That was a kick in the face. Can't believe that just happened.
Off island, the scene in the corridor of the hospital where Jack says "I wish you had believed me". Wow!
edit: Just found this...
"The producers of ABC's hit drama have shot so much crucial material for the show's hugely anticipated finale that the network has agreed to extend the last episode by an extra half hour."
I just watched it again after work (yay FiOS On Demand!) ... still blew me away, hard to even process everything ... i can't wait to see Sawyer's reaction -- yeah, maybe Jack got Juliet killed, but James buddy, you done far worse ...
I can't help but thinking that MIB is going to threaten to kill Kate to try and make Sawyer kill Jack; and maybe threaten Claire to try and make Jack kill Sawyer?
And the Off-Island universe stuff was very cool, Jack being all Jacob-y (did you notice him getting the candy bar and offering it to Claire, referencing the Jack-Jacob scene?) ... And what was up with Bernard? Seemed like he had some sort of understanding of things, like Eloise ...
Next week should be epic (again), as it's supposed to be the MIB/Jacob-flashback episode!
And by the way, there was a mild spoiler in my previous post, as i had changed my sig, lamenting the apparent loss of Frank (though there is a vocal contingent believing he's not dead, i must sadly disagree).
'THE CANDIDATE' SPOILERS... DON'T READ IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN IT!
Jack as Jacob, that's a nice thought, it makes sense given the episode title and the course of the show up til now. So, Jack could realise his potential, become the protector, and get stuck on the island with John for another god knows how many years, repeating the process that Jacob/MIB have endured for centuries. Jack is awesome, and I always knew his role would be great. This is assuming they actually manage to contain MIB (the murdering bar steward) of course. Who knows, hopefully this flashback episode you speak of Shpydar (OMFG!!) will fill us in on the nature of Jacob/MIB's relationship and how they both ended up where they did. Also, I hope we found out why the MIB can do what he does. He said he was a man once, he definitely isn't anymore. Our remaining Losties need to watch out! Although, how will he kill them, without breaking the rules? I like your manipulation theory Shpydar, but now they are on to him, I doubt he'll be able to trick them again.
This time, the Apollo bar didn't get stuck, no need to punch and kick the machine in the ATL. Just one of the many awesome parallel type mirror reversal thingies in this episode. Jack and John were so close to tearing open realisation but still they remain unsure/unwilling. Jack repeating Jeremy Benthams suicide note was an amazing moment for me, and one that made John pause for a second. Also, Anthony Cooper in a vegetative state thanks to his son, really freaked me out. Remember he appeared on-island thanks to 'the box' and was killed by Sawyer, what if this vegetable is the way he is because part of him was 'removed'. We've already seen people's conscious' shifting about through time and space, so it's possible, in an f'd up LOST kinda way. I'm certain something is going on there anyway, or maybe he did just get severely injured in the crash, I don't know!.
Then there was Bernard, getting as close as he could to actually telling Jack what's going on. "Weird huh? Sounds like you're on to something" What the fudge! How do some of the ATL characters seemingly have knowledge of what is going on, and how do they know to stick to the rules and not tell? HEEEELP! 0.o
All in all a fantastic episode, one that kicked me square in the balls and haunted me whilst I was out and about this morning. The scene in which we saw their hands holding, only to see them drift apart, was really well done. I was doing ok to be honest, right up to the point when Hurley broke down, that was too much. R.I.P.
Love your sig btw Spiderdude. A fitting tribute. he might be ok, but probably not :/
edit: Forgot to mention my two favourite scenes... Jack and Claire looking into a mirror, whilst listening to that song. Jack, stood on the beach, lost somewhere between despair and awakening. Wow! I'm gonna miss this show so much!!
I never thought i could care for the fate of Anthony Cooper after what a prig he was in the regular universe, but that was tragic. Even more so when John told the story of how it all happened. And yes, totally, Jack repeating the Bentham line was near epic. I nearly expected the alt-universe to tear itself apart or something right there.
Love how far Jack's come. He's just so fully accepting of his role now. Another awesome moment was his "John Locke told me" before pushing MIB into the water, Sweet! Speaking of, i wonder if the deal with MIB is he can't be Smokey when wet? Not really all that important anymore, though (i'd think). Especially since he can just stand there and shoot everyone with a vengence.
And yeah, definitely the moment that sealed the sadness was Hurley crying.
I loved the Bernard scene especially, since he's always been a favorite minor character of mine as i really like the actor (i remember him best for playing Principal DeWitt on "Growing Pains", not to mention being the Doctor that Loved Fonzie on an episode of "Friends", as well as appearing on a billion other TV shows). It did seem that, on the Island, he and Rose really became accepting and one with everything, kind of fulfilling Jacob's point of the goodness of man. I hope there's more to come from the two of them on Island, assuming they didn't somehow stay in 1977 post-Jughead-boom.
Meanwhile, we've still got a couple big wild cards out there with Des in the well (how awesome was Sayid's "Beacuse it's going to be you, Jack"), and Ben, Richard and Miles still who knows where. And of course, you know Widmore's not finished yet. Oy! We're running out of time! Good thing we've got that extra half-hour to the finale!
Gosh, I need to watch it again, you reminded me of some of the many awesome moments in that ep. "Because it's going to be you, Jack" Nice! Sayid has been elsewhere for a bit. Maybe he knows, maybe he sees it, or maybe he just knows Jack to be the obvious choice having witnessed him lead (and well) for so long. I too love how Jack has evolved throughout the show. Seeing him sit back and watch, and plan, has been fun. Another great moment... John walking through gunfire. How does that work? I need to know. I need to see (and have been hoping to for most of the season) the moment smoke turns to man and vice-versa. I'm not sure the budget would cover it, or maybe they are saving it for the finale. SO EXCITED!!!
About next week... anyone else watched the preview? VERY interesting.
Well tonight are big night again. (I won't forgewt due to Monster Hunter again)
I think the Sayid line cemented that Jack is The One. I doubt they would have made the last words of a long-time character garbage. Just so much going on......
What will Sawyer's reaction be now that he just ****ed half their group? Were is Jin?( I swear he made it) How will Smockey "Finish what he started"? What will Benjamin Linus and Richard do for payback? Most importantly though, will my baby be ok with that bullet wound!!!??
To be honest, I fear for everyone now. MIB is gonna be mad. If it weren't for 'the rules' I imagine he'd tear them apart the first moment he could. I'm not sure how he intends to "Finish what he started".
If this was a conventional show I might have an idea as to what is going to happen, but with events in the ATL, I haven't got a clue. Will things merge? Even if our ATL characters become aware of where they are, will they be able to do anything to help on-island? If so, how the fudge?
Enjoy tonight's ep. you lot, I'll be avoiding this thread from the moment it is aired in the States. I've already spoiled myself a little with the preview and what it promised intrigued me sooo much I've been dying to see more. Are we really about to see the beginning of it all? I hope so. Then, the final 3 episodes will just be pure madness, on-island and off.
You guys may skewer me but I didn't really care for that episode. Maybe it was the epic nature of the last one over-shadowing it but I just wasn't all that impressed.
SPOILERS MACHU
There were some cool things. Finding out they are twin brothers, seeing "the wheel", showing why he is a smoke monster, and finally revealing the Adam & Eve. I didn't like their step-mother, the explanation of the light (still not sure exactly what it is) or the fact that they made Jacob look like a sniveling whiner.
END SPOILERS
I know the remaining episodes are going to blow the doors of the show!! One more episode before the finale!!
I hear what you're saying JayArr. It was a great episode, but ... yeah. Especially since i did hope we'd get to see some more ATL or Island stuff, instead of the straight narrative we got. If there weren't so few episodes left, i actually may have enjoyed it a lot more than i did (but again, i did think it was a great episode).
One thing i kept thinking through the episode was "Okay, they're explaining a lot of stuff, but they're raising a whole bunch more questions!" The Light, Mother (she's a whole pile of questions!) ... i can't help but wonder how many answers we'll truly get, and how much will be left open ...
EDIT: The episode almost felt like a "Part 1 of 2" as far as the Jacob/MIB origin goes. Will we get the rest (like when Jacob first encounters MIB again after his soul'd gone all smokey, how/when Jacob started bringing people to the Island, etc)?
I have to watch it again, probably this weekend. I'm interested to see what 'Chu has to say when he sees this one!
I really enjoyed that episode. While that may have not been the greatest episode, I think it was necessary if nothing else than just explaining who those two characters really were. Sometimes it might just be better to not reveal all of the secrets because we might not get the answer that we really wanted. Oh well the writers know what theyre doing so ill just sit back and enjoy the ride.
Good day. ... I said Good day We have to go back Kate! WE HAVE TO GO BAAAAAAAACK!!!!! Modern Warfare Reflex Edition 5332-3502-2691 My Backloggery
I'm interested to see what 'Chu has to say when he sees this one!
I'm struggling to accept it quite honestly. I need resolution, not more questions.
spoilers ahoy!!
Usually an episode of Lost prompts 'oohs and aaahs' from me and my lost buddies as we comment on what is happening on screen. Last night there was silence. I thought it was awesome at first as we saw the twins growing up together, but then they skipped quite some time ahead and it all went a bit weird. My brother and I were exchanging troubled looks as the Islands 'vagina of light' was revealed, even more so when it swallowed 'the nameless one' whole and spewed out smoke in reply. Oh, and the Donkey-Wheel was created on blind faith alone? Oh dear. I'm gonna reserve judgement till I've seen the end, but I'm worried.
I need to know more about 'mother'. Obviously, she is a smoke monster, how else could she have caused such destruction at the udders camp and filled in the well. Was she always that way? Or did she at some point try to enter the glowing orifice and suffered the same fate we saw her dark son endure?
I need to know more about my old friend 'exotic matter'. It is life, death, rebirth. For the island? Or for everything? For everything I guess, what with the constant warnings of everything ending if the Island's Holy Grail ever fell into the wrong hands. Will I get a scientific explanation to all this, or must I just accept that this is the light than shines within us all.please, noooo!
I'm not whinging, I just need answers right now, not massive gaping holes in the plot that I fear may not be filled before the end. I still have faith in the show and look forward to them revealing the things I want to know, but with only three episodes left there is only so much they can do. What is 'exotic matter'? How can it enable healing? How can it influence fate? How can it disrupt time? How can it create parallel universes or create links to previously existing ones? How can it swallow a man, spit him out dead and create a smokey sentinel in its place? LOL.
I'm jabbering, I need to watch it again and read a couple of re-caps. CONFUSED!!!
Anyway, apart from the eye-brow raising moments it was a great episode, I just wish they'd given it another ten minutes like Ab Aeterno, or perhaps gone for a two-parter.
EDIT: I mean, FFS, you create a machine which enables the Island to move and transport people off of it... on faith alone? D: That's too far for me! :/
EDIT EDIT: Unless of course, the force that seems to influence everyone and everything in this show is indeed sentient, and knows what it's doing. Could the knowledge have been passed down somehow. He (MIB) finds the game, and knows how to play it, hhmmm.
I DON'T KNOW! ALL I DO KNOW IS THAT THE MORE I THINK ABOUT IT THE LESS I LIKE IT. D:
An interview there, if you dare read it. They sound very defensive to me. Again, I enjoyed last nights episode but it came far too late and has me extremely worried they are pulling stuff out their asses. :/
Yeah, there's been a pretty large amount of negative feedback from fans on the ep from what i've seen. Some of that is certainly that some fans are only now realizing that Darlton (the "Losties" fan-name for Lindelof and Cuse) didn't have everything planned out from the beginning, at it wasn't really until around the third-into-fourth seasons that they started really putting it all together (they did have ideas from the beginning for where they wanted to end the show, but they never had all the details worked out -- which is why we have many unanswered questions now -- and of course other factors influenced planning leading to dropped plot threads, like actor-issues and such).
Decent interview. Certainly defensive in parts. And Cuse saying "This is what an episode of "Lost" that is about answering questions looks like." Okay, yeah, i get that, but what about the 97 other questions you raised throughout the episode? WE'RE RUNNING OUT OF TIME! I don't mind some unanswered questions (especially since some can likely be figured out on our own by filling in little gaps, even if there's never a definitive answer spelled out on screen), but still.
Personally, i don't get why some people are so obsessed over the outrigger-shootout scene. It's not quite as bad as those who are obsessed with WAAAAALLLLTTTTT!!!!, but close.
I did like this from Damon a lot: (referring to the parallels between the Dharma purge and Mother's destruction of the little village and well) "What our intention was is that there is a repeating vicious cycle that seems to happen on this island, where people come to the island, they try to figure out what makes the island work, and the closer they came leads them to their own inevitable demise."
Meh. Still need to watch again. I'll leave this post with one theory that jumped out at me during the episode ... So MIB becomes Smokey (or Smokey takes the MIB-form/personage) after contact with The Source. Theorizing: The Smoke can only truly become physically manifest as a person (as opposed to just "appearing" as that person a la Christian, et al) that has had contact with The Source. MIB, meanwhile, developed the Frozen Donkey Wheel, which was (intended to be, and presumably eventually was) innately connected to The Source. MIB manipulates Locke to eventually put him on the path where he (Locke) turns the wheel, thus essentially having contact with The Source, making Smokey able to physically manifest as Locke (Illiana "He's stuck in that form now" -- Smokey is stuck because he has actually physically manifested in that form) ... of course, that leads to the question of "well, okay, but WHY?" ...
Don't know if all that makes sense as written or if it even means anything, but it jumped out at me once the wheel was shown.
Based on the interview, I'm thinking we're going to be getting some more backstory on The Source and all, and this ep served as almost a place setting so they didn't bombard us with so much at once (though they did anyway) ...
Okay, stopping now. Getting to much into ramble-rant territory!
Ramble-rant territory? I don't know what you mean.
So yeah, I basically typed out my frustrations and got no-where. I just need to chill out and wait and see what happens. I think, like most fans, you have an idea as to where you'd like a story to go and when it veers from what you were hoping, it can be very hard to swallow.
I've read a few re-caps and reviews and they all seem to be theorizing in different directions. I hope, that having watched the remaining episodes we look back at Across The Sea and say... "ok, I get what you meant now!". Right now though, I'm trapped in the void between two realities... the truth, and my dreams.
So, it's literally days till the end of Lost and no-ones posted in here for three days. I'm gonna start spamming with pictures and stuff, so as to celebrate this show (in it's glory days).
About my disappointment with the last weeks episode.... I have high standards (which is what brought me to this show in the first place) and will be brutally honest if the end of Lost isn't up to scratch. You shall see a fan, turn into a troll. It really hurts to say it but I think that 3 episodes from the end they've completely f***ed it up. I hope I'm wrong and the following episode fixes it.
Well I thought I was going to be the only one who was disappointed in that episode. I thought it was bad but I didn't think it would almost destroy Machu's fandom.
I say lets not jump to conclusions here and see what they got. I fully expect tomorrow's episode to fill in some holes last week's left and bring on some monmentum for the big finale.
I hope so dude I really do. That was probably my least favourite episode EVER! Right from the moment they conveniently slip into speaking English (which I know is an oft-used tool in tv and film, but they didn't do it in Ab Aeterno), I was dragged out of 'the bubble'.
So yeah, I'm nervous, Wednesday can't come soon enough! I need to know if this is some big trick.
