret Santa theme and gifts does a Christmas theme so well. I also love how everything isn't as colorful like the movies and previous special, but also has a more wintry feel to it. It's hard to describe, it feels like looking out at a winter day.

Ultimately, the gift Branch gives Poppy is a special scrapbook of all their adventures. This scrapbook, going into the fan service aspect, is filled with nods to all the previous movies, it's enough to bring a tear to any Trolls fan's eye. They learned they didn't need to go all out and the best gift was each other. Also throw in a kiss and the hot air balloon screaming "Team Broppy all the way!" Yeah they mentioned the ship by name.

That's it, hope everyone enjoyed reading my trip to through this series. Maybe this may have convinced others to give the Trolls series a chance. In addition to the movies and specials, there's even a show on Netflix using traditional animation, as well as a show on Peacock/Hulu, that goes into this universe even more than the movies and specials could, and even highlights some of the other characters. There's just so much about this series, and I love it all.

Tomorrow is the early access showing of Trolls Band Together, and I'm really excited. Looking forward to this special early showing of the movie, wearing one of my favorite Trolls shirt, and even the Lyft ride to the theater. I'm looking forward to a good time and seeing what's next for this series. Also a little bit nervous as it's going to be the first time I go to a movie on my own. Should be a good day hopefully, and really looking forward to it.

Trolls Band Together, in theaters via a special early access screening. Oh my gosh, I absolutely loved it. As a Trolls fan it exceeded my expectations and made me smile, laugh, and cry. I was not prepared for some of the stuff this movie threw at me. Thow in some great musical numbers, some boy band jokes, a great message about family, and dark moments too. Best Trolls movie yet, and I'm someone who loves the first two movies, dare I say, one of this year's best animated movies.

Spoiler stuff, don't read below if anyone is planning to see it. It comes out November 17th, but may be out already in other parts of the world.

Viva, I knew beforehand that Viva was Poppy's sister. What I didn't expect was the curveball it threw at me. Before seeing this movie, didn't know what her role was aside from being Poppy's long lost sister. Turns out Viva remember Poppy from when Poppy was a baby, and she began to get overprotective. In the first movie, the Trolls escape through the tunnels under the Troll tree to get away from the bergens. Rocks collapsed separating Viva from Poppy and her dad. Viva took refuge at an abandoned bergen mini-golf course. Viva feared the bergens thinking they haven't changed. Poppy leaving her scrapbook about her best friend Bridget, convinced Viva to go help the trolls during the final battle with Velvet and Veneer

Speaking of Velvet and Veneer, some villains right there. Not so much Veneer, but Velvet was something. They were talentless hacks who were stealing talent from a troll named Floyd, one of Branch's brothers. By doing this, trapping him in a diamond, and using it like a perfume spray, each spray could actually kill Floyd. It's worth noting Floyd was the only brother who cared about Branch, and it's revealed Branch's idea to build the bunker was inspired by Floyd, and the vest he always wears was given to him from Floyd.

I LOVED the Vacay Island scene, being someone who loved Weezer when I was younger, I couldn't get over the cover of Island In The Sun, this song had me really smiling the whole scene.

Can't forget my favorite Troll Poppy, during some of the scenes, she actually got pretty angry in one scene. Never seen her get angry before, outside when Creek revealed he sold them out in the first movie. Kind of refreshing to see the "happiest troll of all" has a bit of an angry side too when it matters.

Of course, being around a boy band, NSYNC actually made appearances as trolls.

Daddy's Home 2 on Blu-Ray tonight. A bit early for a Christmas movie, but I wanted to watch it with mom tonight. We both had a good time watching it, it put me in a bit of a Christmas mood, even though it's November, and I still have Thanksgiving to look forward to.

@EaglyBird I heard already, I’m so EXCITED.
Gonna rewatch the Shrek quadrilogy once the teaser comes out.

Today is absolutely spectacular for a 2020+ day, first the GTA6 teaser announcement, then MK8 Wave 6, now THIS?

Hopefully the Shrek 5 teaser comes out before jacksfilms’ final β€œRoyalty Free Christmas Songs” volume (10) comes out, so the β€œWhere is the Shrek 5 Trailer?” leitmotif finally concludes!

Edit: Just checked out the image itself showing the leak and why tf is Despicable Me 4 on there 😭

...wait what? You guys are...excited? For a FIFTH Shrek?

Look, don't think me wrong, I'm gonna see it, but aren't people particularly negative towards sequels these days? Like how people beg for one, but then one gets made and they're like "no no, it was fine on its own"? Like come on, they made your request a reality and you want to take it back? Make up your minds!

@IceDomino The fifth shrek hype started out as a joke by people like Jacksfilms, and evolved until it just became something we wanted lol
I don’t think anyone right now is desiring to take this back or not be real

Inside Out 2's teaser trailer just dropped.

@EaglyBird Whoa, they're actually doing it.

@IceDomino I like the Shrek movies, seen them all aside from the third (wasn't on any streaming service). Call it an unpopular opinion, they're not my favorite. Just to be clear, I don't hate them, but I don't watch them as much as other animated movies I like.
