If this is true, and the next episode really is Richards flashback, the one which may finally tell us how The Black Rock arrived, and how Ricardus became immortal... I WILL FREAK!!! That is the episode I've been waiting for since Leslie Arzt went BOOM at the end of S1. My excitement is tangible!
As for ad's we have them too I'm afraid, only the BBC channels don't, and because of this they cant afford/justify spending millions on shows like Lost. I can't do adverts, at all, it breaks up the atmosphere (of any programme/movie) and ruins it. I download them from EZTV (720p, not bad) and watch on the media box. Then later in the week I watch it in true HD when it's aired. Yum!
Good to hear you enjoyed BSG too shpydar. Lost and BSG are it for me, the cream. How are you enjoying Caprica btw? I'm really liking it. It's not Battlestar, but it's still awesome drama. Thick with religion and morality.
I've totally been waiitng for Richard's story since he first showed up, so i'm expecting next week might give me an embolism or a stroke or something. A nosebleed, at least.
Ahh, so it's only the BBC stations that work that way. I'm accustomed to commercials after years and years of watching far too much TV.
BSG was so awesome, words can't do it justice. It finally smacked the mainstream in the face with how excellent the science fiction genre can be when used right. I actually haven't watched Caprica except for the pilot/premiere episodes. Loved it, and the series looks excellent. I have to catch up eventually; SyFy (ugh, still hate that name change) will probably have a marathon at some point, as they always do in between their airings of GIANT MONSTER SNAKE THING movies.
You should enjoy Caprica, there are little nods to Battlestar throughout. Seeing how the colonies arrived at where they did, the very beginning, is fascinating as a BSG fan.
Anyway, it's very late, and I'm a typing on wii. D:
Well.... That was.... Erm... I don't know what to say.... Nothing moved forward... We had the first simple flashback in a long time...... But, there was nothing simple about it...
Enjoyed that so much! Even though it was 6 minutes longer, it flew past like a bullet train, or perhaps.... a ship on a tsunami. Just thinking about it is making me smile, Richard was outstanding throughout. I'm watching it again, now!!!!
Hey guys, it feels like forever since I posted so I thought I would say a few things. Man that episode was amazing. I think the main theme and plot points for this season are really coming together and I really like where its going. As this week's episode was very religion and faith based, perhaps next weeks will be very grounded in science, playing off the Man of Science, Man of Faith theme from previous seasons. And I dont now if you guys check IGN but they gave it a 9.8 out 10, highest of the season. They ranked it up there with The Constant, which is quite a feat. One quick question before I stop. I don't know any Spanish but the title of the episode, Ab Aeterno, could that mean For Ever, or For Eternity. Anyway great episode cant wait for next week's episode.
Good day. ... I said Good day We have to go back Kate! WE HAVE TO GO BAAAAAAAACK!!!!! Modern Warfare Reflex Edition 5332-3502-2691 My Backloggery
The phrase "Ab Aeterno" is Latin, literally translating to "from eternity", more commonly translated or interpreted as "since the beginning of time" or "everlasting". So yes, your presumed translation is pretty much right!
I would have to rate the episode as one of the best ever (even if, as Chu mentioned, not much really happened to progress the ongoing story) -- The Constant probably still has it beat. Carbonell had mentioned in an interview before it aired that the episode would be a bit different, more like a mini-film than an episode. Damn right. I love the religious/faith parallels, with everything from Jacob essentally baptizing Richard, to the whole concept that Jacob was talking about how he wants humans to be "good" and do the right thing on their own without him telling them to, and even the old concept of how faith cannot truly be faith if it is proven. So awesome, have to watch it again shortly.
And by the way, how awesome has Hurley been this season? He's stopped beign the background, tagalong guy and is really taking a more leadership role -- as he should. I loved how he just told off Jack ("It's not about you, Jack") and walked away. With how he's been portrayed on Island -- as well as in the ATL where he's Happy Mr. Helpful -- they really seem to be setting him up to be the chosen candidate (yeah, of course Jack is the obvious choice, so where would the fun be in that?)
I gotta theory... == JACOB IS THE DEVIL == Think about it. He makes everything seem so convincing. He grants people wishes. He leads people. I think that the MIB is against him for a reason. Do you think that Jacob stole the MIB's body?
And I really hope that they are not in hell. But it makes sence if they are: Sawyer is a con-man and killed at least 2 people. Kate killed her Uncle. Sayid was a torchurer. Jack almost comit suicide. and Hurley has bad luck...
The mystery surrounding Jacob and The Man in Black still hangs over us, unless we get their back story (which I'm praying we do) we probably won't find out what's truly going on until the finale. Which, btw, has an episode title now....
They're not in hell. MiB was clearly manipulating Richard, and after "scanning" him MiB knew that Richard was a religious man who believed he was going to be condemned to hell for his sin. MiB used this to his advantage. But the number one reason i'm 100% certain they're not in hell is because it was specifically suggested by one of the characters -- which as all good TV-mystery junkies know, is the first sign that the character is wrong. =)
And Jacob's not the Devil -- and to that point, neither is MiB. There are definitely parallels and allusions that would equate MiB, not Jacob, with the Devil based on his behavior (as depicted in Biblical and Christian and mythos), but i don't think it's going to be as simple as all that; it's not going to turn out to be a straight representation of any one particular religion or mythos. That being said, the relationship/interplay between Jacob and MiB is very reminicient of God and The Devil in the Book of Job (with those being brought to the Island playing the Job role).
Oh, and completely overshadowed in this episode was the Illana flashback that kicked things off ... i'm betting that one of the upcoming eps is going to have to be an Illana flashback episode, or at least one which shows how she met Jacob in the first place. I wonder too if she knew he was going to die, with his "the time you've been preparing for is here" speech, i got the impression that she had known that at some point in her future, she was to protect the candidates that would replace Jacob upon his eventual death.
The nagiing thing in my mind was the little kid that Saweyer and Flocke ran into. The little guy said something like, "You weren't supposed to kill him (Jacob). It's against the rules." I'm paraphrasing, but who is making the rules? What is the "game" going on between the Jacob and his "nemisis"?
Uhg, I want to see The End so bad but I don't want it to be over. Bittersweet.
Yeah, that kid. What's up with him? My first thought (like many people) was that the kid was (or just looked like) child-Jacob. Then i started to think that maybe the kid was (or looked like) child-MiB, which was why MiB freaked out so badly. Just kind of a random thought of mine ... at any rate, there's more to it than just Jacob and MiB ... i'm also thinking more and more that the two are brothers, which would fit with typical religious/mythological stories that have adversarial brothers (heh, like Jacob and Esau). And on that thought, it could tie into MiB's speech about having a crazy mother -- i got the impression from that speech that perhaps the MiB ended up killing his mother (it's the way he delivers the speech, the pauses and such), which perhaps led to he being imprisoned on the Island with Jacob to keep him there ... it would all seem to fit together in a way similar to the older of the Greek myths (those taking place before the rule of the Olympian pantheon) ....
Ouch. Brain hurts. My mind always goes off in several tangents while thinking about LOST! It's times like this that i relish that i took those Classical Mythology and Bibilcal/Hebraic Studies classes in college -- i can actually use my useless knowledge for something more than sounding deep to drunk girls. Of course, that's always good too. =)

When I saw that kid, I immediatelyitly said, "Aaron!" (Claires son), but obviously I was wrong. The reason I said this, is because he is a kid, and looks like Claire does a few seasons after. But this kid is most likely over 10 years, and there is no way that Aaron could be close to 10.
The end is near...
"Remember: when life rocks you, RAWK BACK!" ~Rawk Hawk FNS: Y B L R R R B >
The purgatory theory came up in season 1 and the writers immediately knocked it on the head, they were just messing with us when Richard said what he did (as usual). Vozzek69's recent recap though (which are always amazingly insightful) suggested that perhaps Jack might be dead, linking it back to the episode about Jack's tat's and the fact "He walks among us, but he is not one of us". Interesting, but still, I have no idea how a show which has always promised to be scientific could do such a thing. But hey, Hurley goes around talking to dead people...
Which leads me to my favourite part of the episode, that moment between Richard, Hurley, and Isabella. No scene in the history of Lost moved my like that. There, at the base of that massive tree (which was a little sprig in the scene where Richard 'buried' his wife, very nice) for a brief moment I am certain Richard could 'feel' her.
The analogy involving the bottle of wine and the cork has me fascinated, and it has been sloshing around my brain since watching. Will we get to see Smokey spill out into the world? I think not, as I'm guessing that would bring about the end of all things everywhere.... but how?
Also, I loved the Magnus Hanso reference. The Hanso's and their involvement in all this, I need to learn more about.
And finally... a random picture of Smokey fo yo....

This. Though, for me, i'd put it second behind that awesome "I'll have you" Ben-Illana scene. They've really stepped up their game this season, which is saying a lot after the greatness of last season.
And yeah, it's amazing to go back and watch first or second season episodes and think how far it's come. Back when we thought the Others were the Dharma Initiative, the light Locke saw coming from the hatch seemed so significant (and not just some cool Scotsman shining a light), and "WAAALLLLTTT!!!!!" was the go-to catchphrase.
