The part where Charles and Desmond toast the scotch and the Charlie under water hand pressed to glass both gave me goose bumps.
It's interesting that Desmond, Charlie, and Daniel are all "enlightened" that the ATL is a just that, an alternate reality. In the end it foreshadowed thatDesmond is going to let them all know the ATL is not right.
Eloise hinted that there were "rules" again when she noticed Desmond snooping. What the frack is going on!!!???
Next week is Hurley week and it is going to be awesome!!!!!!
Not to be repetitive, but awesome, awesome, awesome, awesome episode! And that seals it, all Desmond episodes rule, brother! I too let out a "yah!" when Desmond started seeing the NOT PENNYS BOAT flashes. =)
Yeah, Daniel and Eloise go by Widmore in the pocket universe, as the family obviously never split apart (Faraday was likely Daniel's stepfather's name in the original universe).
And yeah, it looks more and more to me like the flash-sideways universe isn't necessarily a time-line fracture, but more of a pocket-universe, where things are the same, but different (heh). Timey-wimey stuff indeed.
Eloise! She's got some pan-dimensional know-how going on! LOVED the "That is, in fact, a violation." line!
And hmm, if true love seems to somehow "reveal" the universe, is that why Kate and Jack had those deja-vu-ish moments with each other in the season premiere? Hmmm!
Deleted my comment as I don't remember typing it. We hadn't planned on watching LOST last night as we had people over, the plan was to watch the football, then play Wii n party n stuff. We lost the football though, and got knocked out of the cup... everybody left and me an my bro were left sat there, both extremely drunk, and both crushed.
We were in two minds about watching LOST but knew it was the only thing that could change the course of the evening. What followed was another Season 6 candidate for best episode ever.
There was no noise to indicate a flash-back/flash-forward/flash-sideways when Desmond was zapped in the box, only clouds, and boy was that a moment. It finally told us in plain english, that if you zap Desmond with massive amounts of electromagnetism, he would start jumping 'verses. Did he have this special ability already, or was it born that day he turned the key and released the dam? If it's the latter I can only imagine it was a combination of his proximity to electromagnetism and exotic matter that caused this effect. If it's the former, and he truly was special before stepping on the island, I find that even more confusing. Speaking of confusion, I too am trying to understand if this alternate timeline was already there, or if it is an offshoot brought about by Jughead. I've been assuming LOST was set in a multiverse, but now I'm not so sure. 0.o
The episode itself was very powerful and beautifully done. I lost track of how many times I went 'Woooaah!' and nearly fell off the sofa. Also, I nearly had a man tear roll down my cheek whilst watching the Desmond and Penny scenes. It's so cool to see emotional connections causing peoples consciousness to make bridges between two separate timelines, truly astounding. Everything was so eerily familiar, to us, and to those involved. Now, Desmond has returned and understands what Widmore wants him to do. The following episodes are going to be absolutely crazy, everything is up in the air. What will happen as our 815ers start realising they are in the wrong place? Will their universe collapse around their ears, or will they just be dragged back into the place they are 'supposed to be'?
I could type in circles forever, as I try to understand this. LOST has done it again.
One last thought, the box that was used to zap Desmond, could that also be used to toast Smokey? We know he doesn't like EM, and if they could get get him in there it could do some real damage. Could a big wooden box hold Smokey? I doubt it, he'd just bust his way out of there surely.
An interesting theory floating out there -- which may or may not hold any weight -- notices that the the Zap Box superficially resembled Jacob's Cabin, complete with a lone chair in the room. Now, of course it could just be a visual coincidence, but could it be that Jacob's Cabin was something similar? We do have indications that perhaps Smokey was trapped in the Cabin until the ash circle was broken (Illana mentioning that Jacob wasn't using the cabin but someone else was, and flipping out when they noticed the broken circle) ...
Little tidbit in case it was missed -- one of the paintings on Widmore's office wall was of a scale, balanced with white and black stones!
Dya think? Lure him in there somehow then BAM! Hhhmm, I still think that smokey could smash his way out of there easy, but we shall see.
Regarding the Cabin theory, I can see the similarity, but don't remember seeing any solenoids hiding inside. But then with this frakking show, who knows.
I noticed the picture in Widore's office on the second watch, it was surprisingly prominent. And how I love seeing Desmond's flash-buddy Minkowski back, his face makes me laugh.
edit: and seriously JR, are you trying to freak me out with that avatar. lol.
Oh I didn't mean fry him in that little shack per se, but definitely fry him somehow. That is Desmonds special talent to survive such thing so who better.
When Desmond finally revived on the island he seemed like he KNEW everything. Like how it was all going to play out and he was fine with it.....crazy.
Can't wait to see Libby and Hurley together in the ATL next week. I bet anyway
edit: babies ar cute, not freaky! Whatchu talkin' about!? hahaha
Agreed, Desmond is approaching realization, just like Charlie, Eloise, Daniel, and countless others. He's come along way from waking up on the floor covered in paint. Is he gonna be zipping around time and space correcting wrongs, fixing the problem? Or will his use be on the island, directly opposing Smokey? Aaaagh! Don't know!
I felt nostalgia getting in the way for some of this season, but now I want to march to the end and see the truth. Then all of this will make sense, and I can revel in its awesomeness!
More please!!!
edit: I hope you are right about Libby being in the next one, we are owed an explanation as to her importance. Being dead on island, should mean she's fairly aware in the ATL. Bring it!
Is he gonna be zipping around time and space correcting wrongs, fixing the problem?
Striving to put right what once went wrong, hoping the next leap will be ... the leap home ... Oh wait. Wrong show. Though i would not at all be surprised to see Dean Stockwell walk out of a holographic door on the beach, puffing his cigar ... before realizing that he should just destroy all the fracking humans. Oh wait, that's another show ... =)
Just watched it again, even better the second time 'round. Notice that Eloise immediately recognizes Desmond before slipping into "Oh, so nice to finally meet you" bit -- she's got this quick look on her face of "WHAT THE F IS HE DOING HERE?!?!?" And i wonder now if Charles does know of the ATL at all ... he seems genuinely surprised when Des comes back and is all "yeah, we're all good Charles, let's do this thing" -- maybe he just knows of Desmond's ability to withstand severe EM, but has no idea what effect it has (or could have) on him? Widmore's obviously gotten at least some of his info from Eloise, but just how much? She doesn't seem to be one to tip her whole hand to anybody.
I was thinking too, maybe when Claire called out Aaron's name in the hospital that she had a flash herself? If some connection to true love gives a glimpse, then her love at that moment for her child might have given her a moment as well ... i really can't wait to see how Alternate Des interacts with the other 815ers and what will all that lead to?
Haha, love that first paragraph shpydar, two of my all time favourite shows. Having watched The Plan twice this week, I'm afraid what's his face is long forgotten. I really must watch Quantum Leap all over again, it's been ages.
And yes, I noticed Eloise's reaction, she was stunned for a brief moment before slipping back into character. I can't work out if she is trying to save the Universe, or if by keeping everything sweet in the ATL, she's just trying to avoid ever shooting her own son. Also, I think you are spot on with Claire. There was a brief moment of distress, some trouble with the baby, and she was pulled into an emotional state which allowed her to dip her toe into the actual timeline, and from it she plucks the name Aaron. The fact the lil sprog didn't respond until she spoke his name, could suggest it works both ways. What... the...
OK enough typing, we need more spam in here, as we celebrate Lost and it's impending climax.
Lets go back three years..... [youtube:LGauAyUWUas]
The sacrifice that Charles mentioned to Desmond, could he mean the young lad Charlie? Is Penny and Desmond's relationship somehow responsible for all this? Eloise sure seemed keen, then and now, to keep them apart.
edit: Nah, their relationship is not responsible, but it is somehow entwined. That conversation right there between Eloise and Desmond... help me out here... that's in the real timeline right? Just Desmond traveling backwards right? The ATL didn't exist yet, did it?
This is what I'm struggling with... did Jughead create the ATL, or did it just push our heroes consciousness into an already existing parallel 'verse? I need to watch Flashes Before Your Eyes and The Constant, AGAIN! D:
There's been debate on that -- whether Des in Flashes Before Your Eyes was actually in the ATL or just back in time ... i just happened to see FBYE a couple weeks back, as WABC (the Metro NY ABC station) airs 2 older episodes on late Saturday nights (12:30am-2:30am) and that's what they were up to. This past week was the first epsiode with Mikhail the Unstoppable Russian; i had completely forgotton what he said to Kate when she asked why they were here, what was going on -- he says (paraphrased) "The one who brought me here is a great man. (Kate interjects and insults Ben Linus) No. You can't understand. What i mean is, you could never understand the truth. Your name is not on the list." He also looks at Sayid when saying this -- how awesome!
But on FBYE, i tend to think it was just time travel, not ATL-ness -- that is assuming those are the only two realities we're dealing with! I too tend to think that the ATL didn't exist at that point. I'm seeing the ATL now more as a reality that didn't just skew from the original, but was entirely created -- both its past and its present -- from the Jughead incident. I presume that Eloise knew what she knew in FBYE thanks to Faraday's time travelling journal.
I'll talk time another time, but thanks for clearing that up spiderdude. I was thinking about the temporal knot today whilst sat in the sun, my mind is close to unraveling it all, watch this space...
So much awesome!!!1!!1!! I'm just going to gush it all out and you guys can elaborate or fill in gaps.
Iliana blown up Black Rock blown up whispers revealed ATL Desmond on a mission "The Boy" returns in mocking fashion team Light meets team Dark ( That look Smocke gave Jack....) Desmond chucked down a well by Locke/ Locke hit by car drove by Desmond
All around Holy Shizz!!! You can really feel the momentum picking up and it's getting crazy.
Wow, things really picked up in this one! The ATL scenes were great, so nice to finally see Hugo and Libby have their date. And Des in the ATL is awesome; i loved his "my work here is done" look after watching Libby and Hurley on the beach. I saw the Des-Locke thing coming from the moment they showed Des watching John in the weelchair, but still cool. Funny how Ben thinks Des is some pedo, while really it's like "no, i'm just here to run over the parapalegic so he can remember another reality". =)
Did not expect that at all from Illana. I figured she'd get it at some point, but not like that. Of course, it led to line of the night, from Ben Linus -- "The Island was done with her; makes you wonder what's going to happen when it's done with us." I liked his delivery of the line too -- not so much scared, but more genuinely curious and accepting.
The Boy and his ominous smirk ... who is this kid? Young Jacob? Young Smokie? Niether? Is there something you can share with the rest of us, Amazing Larry!?! =)
The Whispers explanation, while good and cool, did seem a little forced in. It makes sense, but the scene had the feeling of "ok, this is the scene where we explain what the Whispers are. Now, moving on ..."
Again, Lapidus rules -- i loved that he didn't even consider for a second leaving Hurley's group, just adamantly shook his head. You just know he's got a noble-death scene coming up soon ... for some reason i'm thinking Sayid will kill him. No reason to think it, no hints or anything, just a random thought.
Very interesting. I I am confused why Ilana blew up, because she was the canidates protecters. Also why Des was shoved down the well, and Des hit Locke (in the car). I also found it interesting that Desmond said that his kids name was Charlie.

I need to stop getting drunk to watch Lost. but it's tradition, waaah! We sat there after the episode had finished, in a Lost coma (as it has become known), unable to move or speak. Awesome! Boooom!
The Island > < Ilana
The scenes between Hurley and Libby... sniff were really good. I mean REALLY good. Not only was there emotion, but there was intrigue and anticipation too, as we waited for the ball to drop. The moment when Hugo 'felt it' was... well, it just another great Lost moment, one of many throughout this episode. I felt it too, this episode felt like we'd hit the top of the hill, and now it's downhill all the way.
This is the best book I have never read. It's beyond epic.
off to my other reality now (Wii), I'll see you here tomorrow for some deconstruction. ~ ~also... I need to soak all that up, woah!
didn't like the whispers reveal btw. I need to think how that fits into a science fiction story like this
hey guys, I really liked the episode. I thought it was great. I dont really want to go into too much detail but I do have one thing to say. The promos for the new episodes have to be the best of the series and on TV. That eerie Willy Wonka song was amazing as was the Bird on A Wire song by Leonard Cohen for Recon. Keep up the great work.
Good day. ... I said Good day We have to go back Kate! WE HAVE TO GO BAAAAAAAACK!!!!! Modern Warfare Reflex Edition 5332-3502-2691 My Backloggery
I actually had a discussion with my LOST buddy about that, and we have a theory; Desmond is trying to make everybody in the ATL meet up with each other so that they learn about the original time-line versions of themselves so that they are able to (in a sense) "jump" from the original time-line to the other in order to get off the Island. By hitting Locke in the ATL, Locke will meet the ATL version of Jack (since Locke would have to go the hospital), which might trigger them both being aware of the original time-line versions of themselves. While it's sorta far-fetched, it makes sense when you think about it.
Thanks given to Xkhaoz for that one avatar. Please contact me before using my custom avatar!
